Jezza93 44 Posted January 30, 2014 So,I just shot a man. I have killed men, not many, before but...never like this. I stepped into the Eastern military building at the North East airfield, and upon ascending the stairwell I see a player there facing away from me, he had a helmet, gasmask and backpack and what looked like an axe and a mosin. And...I didn't have my mic plugged in so I couldn't talk to him. So I shot him in the head. But the bullet didn't hit his head. I'd missed. He turned around, looked right at me. I paused, he paused as I looked back into his scared eyes. And then I unloaded 5 more bullets into him. He didn't have a mosin, he didn't have any firearms. He shouldn't have died, and I feel guilty. I ran from the airfield, torn up with grief at my heinous crime. Man at NEAF this morning,if you read this. I am truly sorry. Regards, the bad military man.
TheUnknownDane 23 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Haha I remember the first time I shot someone in the mod.Suddenly there was this guy in front of me, and some people have been shooting after me ealier that night. So I rolled the dice, and believed that killing him with the Lee Enfield was the only thing to do. Better to be safe than sorry. But man.. When he dropped and he typed in global: "Why didn't you try to talk to me instead man", I got really sad, and was like - oh man... I could've made a "friend".. After that, I'm being friendly to everyone I see, but being cautious of my surroundings in the mean time. But it's horrible how the human nature is.. I've killed alot of players since that first guy, and every time it gets easier.. So anyway, enough rambling.. Just wanted to let you know, that I know how you feel. xD Edit: And this is just the reason DayZ is the game it is - Brilliant.. Standalone Alpha, Beta, Release or the Mod, doesn't matter. The emotions you can experience in this game, is like no other if you're not cold and cynical all the time. xD Cheers. :beans: Edited January 30, 2014 by TheUnknownDane
Whistler2k4 8 Posted January 30, 2014 Poor thing.. I would've emptied my FNX45 into his body. Then I'd loot what I needed. After that I'd wait around a bit, to see if others show up.

Jezza93 44 Posted January 30, 2014 What do you not understand Victus? Do you not understand why I shot him? I shot him because others shoot me. I'd like a world where people aren't afraid to approach each other, but I'm not the guy to make that first step.
komadose 190 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) haha. i think it's kinda funny how this game makes you feel bad about killing sometimes. maybe because we all know how much effort can be put to finding stuff, and you start feeling sorry that you're throwing it all away when you pull that trigger. then again, we all know it's bound to happen at some point when ever we start playing. no one lives forever :) it's just the spirit of DayZ. huf757 82 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) No we don't understand your guilt. I have found that generally not always but the vast majority of the time the only time people are friendly is when you have the drop on them or they have no weapons. You missed your first shot, had he a gun you would probably be dead. Should of looted his body and moved on to kill another. Jezza93 44 Posted January 30, 2014 Well huf it wasn't exactly as I described it, it was more I shot he ran towards me so I kept shooting. But I'm one for dramatisation. The only times I have encountered other players in the past few weeks is when they have done as I did (failed to do),and put a bullet in the back of my head. I generally ignore other players unless they are essentially in my way.

ispecter 55 Posted January 30, 2014 I shot everyone on sight to preserve my life and my allies. That guy would have done the same to you.
Uutgrunnen 96 Posted January 30, 2014 This day will be forever in your memory as the day you became a man. For all the forthcoming kills will be compared with this kill. Also quite a good thing that you looked him in the eyes before you ended his life. Don't feel guilty and just hope you can have the privilege of such a clean dead when your time has come. When given the chance, he would have killed you in cold blood. Survival of the fittest and you were the fittest, for now..
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted January 30, 2014 Shooting on sight in military areas comes with the territory. Anyone entering those places should expect to shoot or be shot. If it had happened somewhere else I would understand your bad conscience, but not there.

dallas 5195 Posted January 30, 2014 Military spawns are highly competitive areas, I'm not saying you were justified, but sometimes it's better to feel bad, than to be dead. I think you should congratulate yourself on being alive, but also that you're able to feel guilt and remorse, simply from playing a game. I think it's a testament to DayZ's advanced psychological gameplay, that you can actually be so nervous, you kill another player and that you can feel bad about it afterwards. As I see it, you have two paths to go from here, you can either shrug it off as "just a game" and become a cold cynical killer or you can accept it as part of the game and continue to balance the difficult road of trying to be a good guy, while also doing everything you can to survive and protect yourself from dangers and strangers.

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted January 30, 2014 You reminded me of my first legitimate murder, OP. It made me sad. I was escorting some friends through the apartment blocks near Cherno, we stopped by the supermarket on our way and I spotted a guy some distance away. I figured I would fire a warning shot just to scare him away because he was well out of direct communication range, but my single M4 shot was very "lucky" and hit him right in the centre mass. His only protection was a white shirt, he went down like a sack of potatoes. I am sorry white shirt guy. :(
PoebusApolloHC 24 Posted January 30, 2014 Saw the topic post and immediately thought: "Mama, just killed a man.Put a bullet throught his head.Pulled my trigger now he's dead."
Jezza93 44 Posted January 30, 2014 This has spawned a pretty nice discussion, similarly earlier I went back to NEAF,I'd been heading West but a friend wanted to swap my Mosin for his M4, and as I passed through I went into a Barracks and saw 2 guys in there, well armed with full military gear. I was tempted to just pistol whip them, they were in separate rooms but my conscience prevailed and I went the other way. Running like a little girl scared they would see me and shoot me in the back of the head ;) But now I have no reason to visit a military post again given my new M4 and vast supply of ammo. Time to play nice...as long as they have no gun.
o5pr3y (DayZ) 77 Posted January 30, 2014 Sigh... No. Just no. Its this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svFdT9XXAGQI loved CH too, but always preferred the RATM version. Even if it was their sellout album. Here's the best of both worlds:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyEOXqlzksU Now we are both happy :)
