What do we really want as far as zombies?

YOUR Ideal zombie population at release.

  1. 1. What do YOU want the zombie presence to be at release?

    • Extreme amount of zombies everywhere. Always a fight.
      32
    • Extreme amount of zombies in once high-population areas and high loot areas. Heavy fighting in those areas.
      161
    • Moderate zombie population with more zombies in high loot areas. Never overly challenging.
      36
    • Zombies that populate like the mod, but increased numbers. Only a challenge when not geared.
      7
    • Zombies that populate like the mod. Only a challenge if unarmed, really a background aspect.

Just wondering what everyone thinks. Everything should be pretty self explanatory.

Not just lots of zombies but difficult, fast, agile zombies too.  I think that could help with the zombie count limitations. A moving mass that keeps on coming no matter what. A force to be feared and avoided unless lots of ammo is involved and badassness included.

Wherever there is something good to be found, zombies shall be there.

Wherever there are players peacefully waiting to be shot, zombies shall be there waiting for the boom of gunshots before hundreds amass on your murdering ass.

Being stealthy should be the smart option, fighting attracts more and more attention. Only in a large group could you hope to fight zombies and have the required equipment between you all to outrun them.

Players trying to carry everything alone should be over encumbered and run slower.

I would like to see the zombies be more like the ones in the mod. They were fast enough to be a threat and dangerous in numbers. The ones now are a shitshow, they're too slow, they start shambling like eejits they come close, ugh, not dangerous, make them faster I can literally jog past them with no worry, Ugh

I'd like to see what more zombies add to the game before making a judgement call...

I'm use to the "State of Decay" style zombie system, where heavily populated areas have more zombies, but there are also hordes, infestations and "special" zombies, so there's a nice variety of challenges to face.

To add Zeds in heavy numbers to once high populated areas would be so sensible, it has to have already been discussed between developers.

I think they should wander the land in packs of 2 - 8. When you're in Cherno as a bandit, you see a barely equipped person around looking for items to survive, but being nimble and not disturbing the the hoard that pulses through the streets. The bandit doesn't realize, when he raises his Mosin, takes in a breath, and pulls the trigger-

The streets turn to rage.

The struggling human scrambles to patch himself up quickly, as he watches the flood of Zeds swarm the building the bandit lay, He quickly searches for what he can find and leaves Cherno. And the gunfire has stopped-The bandit didn't make it.

I agree---Zombies should absolutely be high in number around areas with good loot. The bigger cities had higher population densities than all the smaller towns and villages. Cities should have awesome loot, but streets and outskirts pretty dense with zombies. Military installations and other sources of high quality loot should also be heavily infested!

I want that feeling you get when you're creeping around town, ducking and weaving, trying not to get spotted or make too much noise so not to alert the zombies!

As it is now.. You're only creeping around to avoid all the homicidle maniacs. I don't feel like the game world itself is out to devour us just yet.

Also, roaming hordes.

BAM! Suddenly: Zombies, when you least expect them.

i don´t think zombies are a threat, you can just run away easily, i think that zombie could be faster that you and there are more zombies on the world spawning.

Give me lots anyday of the week, but make them menacing.  KOS will slow down, if they think they can shoot a rifle and not attract Zeds.

I want lots, I mean Lots, Like rocket showed in the blog videos, crawlers, walkers and violent ones who just want to rip out a brain or two.

You shouldn't be able to melee a zed. They should be that dangerous, it's a huge risk to even attempt a melee attack.

City zeds shouldn't be alone, but in groups.

If you want the loot behind zeds, you should have no other option but to shoot them (due to increased danger levels) thus risk giving away your position to players near by.

It's far too easy at the moment. They will improve though, devs have said this.. how.. I'm unsure.

Gimmie the 28 Days later Zombies... Those are real nightmares!

Agree 100%

Personally I want to see a "Screamer" type of zombie. Nothing freaks me out more than a zombie running full sprint at me while screaming at the top of its lungs. Also would obviously attract other Zombies, "State of Decay" had something similar but nothing of that Caliber.

