Regenerate blood?

Recommended Posts

I read here:

http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Blood

...that we're supposed to regenerate blood after injury. Is this only in the mod or in SA as well?

And how do I read my energy and hydration values in SA? (as blood regeneration seems to be based on that).

For you to regenerate blood, you have to eat alot and drink as well, or if you want to be faster than that, since eating and drinking takes a bit of time, you can use the saline bags or a blood transfusion ( blood of the same type or else you die )

To use this last methods, you got to have 2 things, a partner that will help you since you can't use the saline bag or the blood transfusion on your own, and some one willing to donate you some blood of the same type as yours.

To know your blood type, you got to get a blood test kit, and use it, then you will know what kind of blood you have, if you want to use the eat and drink method, you have to eat alot and drink too.

Hope this helps ;)

Allright thx! I'm a loner so noone to draw blood from. Just seems to take forever for the blurred vision to go away. And I havent found a way to read my hunger lever, more than not being hungry.

I'll give it some more time.

Like i said, you got to eat alot and drink alot too, don't drink or eat wend you really have to, on that situation, you got to eat and drink more then normal, if you cant afford a blood transfusion or a saline bag.

Give time to time and eventually you will regenerate.

Btw, forgot to mention, don't eat rotten sh**t, that will not help at all, every type of food you can get, not ruined one, you take it and eat it, and don't drink water from the ponds, eventually you get sick too.

Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwNgTnj9hBE It explains it all quite well!

If you eat and drink as much as you can and keep you stomach "stuffed" you will reheal in a matter of minutes. I got shot a couple of nights ago. My vision went blurry but returned to normal in less than ten minutes. If you eat eat and drink as much as you can you will see a tag appear to the upper right of your figure in the items table "HEALTHY". Presumably beneath it will be the tag "STUFFED" because you have been eating alot. If you are in a healthy state you heal 3 times as fast whereas if you are farther down the ladder you will not heal at all.

So follow the advice in the video and  eat everything you find right away, don't take it with you and drink every chance you get until you the game tell you that you are full.

Good luck

The simplest way to think of it is eat and drink all you can when you can.  Food takes up inventory.  Better to store it in your body than to store it in your limited inventory.  Once you have eaten all you can and drink as much as you can you will slowly start to regain both health and blood.  If your sight is blurry... your health is low.  If your seeing the world in black and white, or close to it, you're low on blood.  Being well nourished fixes both, but slowly.

Great if you're a loner... not so great if you like playing fast in the cities.

If I may pitch in:

Health Regen in the standalone is an overall process, and you can't expect to be able to "heal yourself" once you're hurt. You need to take care of your character constantly so you can regenerate when you do take damage.

Before you take any damage, you need to have done all you can to keep your character healthy. This means eating and drinking all you can like a spoiled pig (until .33 goes stable, rampant starvation is a known issue) and then keep everything you can after you're stuffed.

Get yourself some Vitamins.

I don't have a fancy video or any graphs, but best I can tell eating vitamins lowers your threshold to reach "healthy/healing" status.

I always keep an eye out for vitamins and I take two just before my last gulp of water (for added realism, i don't think it matters when you take them.)

What actually happened to lead me to this conclusion is I was eating and drinking, depleted all my food and drink, never reached "stuffed" or "healthy" then consumed vitamins and suddenly I was "healthy."

Even after you eat and drink the required amounts it takes some time for your character to display a healthy status. Like the poster above stated you want to be right on the fine line of being stuffed until the healthy status appears. And as another poster mentioned you want to try to obtain this status BEFORE you take damage and as long as you bandage in a reasonable time you won't even notice any blood loss. If your character actually losses enough blood to start depleting your vision and your healthy, you will see healthy become healing. Which in turn means your character is regenerating blood. I make the healthy status my first objective now.

It is quite subtle.

I've found.

Just a slice of a recent life

Yesterday I was low on blood but Ok health wise.

Vision,  black and white but clear as clarity itself.

So I think to myself, what a wonderful world and figure I need keep myself well fed and drink as much as possible.

