lurkan 0 Posted February 5, 2014 Im sorry but i HAVE to vent this before i explode!!!what up with the road signs not matching the maps??? i mean the road signs are well .. in a language we dont understand.. ok thats fine the Devs are apperently russian but then why in FUCKS name are the maps not in the same language!SO sick of spawning in a town that got a sign that is NOWHERE to be found on the online maps .. !!!sorrry .. had to get it out
FatBoyFish 14 Posted February 5, 2014 Id also like them to just do English place names... The Russian alphabet is hard, especially being chased by 6 zeds with nothing but a coconut and pencil sharpener
YassirX 54 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I cant speak Cyrillic and I'm still able to read the signs. That being said, there are maps with the Cyrillic names, for example:http://dayzdb.com/map This is how I read them:I track down the following letters: "a", "o", ,"e", "t" and "k".Those letters are similar to the roman alphabet. Combined with the length of the name, I can read all the signs. Once you have a basic understanding of the map, it will be pretty easy to read them.If you already know your vague location, there are not many possible options. That'd be ridiculous and completely against how I felt about Dayz when I first played it. You're supposed to be confused and lost, it's what makes it fun. Having English roadsigns but be horrible. I took the time to learn the roadsigns so you should too, also isn't there a Russian cheat sheet in the game? Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Id also like them to just do English place names... The Russian alphabet is hard, especially being chased by 6 zeds with nothing but a coconut and pencil sharpener You'll learn which places are which very quickly. They're actually quite obvious if you think about it, e.g. the one that looks like 3nektopobaek is Elektro, Bepe3nho is Berezino etc. etc. I do think there should be both English and Cyrillic maps in the game though. You can find parts of the map ingame ( 4 to form the full map ). And besides dont generalize please. Its a language YOU dont understand. ( but also for this "Problem" the game has a solution. Find the "russian cheat sheet" book and the Basics in kyrillic and you are set. But from the wording of your post, i suppose your appreacheation for reading books is low ) Put some effort into it OP. Not everyone in the world wants to speak/hear/read english all day... Edited February 5, 2014 by {Core}BlackLabel
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 5, 2014 Yes, why are you compared an in game road sign with a map that is not in game ?
Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted February 5, 2014 I understood better the names in chernarus than your upstart language spelling foulness for such a small deal. Anyway, IF you wish it so there is a book which you can find in game with Cyrillic cheat table for non speakers. Immerse yourself.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 5, 2014 To be fair the in-game map is also in English.
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 5, 2014 I have been referencing this map:http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#2.041.043 It seems to correspond to the in game names.
LaughingJack (DayZ) 767 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) The ingame map was clearly made for tourists. And if you prefer ingame solutions: You can find a book...the russian cheat sheet: ok thats fine the Devs are apperently russian A little more respect! Especially since learning your ways in DayZ is far from difficult, presuming basic reading comprehension.
jrussell4402 21 Posted February 5, 2014 I dont see why this is something to get worked up about. The names on the signs clearly match what is on dayzdb.com. You could even download the dayz central SA app for your phone if you don't like using alt+tab to see the online map
Gladius270 14 Posted February 5, 2014 The cyrillic stuff is really what makes this game. You are supposed to be confused at first. Eventually, you'll figure out how to read the signs well enough to know where you are.
crazykage 1063 Posted February 5, 2014 just remember that "Cobop" means you are in either Starry or novy sobor.
Hrki 94 Posted February 5, 2014 Purpose of this game is that "new" players are confused and lost, it's what makes this game unique and fun. Also after 1week you know map by your memory and there is also online map wich shows you exectly loots and pipes for water (some databases can show you also chance of finding items) and this help also is kinda ruind the "survival" instincts. You have ingame compas, map eaven road signs and with online help you can hendla entire map (also all loot you want to have) for less then 1 week active playing
libertine 351 Posted February 5, 2014 I somewhat doubt that Dean intended for their to be so few map pieces around.
pillock 850 Posted February 5, 2014 I found the Russian Cheat Sheet once, but I couldn't open it. For that matter, I've never been able to figure out how to open and read any book - I just assumed they were 'useless' items included for decoration or something. What am I doing wrong? libertine 351 Posted February 5, 2014 You ahve to pull them down to the hotbar and use them from there i think. For notes on paper, just right click and select read.
