Hidding backpack b4 entering a dangerous area? Will it be cleaned up by the game?

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

I have a question.  I have a 35 item, think its called mountain backpack, Its massive... and red!  I normally play on 1st person only view servers.

Ideally i want to take it off and hide it before I enter a town or similar area.  I want to do this for two reasons:  Its massive and RED!  I feel like I have a big shoot me sign on my back.  Secondly you cant see over your shoulder with it on, this is really annoying and troubling while sneaking around a town.

My main concern is if I leave it somewhere will the game remove it?  And if so after how long.  I'd really hate to loose all my gear by the game 'cleaning items up'. If someone finds it, cool... but loosing it ot the game mechanics would really suck.

Can anyone advise on the safety of this strategy in reagards to game mechanics.

Thanks.

I have left a Mosin and backpack hidden while looting the NW airfield for 10 mins then retrieved it if that is any help.

First off, that's a great tactic. It makes very good sense.

However, the game has its unstable moments and servers aren't great about announcing restarts. I suggest you find a less conspicuous backpack as soon as you can, and just be extra cautious until then, but don't take it off. Anything left on the ground is likely to be cleaned up when you least expect it.

I recommend the Hunting Backpack, which is slightly smaller, but it doesn't block the view over your shoulder and blends in much better with the vegetation than even the Green Taloon or Mountain backpacks.

There will eventually come a time when this tactic will make sense. Just wait for the next few iterations of the game to be released.

What i'd be more worried about is server restarts! if you can get the hunting backpack by far the best in the game and even that i only ever have half full.

Damn.. you are right.. server restarts.  Forgot about those!

I'm really annoyed at myself.. my only time to one of the airfields (in this life) was to NEAF, and i left a hunting pack due to its smaller size... it was a mistake but due the time needed to swap my stuff and the danger I was in at the time I left it.  I should have taken it.

I'm a hording survivor.. love my big packpack.. but damn I need to be able to spray paint it a better colour!

Thanks for the feedback.

If server resets it will get removed.

Also a player might find it you never know.

But it will only get removed on a server reset which happens usually once every 3-4 hours on most servers.

Most items disappear on the ground at the moment so I wouldn't recommend it.

Nein. they just take a while to appear ;)

At the Moment storing something for later is just not feasable due to the unforseen Server restarts.

Ubernaut is right.

The Hunterbackpack is the best one in game o.o

It's slightly smaller but you can manage this without any problem. If you're wearing military clothing, it will fit perfectly and you got the maximum camo.

I do this when looting bodies my sniper buddy has shot, Set my backpack and gun down - Run out to the corpse, pick up the gun and backpack then sprint back.

I'm always worried that the server will restart but it's a calculated risk.. I'm not going to die without my pack I can always replace whatever was in there.

Im hoping that loot will start spawning without a server restart so we can leave these annoying 4hr restart timers behind, a warning message for them would be a welcome change too

I do it usually when i get 'full gear', and yes, it's completely safe... Unless you run into a server restart o r one of those rare 'OMG where the item went?!'

As others have said your gear is safe on the floor unless a server restart happens (or it gets nicked by another player).

I carry a mosin on my back and a m4 in my hands which means I have to drop my m4 on the floor to eat and drink.

I get super paranoid when i need to do either, always hoping the server doesnt restart while my stacked m4 is on the floor leaving me one gun down with a can of beans in my hands :P

I have a few times lost items I put in "Vicinity", but I suspect it is because they ended up inside nearby trees or walls or under furniture. That it should happen to a massive backpack seems more unlike, and anyway just make sure you drop it where there are no such risky objects present.

Ive found retrieving items from under those dreaded pine trees alot easier in SA compared to the mod, still a little risky tho :D

Thanks for the input.  I'll likely do it now and then, but not as default.  Some servers are good enough to say the times when they restart.

Been seen with a big backpack greatly increases your chance of being KOS, so at times the risk will be worth it.

Sounds like somebody is using their head for once! I love strategy. I would advise you to not take off the pack.

1. Server restarts are more frequent than ever. High possibility of you losing everything.

2. Desync is a bitch. You losing gear is compounded by this. Very risky as it comes out of nowhere.

3. Switch over to the Hunters Pack. I did and its worth losing the 5 slots. Very stealthy as well as stylish. Honestly, I found the extra 5 slots always containing food stuffs and non essentials. I really don't need the extra 5. As it is now, I have 3 medic cases, 3 protective cases (3 fits snug on each side of the pack), two canteens and something else that I can't recall atm.

Look at it like this, food and stuff isn't that far away so you don't need to be chock full of food and drinks. Have just enough to keep you healthy. I have one protector case with 3 bags of rice and maybe a few cans of tune in other area's. Never have an issue.

Good luck!

I've found many buildings where you can put something down on the second floor and it's gone but you can find it on the first floor if the room under the place you put it down is accessible. I don't put things down unless I am on flat even ground or first floor of a structure anymore.

Hunting backpack + 3 protector cases and an ammo box. All my important gear in those which leaves plenty of slots for food and water.

I want to be honest and not make this sound mean but I wouldnt really worry about that too much.. It probably won't be too long before tents and things of that nature should be added. I read an article yesterday where Dean is talking about vehicles and player made housing should be implemented within the next 6 months. I wouldn't think a tent would be considered a player made house but the texture file for tents is already in the game files, so i wouldn't think it would be to far off.

If I knew I was going into a potential combat situation I wouldn't want that backpack with me so I would leave it in a location I knew of and then go back for it when I'm done.

But right now the game is too unstable for this, every time I drop an item I don't know when, where or even if it will re-appear again, not to mention we don't get warnings about server restarts.

I have thought much about this too for precisely the same reasons (I never use the mountain backpack, but with first person view only servers (hardcore?) these things are absolutely impossible, I had never thought about that. The server restarts as other posters mention are the main reason against something now. I think it's interesting to see we're asking for tents that would bridge these server restarts, by keeping stuff safe, but in reality, without the 4 hour restarts, the tents would be less necessary?

Which leads me to ask, how was this handled in the Mod? Did servers restart as often? Or is the 4 hour resets part of testing here, and will be over (once a week? month?) in future versions?
