YeBittenDog 106 Posted January 28, 2014 I like this idea. It would not give anyone an unfair advantage and could add some cool role-playing and story elements when interacting with other players.

oLoki182o 3 Posted January 28, 2014 A soldier is a profession, does he come into the came in full combat gear? Or at the very least camouflage? Sounds like that would be OP to me.

RAGEnCHAOS 16 Posted January 29, 2014 A soldier is a profession, does he come into the came in full combat gear? Or at the very least camouflage? Sounds like that would be OP to me.No its just clothing to let you know what you did in the past and gives youa chance to role play if you like. Career Clothing is only visual. Also makes DayZ seem more realistic.
Leviath4n 1 Posted January 29, 2014 Not a bad idea. I think these could be nice optional clothing items in the Character tab in the menu, as long as they aren't very good camouflage and have the same number of inventory slots.
Old_Crow_Whiskey 119 Posted January 29, 2014 It would be great to see career specific clothing provide unique benefits with trade offs. For instance your bright white doctors coat can hold two first aid kits and nothing else. Your bright blue mechanic overalls gives you 8 slots that can only be filled with tools. The bright yellow firefighter's coat allows you to carry 3 fire axes and no gun. If they implement a mechanic like this it could really make for some exciting and variable player interactions.

fundan@gmx.de 82 Posted January 29, 2014 Maybe the Zeds - sorry the infected people could wear stuff like that and even drop loot related to their "career"?
merlointhesky 20 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) rather than random, could this be something that you earn through playing the game?like... unlockable extra clothing on the character editing screen. It has to be only something related to how a player look, not providing any type of bonus, imho. This way they could introduce seasonal clothing too, as achievement... like a santa hat... for killing a deer... on xmas? And a special DayZ "I was here on Day Z" t-shirt for all the alpha testers :P Edited January 29, 2014 by merlointhesky
Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Sterile idea in my opinion. Personal choice of clothing, whatever RP trade you want, must not be conditioned by some artificial mechanism. You have tons of raincoats and other garments to fill in your need for role play. Just do it and make a thread about it. As an example, myself on the HC hive, decided to go kind of a missionary, carrying bibles and other humanitarian books and fully bagged with helpful kits. I intend on be seen, that is the entire purpose of it, so I chose Yellow. Does Yellow makes an avatar what he is ? No, it is the player choice to do so. Not some embedded mechanic. Why I like the game ? Freedom of choice, freedom of movement, freedom of objectives to accomplish. Ultimate goal, to survive the longest while trying to interact with other survivors. No. Just visual. Like a soldier would spawn in military fatigues.

Ultimate goal, to survive the longest while trying to interact with other survivors.By added mechanics are you referencing different sets of clothing that spawnwith new char spawns? Theses are just clothing that would spawn as the clothes do now.Just made to look like a profession was involved before the fall of mankind.I fail to see how that is added mechanic's. Keeping in mindthat there are already clothing in the game so no new mechanic's. This is just another aspect of DayZ that makes it fun to play and more realistic. You can stick to your missionary carrying bibles if that is enough for you.Others have responded with positive feedback so I think I am not the only one."Why I like the game ? Freedom of choice, freedom of movement, freedom of objectives to accomplish. Ultimate goal, to survive the longest while trying to interact with other survivors." Freedom of choice? I am not asking people to do anything they don't want.If you spawned in a firefighters uni I am not asking you to run aroundand fight fires I am also not asking for theses clothes to be "Special" clothes.they are just like your bambi clothes. RAGEnCHAOS 16 Posted January 30, 2014 Nah man. Clothes should just be clothes. And why would a firefighter carry three axes? They are just clothes! Its not like I said spawning with police uniformyou get to keep your gun belt and pepper spray.Picture a uniformed police officer running aroundwith black pants black shirt badge maybe even the police beltwith no weapons or gear. Just the clothes. Not special clothing.Nothing that would help you... Just to give you an idea this toonhad a life before the world ended. How about that firefighterrunning around in bright yellow pants with red suspenders andwhite t-shirt? Once again they only special meaning to them wouldbe role-playing to those of us that wish to role play. you can just dump themafter you find a gillie suit :)

Would like to spawn in a business suit etc Edited January 30, 2014 by Roshi

Maybe after release some moddercould make wally world location where if you Played during Christmas you can find a Santa hat. Never played Saints Row, so no :) But I played many other games. Introducing something like you are suggesting would mean introducing classes, which has been a "no no" on other topics, even if you say they are just clothes. As soon as clothes give a benefit and you can choose them from character creation like you suggest, they become "class clothes". Unlockable clothes to personalize your character on login instead wouldn't provide any benefit, just increased personalisation when you are reborn. But I hope that once the developers get to that aspect of the game, they will add more than just clothes selection. Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 30, 2014 This does not sound bad. Let me elaborate: How: You can incorporate this into character creation / selection What: You'd be limited to certain basic profession clothing. Let's take a soldier as good example: No rare military gear you'd find. Camo pants or an army (CDF / Russian / etc) shirt, perhaps simple boots. That's it. You still have to gear up normally, but your starter gear basically looks different without any benefits to keep it fair. Simple, but good enough to customize characters without real gameplay benefits. What do you think about this?
