Zjasuu 337 Posted January 30, 2014 This has been really annoying in the game so far, I understand it if you shoot a Coca-Cola can with a gun that obviously it's useless after that, but when you get shot and your bandages and rags get ruined there is no way to stop bleeding. How come a rag gets ruined when a bullet hits it? BTW I don't mean to sound like an asshole but this needs to get some sort of a fix.
kichilron 8550 Posted January 30, 2014 Have you tried putting your stuff in containers at all? Like for example a firstaidkit as protection for your medical supplies? You should try it out, should help you with your problems.

How come a rag gets ruined when a bullet hits it? BTW I don't mean to sound like an asshole but this needs to get some sort of a fix.I have not played the new patch yet but I have had a similar feeling about it. And hearing you say it the way you did does sound like it could be bad. Of course stuff should be ruined when you're shot but is it really EVERYTHING? or just one or two things? Surely, everything can't be hit with each bullet.
ChiefMasterKush 321 Posted January 30, 2014 Have you tried putting your stuff in containers at all? Like for example a firstaidkit as protection for your medical supplies? You should try it out, should help you with your problems.Does a first aid kit protect stuff? Second, have you tried accessing a first aid kit. You'll bleed to death before it will appear on the ground for you to loot.
Munchermanjz 36 Posted January 30, 2014 Its to reduce a person's urge to kill on sight, less people might shoot you upon seeing you if the stuff on you is ruined. That and it makes a bit of sense, that if your backpack gets shot up then the stuff in it gets damaged too. This is why you don't keep all your bandages on the same part of the body, pants backpack etc
JSparks (DayZ) 109 Posted January 30, 2014 I agree, it feels at the moment as though everything is ruined when you get shot. I think it should be based more around where the bullet actually hit.
DeatHTaX 1217 Posted January 30, 2014 Does a first aid kit protect stuff? Second, have you tried accessing a first aid kit. You'll bleed to death before it will appear on the ground for you to loot. Can't you put the first aid kit in your hands? like you can the cases? (i only ask because when I think about it, I haven't tried it)
KerrSG1 113 Posted January 30, 2014 That sounds positively awful. Unless you get shot in the foot, your boots shouldn't degrade. Unless you get shot in the leg, your pants shouldn't degrade. Etc. One or two random item degrades would be one thing, but everything degrade? That's just bad programming.
Munchermanjz 36 Posted January 30, 2014 and to reply to first aid kit not appearing? Just put it in your hands, you can access it immediately that way
kichilron 8550 Posted January 30, 2014 Does a first aid kit protect stuff? Second, have you tried accessing a first aid kit. You'll bleed to death before it will appear on the ground for you to loot. Take Bandage out of First Aid Kit Drag Bandage to hotbar Put Bandage back in First Aid Kit Use Bandage from hotbar. Should still work and you can do that while it's still in the Kit.

I don't think even the protector case protects your items, plenty of times I have had items ruined inside of it when I get shot. Also don't drop the med bag, just put it in your hands and get what you need, just because items rarely come visible right at the same time you drop them. Munchermanjz 36 Posted January 30, 2014 Shots are just not detected 100% I'm guessing, but so long as you are still alive, only where you are hit is damaged, but one additional shot into a dead body, (on the ground or not) ruins everything. Be disciplined people, don't just spray with those M4s
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted January 30, 2014 I think the way item condition works is just not working as intended yet, it seems crazy sometimes.

BuddyRP 41 Posted January 30, 2014 because alpha that's why. a friend of mine was shot dead right next to me. 1 mosin round to the neck. youd only think everything below that wouldnt be damaged.. WRONG! every last bit of gear aside from his m4 went from pristine to ruined condition in a matter of one bullet. indeed it does need fixing, however the devs have their sights on much more pressing bugs / fixes id imagine

stolenbanjos 110 Posted January 30, 2014 I believe the plan is to localize it eventually so bullets only damage items in the area of impact.
hells high 676 Posted January 30, 2014 Right now that system is pretty barebones, random stuff gets damaged and I don't believe it'll stay that way.
weedmasta 784 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Does a first aid kit protect stuff? Second, have you tried accessing a first aid kit. You'll bleed to death before it will appear on the ground for you to loot. You know that you can use stuff inside the medikit without opening it right? Put it (bandage/rag) on the hotbar ;) Edited January 30, 2014 by weedmasta
weedmasta 784 Posted January 30, 2014 I believe the plan is to localize it eventually so bullets only damage items in the area of impact. That is a little hard to believe as items inside the backpack aren't actually physically in there in your backpack model.

hatesauce 99 Posted January 31, 2014 I agree this needs to be fixed. Should be random and it should be based on where the bullet hits and how much damage the bullet does to cause the item(s) to degrade. If everything is fucking ruined what is the point of looting people anymore or even having loot to begin with for that matter?

Felony Inhibitor 59 Posted January 31, 2014 On the subject of FA Kits... Just put the kit in your hands from your pack, it will let you access the items and use them without dropping it. Also, you can put bandages from the FA kit onto your hotbar and access them with the kit in your pack still.

If everything is fucking ruined what is the point of looting people anymore or even having loot to begin with for that matter? The system is intended so that you will not just spray someone and get away with their stuff. KoS is really common but I have been held up way more in SA than in the mod because then they can take what they want without having to worry about it being damaged. Its just a good way to make killing people have a considerable downside. But I do agree that it is unbalanced that one shot in a backpack ruins everything in that backpack. But then again, its an Alpha.
