ItsSamBrown 5 Posted January 29, 2014 Instead of adding in side chat, I think it would be a good idea to use walkie talkies as a means of communication (they currently do nothing). The player would have to set it to a certain frequency (eg. 117) and whoever else has their walkie talkie set to 117 would be able to voice chat with the player, however, bandits will also be able to flick through the different channels, listening in, finding out where the two players intend to meet etc. This is just an idea so no hate please, but any feedback is welcome :)
meat pie 632 Posted January 29, 2014 I hope this is what they plane, they talked about how they plan on adding raidio stations so I hope they do what you are talking about.Have some beans.
rybo 171 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) They currently work yo.... Funny part. Your idea's are how they work in general...lulz Find one at a fire house and put your flashlight battery in it. Then right click for options such as Turn On and Change Channel. Then you use the ( , . ) to change from direct chat too the radio channel. Enjoy. Ours worked with a random noob we found for over 3 hours and over 150 meters. Oh, and now I need your Beans good Sir. Will also note if someone in your group leaves the server while on the same channel as you, you have a chance of breaking your radio. Don't worry all you need is a new battery. It may be a perfect battery but once it's replaced it will work again. Also as someone else said people can hear your radio chatter just like direct channel. So when a bandit is close make sure no one talks over the radio! And final note..If you see someone and you know where they are going such as the airfield and you know they are going to the bunkers put the radio outside next to the wall in the bush. You can then enjoy watching them sprint out guns up and screaming "don't shoot!" after fucking with them..Hours of fun. My buddy has this goal to get a bunch of radio's and plant them all over Elektro and then read story books like a PBS broadcasting station. I'm hoping to sneak one into a noobs backpack one day and leave it on after hand cuffing him. Then spend the next couple hours fucking with the guy as he trys to figure out where the hell is the dude talking in direct chat. planetpr0_ebda 0 Posted January 29, 2014 I think having the walkies/radio available for in range recon of a town or area being patrolled by bandit teams would be a good use. Scanning channels to get intel. Providing you are within range of the radios transmitting. Of course you would be at risk of a near by player hearing the sound from the radio you're listening to. Possibly add loot consisting of mic/headphones would be a sweet addition to this well crafted simulator.

And they work flawlessly. Been playing with my buddy for nearly 2 hours with Transmitters. We muted teamspeak for this, it was amazing. You find one, you put batteries in. You turn it on by right clicking on the frequency you like, your friend does the same with his Transmitter and voila. You can speak through radio by switching chat channels. Pressing ",". The amazing thing is that if you talk through the radio with an x person, you can be heard by anyone in direct chat radius, which is 100m if i'm not mistaken. Because you know, you are talking. If someone is tuned in in the same frequency as you and your buddy, in the accepted radius, he can hear you both talking. Serious stalking. You can also leave the transmitter anywhere. It will still broadcast. Luring becomes more fun. The radio works up to approx 900 meters. After that there is stuttering and signal loss. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted January 29, 2014 They were never going to add in sidechat, and this was the intent for Radios/walkies all along. They also plan to add in Internet Radio Stations, and there was talk about adding in headsets headphones microphones to combine with them, being able to turn on a radio, place it on the ground and either listen in (have it transmit) or broadcast on it. This may change but at one point Rocket wanted all this.
Korsbaek 1778 Posted January 29, 2014 They are working and are now called transmitters.

sdry 2 Posted January 29, 2014 Still looking for one proper use for walkie talkies. Why would I chat whit some random a hole? "come here so I can shoot you"? Use those whit your buddies instead of TS whatever and make shitload of noise?Listen internet radios? Plz don't waste your time whit walkies. At least this state of developement. Personally probably never will bother to waste inventory space for radios, headset and other crap.

I wish they could somehow ban any outside communication now that the walkies work so well. You have a horrible outlook on things. They work better than TP or Skype IMO.You have 6 friends all talking and you want to plan something with one of them, you two just switch channels for a min while you hash it out. When done switch back!I fully support this as the only way to talk to someone else long range. This game is all about realism and authenticity, and there is nothing real or authentic about TS or Skype.I know the majority will disagree with this idea, but id could give a shit, bring on the hate! It would add lot to this game, but afraid it's not technically possible. Anyhow bunch of noobs are crying already game is too hard =D
janol 65 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Yes, use these and don't use VOIP. That's the proper way. Overtly using third party communication is cheating, because you don't have to find, carry and maintain your communication devices. rybec 339 Posted January 30, 2014 Eventually when vehicles are added I'd like to be able to broadcast long range over FM frequencies. It'd range from endlessly talking about current events, to my stance on gun control to a looping of or .

erkkiqaz 4 Posted January 30, 2014 it is very much possible to ban teamspeak and all other external voip programs if dayz scans current processes. if you have ts open dayz could display an pop up message saying those programs arent allowed with dayz and that it has closed the programs. Hack programs are one thing but blocking a Legit program? It kinda enters that can of worms area, like banning all 'underage' players. I would say no but I'm no lawyer/legal expert. erkkiqaz 4 Posted January 30, 2014 they can put it in the TOS and on store page. a notifcation that external voip programs during the game are not allowedpersonally i see no problem. hacking programs well some of them are completely legit debugging software which is being abused by people
