Captain Swag 2 Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Especially right now in alpha DayZ has not much content compared to what it is planned to, at the moment gearing up is super easy by server swapping and theres not much left to do then banditing or counter-banditing (protecting towns from bandits) Achivements are something alot more simpler to do than alot of the stuff planned on the roadmap Achivements make the game experience last longer which would keep players from playing longer which mean insisting on their friends to buy the game longer. So heres some ideas of steam achivements that would be fun to have, take note that for the community there should be no banditish achivements ex: kill x players Easy- Survivor :Stay alive for a complete hour- Protection First :Find a balistic helmet- Even more space :Find a mountain backpack- Hero :Bandage a friend Medium- Donator :Give a blood transfusion- Marathonist :Totally run x km- Give him good food :Force feed someone with canned beansHard- Jogger :Run x km in one life- Zombie Slayer :Kill 100 zombies in one life- Lucky Shot :Kill 3 zombies with one sniper rifle bullet Extreme-Rocky :Kill a zombie with your fists These were just examples but achivements are fun and make people play more the game and it should be implemented in alpha so people would not quit from boredom Edited January 19, 2014 by Captain Swag
Baarn 53 Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Achievements distract from the game itself and make it into a "Hey I really need to farm this achievement now"-thing. Oh and why is "killing a Zombie with fists" not an easy achievement? You didn't even include "and not get hurt in the process" which would still be easy. creature 1189 Posted January 19, 2014 This has been brought up before but I've never put my 2 cents in so.. So long as none of them promote killing players, I think it's a good idea. It's not something you have to do. It doesn't give you any advantages in the game. A lot of players don't know what to do once they're geared up. This could give them idea's for goals to accomplish. Dunno how easy it would be to implement though. Personally, I'd be happy knowing how many hours my guy's been alive..
Captain Swag 2 Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Dunno how easy it would be to implement though. Well it depends on the achivements killing x zombies isnt that hard to implement compared to adding vehicules or animals to the game (said from someone with some programming experience)But it would still mean work Achievements distract from the game itself and make it into a "Hey I really need to farm this achievement now"-thing. Oh and why is "killing a Zombie with fists" not an easy achievement? You didn't even include "and not get hurt in the process" which would still be easy. For the achivement farming the zombies are alright because the goal of the game is to kill zombies and survive but I must admit some achivements are farmable but hey but like Creature said above they dont give any advantage and you dont need to do them. The killing a zombie with your fists, you would just need to kill him with your fists doesnt matter if you get hit [EDIT] I just tried killing a zombie while being freshspawned and it was easy so i would put it in medium/easy and put something else in extreme Edited January 19, 2014 by Captain Swag
Fireflight (DayZ) 3 Posted January 20, 2014 I insist that this NEVER gets implemented in the game:/ sorry but rewards and achievments and badges and all that... it's distracts and really destroys the feeling of being in a apocalyptic world... if I sat in a house fleeing from zombies or bandits in real life and the enemy did not find me, no one would come up to me and say "hey there. you just made it out alive from a dangerous situation, here you have a medal! :D" and put a shiny sticker on my chest:P so na... I really opose this
Baarn 53 Posted January 20, 2014 it's distracts and really destroys the feeling of being in a apocalyptic world... I think this is the problem, it creates goals besides the one that makes up the game. Surviving. Every achievement distracts from the game itself, even if you'd make an achievement like "Survive x hours" it would still distract from the goal. I would run around, collect food and then simply afk over night in a hidden spot, hoping the server doesn't restart (maybe set a clock). Was this fun?Does this in any way describe how good I am at the game?Does it enhance the game? Achievements are a way to force players to prolong their playtime on an otherwise boring game.

Captain Swag 2 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) achievements?.... in a sandbox game?.... this isnt c.o.d. or any of those big name console games..Sandbox game? This isnt a sandbox game at all... Its a suvival game... If you want to play a sandbox game go play minecraft or gmod and in those two games there are achivements... Achievements are a way to force players to prolong their playtime on an otherwise boring game.Achievements in DayZ would to make another goal than killing players once you geared up and have nothing to do. I saw a couple of times a sniper group killing fresh spawns in kamyshovo how can that be funner? Edited January 21, 2014 by Captain Swag
BuddyRP 41 Posted January 21, 2014 Sandbox game? This isnt a sandbox game at all... Its a suvival game... If you want to play a sandbox game go play minecraft or gmod and in those two games there are achivements... it is indeed a game based on survival... in the form of a sandbox where there are no limits nor are there any set goals or objectives that you are required to achieve. you cant "win" so to speak, in the world of dayz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_game http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/106875-dayz-sa-will-dayz-remain-a-sandbox-game-forever/
jackycola 2 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) I can understand that some players do not like achievements... but why be selfish and ruin the fun for people who would love to have some? Just because they exist, it doesn't mean YOU are forced to do them. And if I want to hide in the woods for a day to get a stupid achievement, please let me lie in the woods for a day. You are free to ignore me and the achivements. The only question is which achivements are good and which ones are bad. Bad are things that make you do useless stuff. Like force-feeding many times or killing any amount of players. But there is absolutely nothing against surviving or being in healthy condition for specified duration. Or explore every location. Or travel a distance. I'd totally love to see those kind. I can still set my own goal of what I want to do, but having a challenge is motivating. fulipes 15 Posted January 21, 2014 I'm not a big fan for achievements, but if there will be some, could they be for:Places to find (Visited airfield, climbed the radio tower etc.)Gear to obtain (Rare clothing, dual wielded sawed-off shotguns etc.)Fun activities (Rode a bicycle, drove a car, flew a helicopter etc.) and especially Misc. stuff that has no certain value (Ate a can of beans on top of the highest mountain, hunted a deer with a crossbow, killed a boar with a trip wire etc.) So nothing to provoke pvp, nothing to cause farming and nothing that can't be obtained solo.'cause lets face it: Killing zombies, running for miles, dying and helping other survivors is part of the game, whereas achievements are for keeping players occupied after "endgame" has been reached and your team mates have logged out. I can't agree with that. Achivements should be given for playing the game like it should be played but being especially good in the process. Suviving for a long time in a game about surviving would be the best example for a good achievement.Everything that makes you do funny/useless stuff that you wouldn't normally do, is bad or even game breaking. Also coop achievements can be great. Maybe not in dayz, but some of the best achievements are when you have to work as a team to be able to get it. And after all, they should be "achieved", nothing that everyone can do without any afford or skill. Edited January 21, 2014 by jackycola
Baarn 53 Posted January 21, 2014 Why only carebear achievements and no pvp achievements? You are not forced to do them! *rolleyes*- Force feed disinfectant- kill x players in one life / y minutes I hope achievements never get implemented. Just because you are unable to figure out what to do after collecting items does not mean the game has to tell you. In fact the game has a lot to offer even at the current stage of development (and even more will be added). Achievements only create pointless goals that are against the spirit of the game.
