Today's Pending Update.

Why isn't something like that priority? I'd imagine a strong stable server should be something that needs to make the priority list, not adding spray painting.

Because it's not the same people doing the backend code that are doing the spray cans.

They want to stop server hoping but havent done anything to stop combat logging which shouldnt be that hard just put a ten sec timer.

when you log out, your avatar stays in game for 30 seconds - defenseless against players that are pursuing you, or zombies that aggroed you.

The way i see it - as most people have the reading comprehension of rotten kiwi, they will combat log, get shot as they're still there for 30 seconds then whine on this forum that they logged in dead.

those tears will be the most delicious :)

I've never ever had a problem finding loot...

Scarcity doesn't justify server hopping, it justifies looking harder in places that people might not think to look.

It does not justify it.

It does however encourage it, whether you like it or not.

This idea of server hoppers is rather comical, besides gun spawn military areas, nobody server hops. There is plenty of places to find guns besides these areas. If there is no loot, it does not mean people are server hopping, people always assume this though, even people I have played with. Get off your Arse and go search the map, it is part of the game. Boo hoo if it takes you 2 hrs to find a gun. This is not COD. Sorry if this seems insensitive, but carrying away about server hopping when 95% of the time you have no real proof is crazy. At military bases, sure, but anywhere else...come on man.

Spending 2 hours to look for a gun is not enjoyable, maybe for someone who spends 14 hours a day at their computer, sure that works. But for adults with responsibilities having to spend 2 hours to even enjoy the game, because if you enjoy running in the woods for 2 hours not finding anything other then beans, wow.. you must find joy in anything you ever do. That doesn't mean you should have a gun in 5 minutes, but this CoD claiming logic is getting really dull.

Perhaps CoD logic was lazy, and yes, having kids and other responsibilities makes it a slower process to do anything let alone find a gun in DayZ,  :) .

But server hopping is primarily prevalent in military/major gun spawning areas. Almost every town in this map has houses that spawn guns, and all other military/non-military supplies. Which is why to have fun in this game, a person must appreciate the game, outside of the gun/pvp arena and just like to explore/find loot. Kind of like minecraft to be honest.

Maybe it is the wrong game for you... cause it wont really change that much.

Hopefully they incorporate easier loot in regular servers for ppl like yourself.

Also, my current regular server player and hardcore player took 3 days each to get geared, playing on and off. Not to say it should take this long for some people, but the game is what it is. Just try to enjoy the little things more.

Don't get me wrong, I do support this in every way. It needed to happen and server hoppers need to be dealt with. But shouldn't item re spawns be added before this gets implemented? The majority of people server hop because there's no loot re spawns. I personally never server hopped in the mod but in the standalone it's a different story. There's times where you have no choice.

Well, I wouldn't get too used to justifying your use of a game breaking exploit.

When they add the balanced in game loot economy, you can server hop to your heart's content you won't find anything extra.

Shit, if it were up to me entirely I'd ban server-hoppers permanently no refund.

Anyone who would manipulate the game for their enjoyment - at the expense of everyone else's - should be given a swift kick in the nuts and a job at a coal mine.

Yes, coal, a fuel-source as old and redundant as the assholes I mention above.

I feel like another function they need to remove is hiding bodies, or at least have it so you need to stay on the guy for a minute or so to hide him. That's so much loot going to waste. I for one never hide bodies, just means more of a challenge.

Your statement fails because you assume you need a gun to get enjoyment out of the game.

started up a character on a hardcore server the other day to have geared avatars on both to participate with my clan on whatever they choose to play.

in two sessions of play (maybe 2-3 hours):

i am healthy,

well fed,

have a canteen,

some brown and green clothes,

a fire axe,

a mosin with no ammo (yet)

i am slowly working my way northwest and i have not had to server hop once. The servers i join often restart 10-20 minutes after i join so loot is respawned at a regular rate.

i didn't feel the need to run along the coast and rub balls with the pvpers. i am enjoying the game and gathering my loot methodically and having a great time.

If i were playing dayz ONLY for the ball slapping on the coast, i would be whining too.

Well that's probably why you don't see the problem.

Try a fresh character on a 40-man server not restarted for multiple hours. Result may vary.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like server hopper :)

The amount of people who are like
"Bro, I find plenty of food and water"

Nourishment simulator 2013. Unfortunately doing nothing but looting food and water get old real quick. In the end all you need to do is find a bag of rice or two and you're pretty much set for a long time. Wells make it so having to loot water is borderline useless.

Not really, this is a survival game, if you come into a town that is empty and void of supplies, you need to move on to the next town to scrounge there.  The majority of people server hop because they're in a high traffic area with no other players or a high value loot area, it's already been looted, and they don't want to travel all the way to the next high value loot area, with the same results.  So they switch servers and see if the next one has been looted, or is populated yet.  The server timers will prevent most of this, but certainly not the people looking for targets server to server.  I doubt those blood-thirsty beasts will mind a 5 minute wait to keep their hide location and move to another populated server.

It's not only high value areas that have been looted. Even small towns towards the center of the map are looted. You have to go to the most random towns to find nothing but some food/water and that's about it.

New character - about an hour of play time...

  • No T-shirt - had to tear it into rags to stop the bleeding
  • a baseball bat (about the single most useless melee weapon in the game as it never seems to hit its target)
  • 2 cans of beans
  • yet another fracking bobble hat
  • a pair of cargo pants that, for some inexplicable reason, spawned in a barn in the middle of nowhere

I managed to find a can of soda in one town so I haven't expired from thirst yet but the two interior towns up north I visited yeilded bugger all else. I'm happy for all those of you who can find loot because you've time to play around server resets. As has been pointed out, some of us have other responsibilities an can't play for hours at a time. Lack of loot rapidly drains any fun out of the game when you're on a limited timetable.

Personally, I can't wait until military loot is rarer than rocking-horse sh*t and improvised weapons are in the game. Load up the areas around military bases with dozens of the deadliest forms of Zeds and sit back and listen to the complaints then :D

I don't really "want" server hopping but the current state of the game begs for people to do it. And sorry, but you're full of shit if you're going to say you play full 40man servers and don't feel there's a loot issue, especially since there was a noticeable loot nerf with the last patch. You are also full of shit if you say you have never server hopped for loot. I do agree that the combat logging needs to be fixed and unfortunately there probably isn't a current way to deal with both correctly. The lack of the ability for loot to respawn on it's own, and to have to schedule server resets is really pretty sad - even at this point in the game. It all comes down to a matter of priorities, and does someone really want to try to convince me that allowing you to pick up spray paint to paint your mosin (which bugs it out to only load one round...) is really a higher priority than something as basic as loot respawning in a loot driven game?

Also, there are zombies in this game?  Hardly noticed, this game is pretty much about gearing up and hunting/killing your fellow man just to laugh at them. The current state of the game makes it that way.

You don't need cans of drink... there are wells, swamps and rivers everywhere....fill up every time you see one.

don't keep food on you. eat it right away every time. your energy bar has a lot more room to store that energy than your backpack.

i get to play a few hours every other day in the evening after the rugrats are in bed, but i still experience server resets at least once a game session.

An imidiate and temporary solution would be to make server respawns a lot quicker, say every 2 hours instead of 4. It's also nice because it gives you a better notion of how far from someone you are.
