Blunt objects don't do much and the melee combat is so fickle at the moment it's not worth the risk trying to beat them down with a blunt object. Axe or GTFO. Punch in the head drops them to the floor and gives plenty of time to run away and get out of sight. Also, misleading video title much? You can also basically crouch up to them on slow if they're looking the other way and "stealth kill" them. Right now they're too easy, but it'll come I'm sure.
