Fix the Forums!! Please.

Recommended Posts

Can we get some measures to combat the myriad of pointless/redundant threads on these forums.  Perhaps not let folks with less than 50 posts, not be able to create new threads in certain subsections.  Since the bug-tracker is on separate accounts that wouldn't be a problem.  Let them start as many threads as they want in Recruitment and the New Player sections.

Seriously, it seems most of the new people in here have never used a forum.  They treat it like some chat room.  Can't for the life of them use the search function.  Most of it is just drivel from fappwits that don't know what an alpha entails.

There are probably a thousand threads that could just be outright deleted for there lack of activity and usefulness alone.

I suppose this is a little on the ranty/ragey side of things, but there are plenty of measures that could be made to streamline the forums.  Perhaps even educate those not familiar with the use of internet forums, on more proper ways of communicating there issues and topics of choice.

Just a thought...

Later,

Alfa...

No. That will only create more spam, for many new users would post whatever to rise their post-count to fifty.

If you see a redundant/pointless/worthless topic, use the report button.

I feel your rage, but the mods do a pretty good job with the redundant threads. All we need to do is ignore them (the threads, not the mods). At some point I'll take my own advice, too.

Alpha.

Oh, wait.

Reported.

No seriously. We can only hope those posters don't receive too much abuse and soon realise the errors of their ways so they can better enjoy our company this community.

Wouldn't it be better if they spammed already existing threads, than spamming with whole new threads?  That was just an idea that I know has it's flaws.  Not gonna argue, as you probably know better about these things, it being your 'job' and all.  You also have a better understanding of the capabilities of this forum software.

Just thought that doing anything is better than doing nothing.

I always see the report button as something to be used in more extreme circumstances than just redundancy/pointlessness.

Good point that I also forgot to mention in my post.  DON'T POST IF YOU THINK THE THREAD IS NOT WORTH A RESPONSE.  Let it die.

Pointless topics included. Anything that we might take action on, report it.

Restricting users to certain forums wont help. Just judging from how many suggestions are currently not posted in the suggestions forum, a lot of people can't even manage to find the right place to post their stuff. I doubt restricting the users will help with that.

Not saying they need to be restricted from posting and viewing in all sections, just whether or not they can start a new thread.

Not everyone is a forum dweller like you. Don't like it, don't read it.

Says this while making  redundant thread.

*facepalm*

I think you need to grow up and let the moderaters do there job, that is why we have moderaters if it was an automatic system like you suggest it would cause a ton of other unforseen problems.

People making threads that are redundent is none of your business and i also find this thread redundant so please stop crying, besides if you dont want to see repeat threads dont go on the new player section because in the general section people know better and as the new players get better they will learn just like we all did.

Someone needs to change their tampon.

Hello there

Have you seen the state of some other forums?

We keep this one relatively clean.

Plus we are very, very relaxed in comparison to some forums not to far from here internetwise.

We try to maintain the balance with giving users alot of flexibility over what they are allowed to get away with but that "freedom" has a flip side.

Although some parts of the forums might not be ideal, we are aware of it but Rome was not built in a day.

Labeling the forums as a cluster**** isnt going to win you much love from the mods here either.

Rgds

The only thing clustering the forums is Orlok's love for everyone.

Right? He's too nice.

Sorry guys(mods), if this came across as judgment on you.  Nor do I mean to demand any of the examples I gave.  You guys do a very good job of not letting people get away with murder.  I just thought some things could be done to clean up the clutter(ha much better word, for what I was getting at).

With the influx of new players, and new forum users I just see it getting worse in the future.

Don't worry, this is just a seasonal disturbance.

I am new to the forum as well, but speaking from experience I gained from other communities this wont be a problem for long. As fast as these users came, most will be gone in a few days or months. Few will stay and those who do will learn how to behave.

I was going to reply to this thread, but the thread is pointless and after reading the responses already posted by others and not actually having anything to add to the discussion, I decided not to.

Last thing we need to do is make the new people feel unwelcome.