I think zombies should be easy to sneak around as you walk by, but any kind of noise should atract their attention and make them look in that direction.

Basically: Idle zombie -> 10meter view range Any sound louder than a person walking: -> turns around and can see you at up to 100 meters.

The zombies already scream, why not have it alarm other zombies into a search mode where they fast walk to the sound, when they make visual contact with a player they run full boar.

Basically... If they see you you're stuffed.

I would like massive hoards of zombies to be stupid raging like mosh pits.

While a single zombie could also be threatening as when it sees you it can alarm others, I was thinking when a zombie takes the time to search for a sound it has a somewhat increased level of intelligence... Able to fumble at doorknobs (for some time before they manage to open it), climb ladders and such.

But a hoard of zombies will be too hyped up and disgruntled to think of anything other than food and hit whatever is in the way, be it a door closed in their face or the bottom of a ladder.

My idea is that you are hiding in a house without realising there is a zombie nearby, perform a task and accedently alert him of your presence, instead of instantly knowing what/ where you are he will take time to investigate and eventually find the source. While he is searching you might be anxiously shitting yourself as he tries to open the door, maybe to make those things interesting they will have a chance of failure/ frustration/ maybe you could throw something out a window and get out before he returns.

From a standpoint of how the zombies work, I would expect a combination of raw increased numbers, special zombies/zombie moves, and increased zombie respawn in these areas.

I don't know about you guys, but that zombie leap move is frightening is hell if they do it from the right angle.

In addition to what I said above, I would like to see zombies be able to climb/jump in through windows and other places characters cannot traverse.

I say this because I noticed CoD Zombies originally only allowed zombies to path in the same places as players once they were in the play-area, and they could be avoided way too easily.

I'd like to see ROAMING zombies.  Right now, all they do is stand around inactive unless attracted to sound or you are right in front of them. Some kind of pathing they take through towns rather than just standing still.

God no.  You should be able to melee zombies, but yes they should be a threat.  Zombie 'lore' is full of having to take it hand to hand with zombies, no reason it shouldn't be possible.

Jeez, I find it hard enough to get loot when starting with just a bandage and roadflares - I see lots of vids of people strolling around Zeds as tho they ate nothing special, the bast+rds just screw me. So I voted middle button...

Massive amounts of zombies in high loot ares!! Some small hordes roaming the countryside and some small groups of zombies that never leave a certain radius arohnd very rural unknown towns ... We need zombies in mass , zombies that are nomads , and zombies that are home bodies that stay arohnd their place of infection ... These zombies should be a bit faster than they are now and should definitely include some crawlers runners and shambles ... Moderation is the key and life is a balancing act people come on !! Love ya ;}

Definitely need to be able to melee zombies , there's not enough ammo on earth left to kill all the infected there are now . Besides meleeing zombies like the guy above me said is apart of all zombie lore / stories .. I Believe that the zombies will be plenty of a threat when they have more of a physics system involved with fighting them. What I mean is now we hit the zombies they drop right away but in real life you hit a zombie with an axe and you have to rip the Axe out of his skull , so in other words if the fighting became more realistic with bone resistance and if our character had some sort of stamina system when fighting , then we wouldn't have to have these conversations , we just have to realize the zombies have to be hard , but not impossible , they have to be "almost impossible " in great numbers simply because of what I just said : in real life people get tired and skulls are harder to break , so if you were fighting more than three or four you would really have to consider if you were quick enough , strong enough , and had enough stamina to kill them all . Not saying there should be a stamina bar per se , but maybe some visible actions that our player does when he's tired like falls over or starts to pant hard and move slower like in real life .

zombies that make it too difficult to stay in high population and high loot areas for long. Cities, military bases and airfields should be "get in, get out" affairs. except for the highly geared of course.

and then of course a couple of herds of zombies wandering the landscape for randomness.

i can't imagine anything better than exchanging a few shots with another player, only to have 50 screaming zombies suddenly burst onto the scene ripping shit up. Would make for interesting tactics ie if smoke grenades still work you toss them over towards the opposite team to gather the zombies there.

ah i miss the mod, tossing smoke nades into barracks' with players inside.