I had spent the day looting and had bruises a plenty from the ugly inhabitants of small towns.
Lunging Thunder Punches, Glitched Groin Grabs, Bastardly Shoulder Barges,  those kind of things.
But, I was finding enough food and making a pig of myself. Find a can, eat the whole can.
I had found two canteens, well filled at a well and I was then off to the next somewhere else with beans and hopefully a nice new weapon along the way.

I never saw no damn 'Healing'! text! or other gibba jabba but throughout the day my colour vision slowly returned, rough guess, no clue dint time it, three or four hours of game time.

This has been my experience as well.  For the past couple of days I've been keeping myself well fed and well hydrated.  I've seen at least twice where I have done from black and white to well colored... never seeing a "healing" or Healthy status.

I took to heart the advice of storing the food in YOU rather than in my pack. I eat a LOT and drink at every well I see until I can drink no more.  It's been working for me.

Eat until you get the message saying you are full or stuffed (by eating food, not from drinking water), along with drinking a little water after that.... Sometimes it takes a LOT of food with the system the way it is currently, but everytime I have done this I have gotten the "healing" and then "healthy" icon within 10 mins of doing so, even with blurry or gray vision.

This is all really good to know - thanks to you all! I've got a nasty case of grayscale-but-clear -vision and was vaguely worried because despite eating and drinking, I didn't see 'healthy'. I do have vitamins though so I'll start using them as well, and try to just keep gorging as best I can.

Yup same here, black and white but not blurry at all. Have been eating and drinking plenty for probably last 5-6 hours but still black and white.

Havent had any vitamins so will try to find some. Also tried to do a blood transfusion but coudlnt work out what inventory items i needed and in what order to use them, etc.

Will just keep eating like a pig hopefully thatll get it eventually.

Vitamins, fruits etc. I'm constantly eating and drinking. Been healthy from the gecko more or less and I've healed up quite fast even from bad injuries. Not sure if eating different foods help in the overall scheme (like fish, beans, fruits etc). I've been mixing it so that my food isn't purely beans :)

Sodas are quite crap when it comes to "food", but I drink them when I find them. Don't rely on them being your "food for the trip". Just think of them as snacks.

Hahaha this could well turn into a "healthy eating in DayZ" thread.

In order to lead a healthy lifestyle be sure to mix and match your intake. Avoid fizzy drinks and stick to fresh fruit and water when possible. And remember, if you see a zombie - save your ammunition and just go for a refreshing sprint instead!

Tried and tested, i SIT down next to a pond for nearly an hour drink and eat whenever the stuffed status is gone, your colour will slowly come back, very slow yeah but that's the only way to gain back blood if you're single player like me. Now my character is healthy status just from eating foods and drinking water whenever i find them :) good luck!

Here's some images displaying the healing and healthy statuses. I believe these may change with the next update though.

And like i stated previously you should be avoiding damage as much as possible until you reach healthy. If you are in an injured state when you become "healthy" it will say healing until you are healed, at which point it becomes healthy. My character is always healthy and ready to regenerate blood as soon as i take damage. On a side note it seems to me that once your healthy it takes much longer for you to actually become thirsty and hungry(meaning the status is displayed in your inventory).

There are two states were you regen blood one is slow and doesn't show the healing tag the other is high and does. Difference is time with healthy tag you heal most wounds in matter of minutes, other it takes 20-30 or more.

Hey thanks SupaFunk thats real helpful!

No problem. Love helping people figure this stuff out. I typically eat 2-3 cans of anything, fresh fruit in large quantities, and entire boxes of cereal and whole bags of rice. Rice and cereal deplete your water since your eating them raw so it's best to consume them near wells. It's important to find the balance of food and water and with no indicators this can take some practice. I always eat AND drink until I'm stuffed then drink just a bit more(2 sips).

Once your healthy you won't need to eat and drink till stuffed. Once you get it you'll see just how easy it actually is to get healthy.

I just drink as much as possible and eat whenever I find stuff. I always carry one can of beans just in case. My character is currently healthy and I took damage from a zed recently and was in a shoot out with a koser who either had very bad aim or I was able to take some good damage without hurting much.
