Guest Posted January 26, 2014 So are there any future plans to polish the "jump" command in this game? It's 2014, and this inconsistency with the jump/step over option is getting kind of silly. Is there a hidden mechanic to only have one option (either just jump or just step over) enabled at all times? Am I missing something? Thoughts?
Odysseus (DayZ) 43 Posted January 26, 2014 Isn't that the "v" key?
Guest Posted January 26, 2014 Official, default "v" key assignment is "Step over". It rarely works as literal jump tho, especially in times when you would really need it - so this brings us to a situation where he wants to jump at high speed over and obstacle, praying that the command won't recognise it as "step over", and it's exactly what it happens - character stops during running animation, and then you're stuck with a long ass step over animation for 3 seconds. It's impotent.
PoebusApolloHC 24 Posted January 26, 2014 When the dev team is gets to the point of polishing that animation, using the vault/step over key bind will hopefully produce the correct animation. Right now the difference between vaulting over something or stepping over it lies in what item is in your hands, what stance you're holding said item(down or at the ready), and if you're walking, jogging, or sprinting. As I said, once the dev team gets around to polishing animations, vaulting will become much smoother and hopefully won't bug out and make you step over.
Beck (DayZ) 1768 Posted January 26, 2014 Obviously you aren't familiar with the Real Virtuality game engine, and how broken it is when it comes to jumping animations.

No hidden mechanic. It depends on speed and distance of the object.
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 26, 2014 You want to jump? Run and press V as you run at any speed. In the new version they fixed it, so you don't stop when sprinting. If you walk or stand still, you might just "step over". Anything faster results in vaulting.
ImageCtrl 719 Posted January 26, 2014 I`m the only one who like such things? I'm missing the doors and broken legs. Was fun watching the noobs crying for some morphine.

Was fun watching the noobs crying for some morphine. lol :D The main reason for not having "proper" jumping is that they don't want everybody to bunny hop like in other shooters.
Element47 2480 Posted January 26, 2014 what are you talking about, not being able to jump over a 30cm gap or climb a 40cm ledge is the pinnacle of realism!
belphegor_goatzombie 100 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I have found something that works for me, if i am 3-4 meters from fence and double tap V it jumps fine but closer then that it will do "step over" thingy. Or you could just run at the fence and press V once right before it, as you run. E: Okay, I never tested holding it, but it's probably as reliable as it gets. Or did you mean exactly that? ImageCtrl 719 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) Has nothing to do with "holding" or "double V".One click... V. Edited January 26, 2014 by NoCheats
Alogos 24 Posted January 26, 2014 i thought the "V" key was the dance button. Additionally, I thought my white guy just didn't know how to do it right.
Guest Posted January 26, 2014 Well, thanks for the input, guys. I've been playing this game for a month, and obviously i tried many different approaches to jumping, since it frustrated me from the start. I tried holding "v", double pressing it, fast tapping it, using it at fists-up sprint, fists-down, normal running, holding different weapons and items, tried different distances from objects that i wanted to jump/step over etc...., and the bottom line is, that there is no sure way to work all the time. As one guy sarcastically said, it's the "pinnacle of realism", and it's my humble opinion that the option needs attention in the future. Ofcourse I realise there are more pressing concerns to deal with before that.
darthbane67 92 Posted January 26, 2014 Try running while pressing V and do it before you get to what you want to jump over and it should work.
Kaboom! 0 Posted January 26, 2014 If you have your fists up while running (sprinting), you cannot jump but will instead step over obstacles.
