Hardcore Vs Regular

Recommended Posts

can anyone tell me the difference between harcore and regular?

Also I have somehow managed to play both without noticing any real difference - only issue is I now have two different characters, one when i join hardcore and one when I join regular - is this normal and is there anyway of preventing this?

Hardcore is set at first person only and on a separate hive, thats the only difference at the minute.

Regular servers allow 3rd person and 1st person, Hardcore servers only allow 1st person. If you play on a 3rd person server then switch to a Hardcore server your character does not carry over to the hardcore server. If it's your first time playing on a Hardcore server you will start with a fresh spawn. If you then return to a Regular server you should, in theory, retain your previous character that you were playing the last time you were on a Regular server.

I enjoy both, but prefer Hardcore just because it makes it harder for bandits to camp, stalk, etc.

Yes, this is explained like 3 times in the posts above yours.

If you join a regular server you have one character.

If you join a hardcore server you have another character.

So essentially, you have 2 "character slots". I like this because on the regular server, I have a fully geared guy that I use to play with friends and on the hardcore server, I have another character that I use to play when I solo.

Hardcore is 1PP.

Regular is 3PP.

In 3PP you have visual advantages over HC. Many of which are glitchy and can be exploited.

Different hives for each so you will have different characters.

I started playing on hardcore and it's a nightmare after being used to 3rd person. I want to play on hardcore for a few reasons (more immersive for me, apparently the community is more mature...) but I'm not at all aware of my surroundings... what's your experience? Do you get used to it, or does it require regular scanning of the surroundings and slow, easy movement?

Once u go Hardcore, u will never go back ! 1st person view is more challenging!

I was planning on soley playing hardcore when I got DayZ but it seems like 1st person view in DayZ is even worse than in ArmA and it feels so clunky.

Personally I prefer hardcore because it puts everyone on an equal playing field.  The biggest advantage I think with using first person view is that its a fraction of a second faster to bring up your sights then with third person due to the lack of the added animation.  It feels faster to me anyway, it might not actually be.  I like that people can't 3rd person me.  The third person perspective helps sooooooo damn much.  Me and my buddy were killing KOS bandits in Electro just now with great success.  Its pretty satisfying killing the dicks and helping the bambi's.
