I Conduct Social Experiements on DayZ Players.

Recommended Posts

Hello DayZ fans!

In this video I experiment with the in-game DayZ community. I rate the social interactions based on the experience: Friendly, Very Friendly, Unfriendly & Very Unfriendly.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 - Low Gear

Part 4 - High Gear

Part 5 - Obnoxious Twat

Part 6 - Are Hardcore Servers Friendlier

Part 7 - Conclusion + Are Hardcore Servers Friendlier

Any feedback is very welcome! :)

Interesting that it turned out a positive. And the friendly encounters really contrast those douchebag encounters where they just shoot you for no reason.

How do you distinguish between "unfriendly" and "very unfriendly", though? They seem to be both just KOS-behaviour according to the examples in your video.

Nice video! I liked it. Well, I agree with BadAsh. Unfriendly and very unfriendly - how do you choose which one is only unfriendly and which one is very unfriendly?

To answer you both: I categorize unfriendly as just killing me, and very unfriendly as using deceptive tactics/torture to kill me.

As for friendly and very friendly: Friendly is interacting with me but not killing me, and very friendly is aiding me.

On the 2nd interaction, (the person who shot both of us with a magnum) the shooter pretended to be friendly at the start by communicating in chat with us.

I see. That makes sense, Thanks for the explanation, and keep up the interesting work.

The encounter with the guy in the firestation with the axe and raincoat was heartwarming. I was sure he was going to axe you, but instead he offered you some of his stuff, and he really didn't look like he had much to spare. Goes a long way in the positive score regarding faith in humankind.

Hold the "safety distance" (not for you, for the others) and maybe the count would be more positive.

Noted and thanks for the feedback. On a few occasions I did get a bit up close, like the ladder interaction.

i think this is very interesting.

a few questions:

don't you think running around in your underwear and behaving like you had brain trauma encourages a specific response?

what if you were geared?

i'm definitely not a shooter of new spawns, but if i saw a guy in his boxer-briefs run up to me and stand there REFUSING AID, i would hear Admiral Ackbar in my head saying "Its A TRAP!"

but interesting none-the-less

I did this naked to prevent the "I want his stuff response". In my next video I'll include some gear, but probably not full military. It would be interesting to see if the results vary. I'll post the 2nd video here and bump it when it's ready.

Interesting approach at taking a census of sorts.  I look forward to the next chapter.

Try to use different accent, you'll see the difference (some people kill other players just because they dont like their accents, it happened to me 4 times) , and dont give 2 points to people that just showed u the way the equipment was, 2 points should be rewarded when someone saved you from something.

but anyway keep up the good work, want to see more of them vids coming ! keep me updated (Send me pm when new ep comes out)

Peace!

This was very cool.

There are so many variables that determine whether or not you are going to be received with open arms or not.

Then there is that group that doesn't give two shits about anyone or anything.

Continue to make these vids, they are fun and interesting.

I feel like someone offering a naked player a knife doesn't really qualify +2 friendly, and a player punching you looks bad, but that doesn't seem to be a -2 unfriendly because he didn't have anything.

Firstly, I am absolutely useless at pretending I have a foreign accent lol. Secondly, shooting someone for their accent is just lame.

Very Friendly (+2) is awarded to players that sacrifice their time to help me. Even if it's a simple, "do you need help?".

I feel like someone offering a naked player a knife doesn't really qualify +2 friendly, and a player punching you looks bad, but that doesn't seem to be a -2 unfriendly because he didn't have anything.

Giving me a weapon, something I could use to attack him, when he had so little; was in my opinion the most well deserved +2 of those 15 interactions.

I just looked over the video again and I didn't give anyone a -2 for punching me. Are you sure?

Part 2 released. I need your help with one of the interactions in part 2.

I'll take posts here as votes to determine if he was friendly or unfriendly.

regarding the guy on the second floor who took a shot at you, but didn't pursue you when you made your intentions clear, i'd say +1

I think you just scared him at first and he shot out of reflex.

i still think that this survey should be entitled, "Is Dayz new-spawn friendly?"

i am sure, had you been armed, most of the friendly encounters would have ended with you dead and not knowing where the shot came from.

We will find out soon enough if that is the case. I'm gathering the video clips for low, medium and high value gear interactions, should be interesting to see the results.

Part 2. I would say unfriendly he had moved to have a shot on you. He had seen you were geared up and was waiting for you if you had gone up the stairs you would of been killed. -1point on that one I think

@ EP2

"You're a good shot"

That made me laugh. It's kind of hilarious that (at least in the video) some of the KOSers can't even hit anything. And this guy was a naked and unarmed guy with no gear. Imagine people shooting back.

I still feel slightly bad for anyone just shooting or abusing you somehow though :/

When naked I'd say most people are friendly, Kit up (have a gun) and they'll shoot at you 95% of the time.

The first guy you asked about in the second video wasn't necessarily unfriendly. He was being cautious. If someone came up on me like that i would have probably shot as well just based on being that startled. However, he did seem alright after you talked to him. A true unfriendly in that scenario, in my opinion, would have said 'ok yeah', then shot you when you checked the second time.

If someone cautions you to not get close, and you comply, that qualifies as friendly.

If you tarry, you can expect to be shot. Even fists are deadly. Best to go away.

You're doing this much better that another who tried to prove that most people are unfriendly.

Devildoggamer. He got in peoples faces, and was generally obnoxious.

It's a good experiment, but unfortunately the results will vary depending upon "luck."

Looking forward to more.
