not sure if this is possible or even a real thing :P

 

Add a low level gamma grain effect to the game, so it a little like horror movie effects (so little you hardly know its there). and maybe it will get amplified when gamma is turned up, making the image just to noisy

Trust me gamma is no more near as effective with out the full moon or the moon at all.

 

Change the cycle to Winter, Remove the moon, add some storms. and believe me even gamma wont help enough.

 

In fairness though as said before when this has been done and the server is set up this way trust me the nights empty and people dont play on the server.

 

I think during this phase on the game its better to have full moon nights, lot more things to be working on.

I only play with gamma turned up to hunt for gear easier to avoid the KOS nuts. I was using the flashlight as intended for awhile but ppl were spotting me even in pitch black and on the ground hiding so i just got tired of giving myself away. I believe if the night setting was set a little lighter ppl would enjoy the game more despite the ppl that want hard core shit like this. But seriously i think shorter night cycles might want to be considered its clear enough a large majority of players prefer daylight over night.

Actually gamma and brightness is not that important.

 

Make sure you have: clouds enabled, hdr set to low (not very low) and shadows off, because those settings make huge difference when its night.

It doesn't always work. AFAIK it only works if there's moonlight

There are several games out there which can force the darkness no matter what you do with the settings, dark souls for instance, so im sure they will figure it out cause if they dont no night play for the most.

They need to fix it because the night mechanic is incredibly scary and really fun to play in. Once they fix the zombies to work right, then it could make for a great mechanic.... unless they fix gamma exploiting.

There is nothing worse than currently being picked off with complete precision from 800 meters in a field by someone who sees you clear as day while you can barely make out your own hands.

I don't think it's too dark. I think the flashlight needs go give off a much wider cone where the edge doesn't go from light to pitch blackness.

Also, the light beams need to be fixed so they aren't going though walls, but that seems like just a bug fix that will be handled in time.

Either way, I doubt fixing the issue with the night is the highest priority. With this being an alpha with a myriad of issues, I have faith in Rocket that they know their priorities.

Lots of anger here. Nobody wants to accept the notion that nighttime play is unpolished currently so players make due with what they have? They gave us gamma and brightness sliders for what exactly?

I find it depends on the alpha's mood: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
