MrPineappleJuice 5 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Hi ! and thank you for this epic game !A big horde of zombies wandering randomly in the map ?! Can be a good idea for players to cooperate with each other instead of killing on sight Edited January 28, 2014 by MrPineappleJuice
jock360x360 (DayZ) 26 Posted January 28, 2014 thought i heard that was being added,,,, wish granted.
gerbilschooler 229 Posted January 28, 2014 It has already been clearly established that the zombies are going to change drastically in the future, when.. that is not so clear. As far as base creation, Rocket has said that permanent tents AND backpacks are pretty damn close to being ready. So I'd imagine a month at most before we get some light base building. Gugolas 228 Posted January 28, 2014 First thing is an idea that the devs already have: we will see if this will be possible. Before that they have to finish zombies and to finish server architecture and optimisation for sure, in order to increase their numbers, so we're talking of several months (I guess).Second one, base building, this is already in the road map. We don't know what this will be, if there will be things from the mod or completely new ideas or hopefully both. This seems to be a priority for the dev team, I guess we'll see something soon (in terms of development).Last thing...search around the forums and read before suggesting, you might be writing things discussed multiple times :)
Korsbaek 1778 Posted January 28, 2014 It has been confirmed and suggested before.
The Mad Titan 29 Posted January 28, 2014 It has been suggested before. However, that's no reason to stop talking about it. It is a fantastic idea. PvE is what's going to save this game. PvE can help server hopping, loot hoarding, KOS, and much more. PvE will give people a reason to cooperate and balance PvP. There should big very large hordes near all the best places to loot. That would make loot more rewarding and valuable. There should be so many zombies that you need to cooperate to clear these areas.

The Mad Titan 29 Posted January 28, 2014 Do you really feel that PvE is what DayZ is or should be about? Not at all, and I wasn't implying that it should be. I'm saying that PvE can easily fix major problems with the game and make if more fun.

The Mad Titan 29 Posted January 29, 2014 Im not so sure that is such an easy solution...Examples: Server hoppers- log into an empty military building only to be swarmed by a huge horde of zombies when logging in. Players would have to log in away from these areas, think about tactics and approach with caution. It would take time and be risky to get gear. Cooperation would be required to clear these areas by design, if done properly. PvP Balance - Say you're a lone bambi, then if there is a group of Bandits near by it will be easier to notice because they will be alerting zombies and killing them creating a lot of noise. Zombies screaming and guns shots would make finding these groups easy. This allows you to use the distraction to attack the bandits or get away, creating a wonderful chaotic dayz moment. You see this in many games that mix PvE and PvP, it allows small strategic groups to make a huge difference instead of it being a numbers game. KOS - The best way to fix KOS is through giving the players a reason to cooperate. If its more beneficial for me to cooperate with you as opposed to killing you, then I'm more likely to cooperate. There needs to be so many zombies that the most efficient and effective way to get loot is by grouping, then you would see more grouping and less KOS. Also, if you're in a city sneaking around large hordes and someone decides to shoot at you, well then they better be ready to fight the horde. This would lower the frequency of KOS and higher the frequency of cooperation. Ofcourse, there is a lot of work to be done on the servers to allow more Zombies. There needs to be more work on the Zombie's AI and they need to be more difficult to kill and do more damage. That is the hard part. Placing the zombies appropriately isn't that hard.

To an extent of course nothing's a perfect fix for everything .

The Mad Titan 29 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) What happens when people get the gear they are after and are bored of killing zombies? The way I see it is that Zombies are an obstacle to get anything in the game. Prime loot spots are protected by Hordes of zombies. Building vehicles and bases then maintaining/protecting them should be an ongoing adventure(end game content). As well maintaining and replacing your gear. Survivors need food, water, bullets, weapon cleaning kits, meds, etc. on a regular basis. This would force you to go into high risk areas to obtain them. Currently, all there is to the game is getting gear and PvP. That will change when more features are added. Edited January 30, 2014 by The Mad Titan
