Bandits are NOT ruining DayZ

Recommended Posts

Using some friendly and not-so-friendly interactions to illustrate my points, I argue that bandits are not ruining DayZ, but are in fact integral to it.

Bandits are. KoSers aren't bandits. proper bandits rob, torture etc. If you kill people who surrender, even if armed, it's not banditry

Another thread with the potential to end in a page long discussion about ... what exactly?

Sorry, just a bit "careful".

In the end, DayZ should have a healthy balance. Every playstyle has advantages and disadvantages. Fact is: People that just KOS (only that) and run around alone miss the rest the game has to offer.

I don't think KoSers are ruining the game either. I really enjoy hunting for them.

I agree KoS is not the same thing as banditry, but people tend to generalise.

Thanks. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to comment before they watch the video.

In a lot of ways this really inspired me to keep active in my play style that so many people hate. Thanks for this.

LOL I'm going to get some hate mail for this :)

Hacking, combat logging, server hopping, ghosting, this is the shit that is ACTUALLY ruining the game. You could be the friendliest hacker in the world, helping out people and giving away free gear - I hate you 1000000X more than someone who is camping on the coast and killing fresh spawns.

Dunno why people are arguing about the validity of KOS. Think about this though: the people behind DayZ are trying to make a realisitc Zombie Apocalypse simulation. In real life, where you only live once, are you going to take the chance of later being shot in the back of the head by a guy you spared because you wanted him to have a chance? Obviously, bandits dont ruin the game, and in my opinion, KOS doesnt either, but due to the easy frustration both things can cause, its easy to just give up rather than re strategize and go again. Again, the game was made to be realistic in the first place, but because its a game and you respawn and usually in an obvious location (coast), it can be frustrating. My idea about thi is to just switch servers if theres spawn killers and dont be too bitchy about it. (Dont mean to offend... that much... but thats what it seems like a lot of people are doing.)

Bandits are not ruining DayZ.  KOS is not ruining DayZ.  People who complain about bandits and KOS aren't ruining DayZ either.  There is no right or wrong way to play DayZ.

There are only two rules everyone needs to remember when playing DayZ.  In fact, Rule #2 pretty much sums up Rule #1 as well.

1. Don't get too attached to your gear. (You're just holding it for someone else)

2. Deal with it.

I saw it when you posted it on Reddit.  I'm just stating my overall general thoughts on the issue.

As far as combat loggers, server hoppers, ghosters, etc. the dev team is in the process of addressing those issues so at some point, they'll mostly likely cease to be an issue at all.

OK cool. I made a point about there being no right or wrong way to play myself. One of the main points of the video.

They are part of the game. Best thing is to get yourself some friends in this game. You are stronger in group than alone. Also goes for bandit players of course. Bandits are more effective in squads. It's one of the reasons I like this game.

When people say "You might not stay in Chernogorsk, it's not safe", they are talking about hunters. How often have I seen cars filled with bandit-skin players driving past not noticing me. It's what makes this game thrilling.

Your video gave me an idea if it hasn't been mentioned already but being able to use handcuffs to lock door would be cool. Nice video.

The problem with "counter sniping" is that you might snipe another counter sniper, and vice versa. I was in Chernogorsk Apartment just sniping zombies then some fuckface starts firing at me

I seriously cannot stress this enough, if I had a dollar for every time someone said "bandit KoS'ers" then I'd be a very wealthy man.

That's the risk you have to take. The other thing is, if you're in Cherno sitting in the same spot and making noise like that you should expect to be shot at.

For the purposes of the video it doesn't matter. I'm really talking about any playstyle people would claim is ruining the game, which usually means those who kill other players for whatever reason. As I said in the video, I've had comments saying I'm ruining the game because I killed someone who I saw as a threat (he hadn't even see me yet).

I agree that the hackers and combat loggers are the worst of the worst. Thanks for making that video, quite excellent.

Just got this comment on the video:

"bandits are turning this game into quake-lite. in a game designed by and for stupid people, people who play as bandits would have to be below-retarded. ie, barely sentient human equivalents of brown stains on the sheets"

Well we clearly can see he belongs in the 'stupid' camp. This game isn't even close to quake, in any way. Without bandits this game becomes animal crossing.

RP'claimers are the usual culprits of pointing fingers with their gospel. There is RP and there is RP that is boring as hell.

I did my share of game mastery with Cyberpunk P&P to know both kind of players just by the way they explain their play-style.

Gladly WarZ accommodates whatever styles.

As I commented on your video -"In a sense all the different player's choices makes the whole game a brand new experience every time I spawn."

Now this potentially has infinite combinations as the game matures.

Snappy salute.
