First Impressions........

Recommended Posts

Well I've been playing Dayz on and off for the past few weeks.

Principle of the game I like.

Graphics of the game, for a Beta, are very good. Plus the bonus of a huge map.

Downsides??? well there are quite a few, and now there seem to be more after the update.

Zombies now run through walls, buildings, fences, anything.. So when you hear them "behind a building" they're suddenly on top of you.

I've got stuck in rooms before when none of the doors open. Door was opening when going in.. quit or get disconnected from a server, go back.. no doors open.

Had a random couple of zombies that I was watching from afar just teleport next to me..

Kit takes a while when dropped to pick up again (ie back pack.. drop, pick up a new one, wait about for the old to show up to retrieve items)

Serious lack of pristine food about in most places.. Tshirts, shorts, trainers. motor bike helmets everywhere.. but food? . good luck

Drinks aren't so hard as there are wells, but finding a bottle or canteen.. well I've found 2 canteens in 2 weeks.

Recently got knocked unconscious by a zombie after 1 punch, then "floated" 2 ft off the ground on my front into a building. Could bandage myself, eat, drink etc.. but not move or stand up.

No clear indication of what the yellow chain/yellow broken chain/red chain/red broken chain mean.

No server response for 1,2,3 etc.. seconds.. then you'll either loose your character, or jump back in time 20 minutes.

but the worst issue, which is the reason I will not play this game with any effort until it's a polished release.. is loosing characters.

I have lost count (at least 15 times) that I've had a character reset.

I could be playing for hours.. quit a server to have some food myself.. jump back on.. server is full.. choose another server and boom, new character. (i'm aware of the modes and public options etc)

Hours of time and effort wasted when I have to start over again.

if COD MW (1) could get this multiplayer saving stats/player details malarkey working back in 2007, why is it so hard now?

Why would I want to spend hours traipsing about to find weapons, clothes, food, water, whilst being stealthy to avoid zombies.... only to have to start over again repeatedly,
if the server looses connection, or I want to have a break from the game.

This game could be sooo good.. and I hope it does become what it could be.. but in the meantime.. it wont be in my steam game list under "recent"

He's right, on the page, steam made it very clear that the game is Alpha, and that in buying it, you are helping find problems, so as to make it better for future players. Every time DayZ loads, there is a message thanking you, and explaining what you are to do. The game is far from done, and every single person here, is not some random player, we are all part of the developmental process, although there are hundreds of us, we are all useful in a different way, testing playing, and making the game better, till the day when it is finished... The final product won't just be because Rocket has been working their ass off to bring us a great game, but because us of the Alpha community believed that the game could be great, and made it great...

If now you won't play till a polished release, it sounds as if you really weren't ready for an alpha.  This isn't even beta... spelled out right in the disclaimer when you get in... "Game breaking issues may occur".

Maybe wait till an update or two is posted.  Read through the fixes and determine if you'd like to give it another shot.  Improvements EVERY release.

Your Candy Crush Saga is waiting.   Come back later, we'll still be here.

wow... what's this?... first person I've seen to not get all WTFOMGJERKOFF with a less than stellar opinion of the alpha. It's perfectly understandable that it's not for everybody in it's current state... Sometimes ya just gotta check it out anyway. good on ya for staying respectful and positive. It certainly isn't the end of the world like those "other people" seem to think it is. Hopefully nobody lamb-bastes you for sharing. See ya down the road.

Schui, you have understand how lucky you are, most people who post, as wolf-mind said, crap about DayZ SA, will get a bunch of crying 12 f*** at them. Instead you got us civilized folk, the rare, yet the awesome, we are also the type who won't slaughter your face ingame.

Well I just respawned, and had a zombie woman about 10 yards ahead of me..

Had a bout of boxing with her.. me running around behind her throwing punches..

I counted over 100 punches.. she hit the deck twice and got back up.

I died from blood loss.

Now if 2 hits with a wood axe kills, 1 hit with a fire axe kills.. surely 100 punches is enough to kill?
As it was, I died before I could kill 1 zombie woman, with 100 punches..

They need to bring in some killer moves.. like getting the right angle from behind to break the neck or something...
pick up a rock nearby and smash the head in?

Looks like I'm gonna respawn yet again.. (that was my shortest life, about 4 minutes)

At least you won't be like me... I get to Balota, find my first handgun... BOOM! I hear no gunshot, But I drop like a stone. Last time I ever do a snatch & grab in Balota.

To those of you "reminding" this guy that DayZ is still in Alpha, I appreciate the fact that he is pronouncing these issues, even if others are too.

It is in Alpha, and it needs critique and feedback, Stop getting on people for "not realizing it is in alpha." It says everywhere that it is. How could they forget. To fix a broken issue it must be known about. Be constructive, not condescending.

Edit: In Alpha not Beta

Edit: In Alpha not Beta

I'm not sure that it's so much that they don't realize it is in alpha, it's that I'm not sure if they realize what alpha is... or what alpha is compared to beta.

Generally an alpha is not released to the public in any way shape or form.  It's released to internal testers, usually employees of the company.  I'm going to hazard a guess and say that the public that have decided to support and purchase this in the alpha form are the "internal testers" of sorts.

Also that even though you paid for the standalone, this isn't going to be in a release ready form for at least a year.  Complaining about broken things, or loot spawn rates, or anything that is OBVIOUSLY going to touched on in future releases is counter productive.  Stomping your feet and posting that you're not coming back until this is more playable is not only counter productive (because testers are needed) but it's indicative that they haven't really understood the whole "This is an alpha" statement.

So yes... I DO think that some folks need to be reminded that this is only an alpha. I DON'T think its necessarily condescending... but a simple perusal of the forums here, instead of clicking the post new thread button, would be more constructive on THEIR part to discern the current state of the release.

Just my humble opinion though... YMMV.

Uh...

Stupid question here: Are you talking about the mod, or the Standalone? I can't tell when people are talking about either one, they just say alpha.

Probably a stupid question.

There are two sections to the forums.  The DayZ and DayZ Mod, which is below this section in the forums.  The Mod isn't in alpha... the standalone is.

If you look at the full forum listing it will be a little more obvious to you.

Hope that helps.

If your going rocky with a zombie, aim for the head it's glitchy so lift your aim until your missing then lower it a little.  A few good hits to the head will knock them down, don't stop, get as many free hit's in as you can, again aiming for the head, if they fall on their front they will get back up, on their back and they are done. Add a little bit of circle strafing and taking on a Z bare knuckle becomes fairly easy.  Now I can usually take one on without getting hit.

WARNING: Fighting will attract other Z's if it turn's into a 3 or more fight GTFO if your unsure lure the Z away from town a bit.

I used to fight at least one Z hand to hand or with a basic weapon (not an axe) usually 3-4 every respawn under the reasoning that if there's Z's then there is loot,  Final tip, don't drop your shirt to make rags move it into your pants there's nothing fun about bleeding out while waiting for it to appear on the ground.
