Why all this "need hunting rifles not sniper rifles"?

Because when people talk about sniper rifles they are usually referring to .50 cals, SVDs, Interventions, and other mili-cool shit like that. This isn't an ARMA mod anymore.

 

Remington 700's and M40's are the same thing by the way. The M40 is a modified 700 hunting rifle that is specially modified with aftermarket components, threaded barrels, and stuff like that.

I dress in "Civilian" style gear, because in my short stint playing DayZ SA, anyone wearing a mask of any sort, or full milgear is either a bandit/kos'r or someone who isn't going to risk interaction and shoot to protect his/her gear (Full milgear usually.)

 

So I will stick to my civilian setup in the hopes of not insighting a full blown panic in people I come across. ;)

Likewise. My experience of people in milgear and/or gas/clown masks is that they will shoot without provocation or interaction. There has only been one exception and they still tried to kill me anyway, just in a different way.

As such, I've modified my approach to people. Anyone in milgear/gasmasks will get shot if they pose a significant risk to myself or others. I also don't wear military gear, save for my black UK assault vest, but that goes nicely with my grey cargo pants, red hoodie (matches the red mountain backpack), black working gloves and black radar cap (was a pink baseball cap :D)

Id say thats pretty much what your going to be looking at this is a wooded poor area there are hunting (deer stands) dotted all over the place its going to have hunting rifles again more likely 20 /30 year old some new and even some american . the scopes being the hardest to find part i mean isnt that how it is now a mossin is easy to find the LR scope for it somewhat harder lol .

 

Oh devildog i expect there to be american weapons in there but i am betting not to many as well its already been stated that the m4 was launched as first weapon basicly to test the whole new modular attachments system (m4 being noted for its diversity ).

 

But this is speculation merely based on the hours and hours of interviews i have watched of rocket and weapons being a common question he is asked.

I agree, I actually said that in this thread haha. I think the farms/deer stands should be littered with civilian hunting rifles and shot guns and then high end scopes pretty rare and then high end military sniper rifles a bit more rare than the scopes.

 

Just silly that many posters seem to assume that if there were hunting rifles and not sniper rifles the snipers would be less effective. I assume these local hunters are feeding their family with the game they kill, so the civilian rifles should at least shoot straight.

I would say the non-military rifles are wanted as they add somesort of realism to the world. Like you can find those more likely than some military weapons. Small things count to the immersion, you liked it or not.

 

And what comes to the US weapons and other countries weapons there are a ton of countries that employ peacekeepers and help, so I could see weapons from multiple different countries being made available with really rare spawns. Although I do not know why US has showed up to help anyone, rather than wage full scale war on some random country for oil. (That end bit is a joke, do not take it seriously.)

I know, that is why I put that in the OP :thumbsup:  They are not exactly the same but have the exact same action, and the stock Rem 700 can reach out and touch a target just the same. The M40 is made more for durability than for accuracy anyway.

I would love both. The more variety the better imo. I would love 15-20 calibers and 50 or so firearms. I would love to see people carrying all sorts of stuff instead of your typically geared squads in the Mod.

This is very much what i hope.. If gear is our only level so to speak in the game then it needs to be wide and varied in the amount of types merely in lower numbers to be found...

 

Work ya but off for that nice rifle get lucky loot a guy but when i meet a group i want to see alot of different stuff all the way down to the double barrel side by side ( along the lines of what i was leading at the age of general equipment found does anyone make a side by side anymore i havent seen one in many many years and i am kinda old lol )

There is basically no difference than military beeing cool and a must have for the wannabe bambi killers and maybe the capability of engaging targets better with the usual military scopes. It's also the fact that every rifle with a magification scope is a "sniper rifle" in noob terms that gives them a bad reputation compared to hunting rifles that are more "civilian"? You can also use a hunting rifle to shoot other players but juding by the name "hunting rifle" it is primarily used to hunt game IRL and not to KoS. So generally military sniper rifles are "bad" and used for "bad things"...same goes for any kind of military or military type civilian rifle.

 

Pretty much agree with this. IRL I have a Remington 700 model base and modded it (with legal parts!) and it could really more or less double as an M24. Which is a sniper rifle. It doesn't really make a difference. I think that what they have here from a development standpoint is an opportunity to give you some basic weapons and you need to find attachments, as opposed to just getting a fully decked out rifle right off the bat. Making it harder to obtain these things. The word "Sniper Rifle" shouldn't really be associated with "Omg it's bad!", but I do think they should keep an eye on how they implement things and at what frequency. 

 

I think it would suck to just find an AS50 right off the bat and go stomp noobs with it. That's too OP imo. Make that shit really rare.

I hope the sawn off side by side can go in my pack like a pistol. This way I can carry a full barreled shotgun and a sawn off. Consolidate the ammo and have an indoor gun too.

 

There are some companies that make the side by side still, not too bad for price either. I don't know if any of the major gun companies do though.

Agreed. If they ever add an AS50 type gun the ammo should be extremely rare and super heavy.

Solid post Gews but how can you say US involvement makes no difference to M40s being there? If there are M4s there then there would be M40s as well, of course they would be very rare, as they should be. 1 M40 for every 20 M4s or something to that effect.

 

Bottom line as far as why US weapons are there. This is a game they will have US weapons to cater to the market. It's not a big deal.

If they added one and gave it a somewhat "realistic" chance of spawn, it would be something ridiculous like 1-in-5,000, 1-in-10,000, etc. Better to spend the time on other weapons.

I am ok with the Mauser being in game. Add in M1 Garand as well. The more the better IMO. Don't discriminate :lol: M1 Garand with modern optics = best gun in game.
