Noticed Something Slightly Off...

Recommended Posts

That doesn't help us people that want our shots to go where the cross-hair is.

You don't have a crosshair.  You have a reference point, used primarily for the picking up items and orientating yourself- not so you can go ham in third person.

I suspect it's working as intended.

theoretically, there should be a ray trace from you 3rd person camera to reticle. If the ray collides with an object that is "targetable" like a player or a door or a hat, the players model, ie your character, should adjust his aim at that target. So when you shifted to 1st person it is exactly in the same collision location that you placed the reticle before. This should happen and hasn't been implemented. You should expect that precision. I don't know why anyone here accepts anything less.

Ok. I'll give you that.1z4hi0j.jpg

I can't believe I found some thing that illustrates this. Some master MS Paint skills too.   :P

I think it can be a good trade off; Some what Less accurate aiming, for near omnipotent situational awareness. OK... Maybe it needs a little more work...

In the picture above, the lines are static. The intersection point never changes and that is the problem. They should. Depending on your targets distance the ray will travel farther and create a different intersection point and the character should adjust to aim at that new intersection. If they implement it that way, you will be accurate in both 1st and 3rd person.

You just figured this out? It has been like this since the original OFP if I am not mistaken.

I haven't been playing for that long.

^This.

In the rv engine 3PP was never meant or designed to be used in battle. You are trying to fix something that works as intended.

I guess this is why so many people were whining that they couldn't hit people 20 feet away. Learn how to use the sights ffs

The only thing that should bother you with gun accuracy is, if the bullet does not fly where you aim with iron sights.

That "crosshair" thing should be probably removed totally since if you hipfire, you should guess where you aim and not use imaginary dot.

Honestly, as a game programmer, it's not very good practice to give a player base a feature to use and then tell them they can't use it or they are using it wrong. If your game isn't clear how to use the feature , you should not include it, or your instructions for the feature's use must be clear. Dayz has no tutorial right now and I don't know if it ever will, but assuming everyone is going to know how to play a shooter isn't smart game design practice.

As an alpha stage game, feedback is also very important from players and when a large portion of your base audience is using a specific feature, and wants it improved, it would be wise to listen and make those features very user friendly. If you think a few threads on the subjects are annoying now, wait until 10x more players are in game and have spent twice as much for Dayz.

Hi.

I agree whole heartedly. 3rd person perspective should not have been included in DayZ. It was no more than a crutch included in the engine to help rookies learn how to stay alive in OpF, Soon as you were skilled enough to crank up the difficulty 3PP and silly UT style aiming reticules were disabled. I guess it was also useful for checking out their characters ass, if that's what turns them on. ^_^

I realize more casual gamers will want the game as dumbed down as possible, for example today some people are calling for the zeds to get nerfed, lol, but really these overly casual types are basically ruining the game. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's too hard for people to use a weapons sights like they would irl.

Regards.

PS - I'm probably coming across as some sort of elitist douchebag, but really I'm not, I just lost all interest in the hyper-frag-snipe some guy 400 meters away while your running/bunny hopping/jumping off some 20 foot high roof arcade shooters 12 years ago.

People need to fucking get over the 3pp and any assumptions about Dean's opinion.

Third person has been unreliable since ARMA. You aren't SUPPOSED to engage in third person.

This. You're supposed to fire using the actual sites. The dot is really to help you find your focus to pick up items, &c.

I wish they'd dump third person, to be honest.

This picture is wrong, because [a] the shot would be HIGHER than the crosshair and the shot comes from your barrel, not your camera.

It is more like this, the gun is below your camera and hits way too low at close range. At longer ranges it appears to hit much closer to the dot. Then it drops down again as the bullet falls.

Working as intended.
