sess130 50 Posted January 25, 2014 They seem to have made it somehow fit neatly between the Mosin and the M4.Thats what I was hoping. A semi-auto gun should be more accurate than ANY full-auto, bar none.
spartanxapathy 203 Posted January 25, 2014 I did notice in the patch notes for the newest patch that it said "Updated description of SKS" so it should be pretty soon :)

Zjasuu 337 Posted January 26, 2014 Anyone who played BF3 knows the SKS is OP xD Can't wait to get one when they put it in Please don't compare weapons from BF with Dayz weapons. And I can't wait either :3 I hate the military grade weaponry in Dayz, and it's great to see how they add weapons that are more civilian like. I want to see an AK-47 still, though I'm almost 100% sure they'll add it in some point.
Demoth 366 Posted January 26, 2014 Just did a little research, because I am pumped for this gun to be in-game. The m4 is more accurate than the sks and has better range due to the 5.56mm round. However, the sks has significantly more stopping power and piercing ability (7.62x39mm). I am worried about how this will play out in-game, though. Mostly because the m4 is inaccurate as hell in dayz and if they make the sks less accurate it will barely be usable. The only way an M4 would be as inaccurate as it is in game was if it was broken, you were coming off heroin and you'd not only never shot a gun before, but had stick like arms that could barely lift it. FishGuts4Lunch 66 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I once bench fired an sks when visiting a buddy in the USA. At 200 yards the grouping was terrible! Edited January 26, 2014 by FishGuts4Lunch

Odysseus (DayZ) 43 Posted January 26, 2014 I once bench fired an sks when visiting a buddy in the USA. At 200 yards the grouping was terrible! For all the hype it gets, the SKS usually disappoints in real life. I have had a few. For DayZ purposes, it should be "good" condition but never "pristine" and should probably never degrade beyond that. But the M4 isn't as fragile as the tired old myth goes, either (originated with the first batch of M16's in Vietnam, I guess -- over fifty years ago?). sanguinius51 13 Posted January 26, 2014 It'll probably be as accurate as an M4 or more ingame - They've done a fine job of emulating weapons so far. It'll probably be a favourite weapon of choice, likely because of high fire rate (compared to Mosin) high stopping power (compared to M4), fast reload time using stripper clips (as compared to the Mosin.) I can see it being the ultimate medium range rifle, yeah. Especially if in the future we can duct-tape flashlights, and also clips to the stock of the gun. I am very excited for this SKS, indeed... spam5this@yahoo.de 2 Posted January 26, 2014 A pristine M4 with pristine parts is pretty accurate in-game... Still worlds apart from the Dayz mod m4´s accuracy. Random dispersion is bad game design, because, well, it´s random.
GrappleX 354 Posted January 27, 2014 AK-47s are accurate... A decent AK-47 will print a 4-5 inch group at 100 yards. Not exactly what I'd call accurate, but it'll do the job in most cases.

Punkrawks 136 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) If you've ever shot an SKS and an AR-15 side by side in real life (I have) you'd know that the SKS is by no means accurate beyone 150-200m. Scopes? Forget it. The only place you can mount them is on the rear receiver which is held in by a latch and pins. Every time you shoot, it goes off zero because something held by latches will shake and wiggle with every shot.People play too much CoD or Battlefield and instantly think the SKS is on par with sniper rifles. It's not. It fires the same round as an AK47, but is less reliable. It has more stopping power than an M4, but that is the round not the rifle. If I had to rank them in game I'd go:M4 > SKS > Mosin > ShotgunI rank them this way because stopping power means nothing if you can't hit, and unless you're 5 feet away from your target chances are you'll miss. The ability to put many rounds down range is more important than single powerful rounds, which is why the US adopted the 5.56 over the 30-06 from generations past.SKS will be fun, but it is way over-hyped. commanderbash 102 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) to the guy not getting what a MOA is. a minute of angle is a dispersion over a distance roughly equal to 1 inch at 100 yards, the guy saying it has a 4 MOA spread at 300 yards means IRL it will have a 12 inch spread at that distance; the rough cross section of a human torso making its effective range not much further then that. that being said I hope its a little more accurate then that, somewhere between the mosin and the m4, and I hope if uses the same round as the mosin just to keep ammo types down(even though it doesn't IRL). that being said, they could remodel it to the SVT-40 as it shares the same ammo type as the mosin and was a largely manufactured soviet rifle(+1 Mill), still made and found today actually. hells high 676 Posted January 27, 2014 I won't be happy unless it has a chance of discharging when you are moving about or of slamfiring. ^^ Free floating firing pins are a bitch, could turn your semi auto rifle into a full auto even if the safety is on, lol. PhillyT 554 Posted January 27, 2014 It will be a fun weapon for what it is. It has no characteristics that make it an improvement over the AK47 other than being semi-automatic and so better for mid range fire accuracy. Still, a nice weapon to fit between the M4 and the mosin. Where will it spawn though? Not really military, so maybe residential.

commanderbash 102 Posted January 27, 2014 I don't know what you two are whining about. I was explaining MOA to someone then suggesting things to keep the game simple, it is just a game after all. I want that stopgap gun between the m4 and mosin just as much as anyone else, I just think the svt-40 would be a better fit, runs on the same ammo as the mosin, plus like buddy said, the sks wasn't built for a scope, the svt-40 was
GrappleX 354 Posted January 28, 2014 The SVT-40 would be a poor stopgap gun. It is a large battle rifle, and would function similarly to a mosin. The SKS is a smallish carbine and fires an intermediate round, a perfect stopgap gun.

commanderbash 102 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) well it would obviously cycle suppressed with subsonic ammo, and its heavier subsonic ammo carries about the same punch as the mid level subsonic .223, but once you get into super sonic its a whole different ball game. wouldn't want to shoot players with it, even heavy enough clothing can stop a .22, but it'd be great for taking out zombies iraqiveteren8888 did a test to show a .22 could be lethal out to 300 yards.. but their definition of potentially lethal was having the ability to penetrate the body and the amount of hold over they needed at 300 yards was ridicules which is roughly the distance across the NWAP airstrip.
