Stealth Zombie updates

Recommended Posts

1. We have all noticed that zombies have better path finding now, correct? 

 

2. We all know this hasn't been mentioned in any patch, right?

 

3. Also, there are slightly more zombies than before. 

 

4. This kind of zombie update is really cool and should continue, can you dig it?

 

Sign if you think all zombie updates should be behind the scenes and take us by surprise :D

 

EDIT: if they come correctly at a system like that for tweaking zombie AI, it will feel like over time the zombie apocalypse becomes worse.

The zombies can still phase through walls though, the current biggest issue with them; until they have greater numbers, this is what makes the zombies threatening.

I have done extensive testing. At some point after the last patch (long ago) pathfinding saw some huge leaps in improvement, and zombie count on server restart seems to have at least doubled. 

 

I can make a zombie follow me through most doorways and up most stairs. Before, 'upstairs' was the new 'zombies cant walk indoors.'

Haven't encountered an invisible zombie in some time, but they still walk through walls... that's a huge problem.  Unless, of course, we call this DayG and just make them ghosts  :D

This is actually a good idea, keeps the whole "Zombies are scary" thing kinda going for an hour or so.

Not really trying to contradict you or anything, but I had zombies come up the stairs to the second floor of the school building the first day I played SA.

I've had zombies walk through the stairs instead of going up them the first day SA came out and ever since I last played in December.

 

As for hidden zombie updates, I don't care.

For now if you have 'invisible' zombies, I recommend making sure your not horribly desynced, and that you kill them before you move into buildings as they can bug out in the walls and floor.

I finally had a zombie ome up the stairs at me saturday. Prior to that they would just fall through them or stand in the room at the bottom of the stairs. Do seem to be seeing a few more Z's around in town too.

Zombies will never be scary in DayZ. They'll be annoying when there's a lot of them, but they'll never really be that much of a threat.

Last night I had a horrible time with invisable zombies.  A server I was on (not showing out of sync) was filled with them.  I died 4 times last night (3 of those intentionally after deciding to see if they were still invisible after the previous death) and it was frustrating, but hey, it's the early Alpha so I'm not that worked up about it.

 

I did notice the pathing last night.  Once I found a server where I could see the zombies, I got one after me and took off through 2 houses and stood behind a fence on the 3rd and that damn zombie still came after me (not passing through walls however.  She just followed my exact path like a bloodhound.)  She was very determined.  LOS didn't seem as easy as it had previously.

Yeah seems like they did some finetuning to the zombie AI. Have the same feeling about some D-sync issues. Haven´t had any problems with other players sliding around since a week. Would be great if the Devs would tell stuff like this. Because its impossible to help fixing issues if you don´t know if it has been fixed or if it´s just another/new bug or whatever.

Hes completely right, as long as zombies are glitching through walls it will never be hard. You can easily loot houses with 20 of them behind and you are still able to get out of the houses. They do not block doors if they come through walls.

I was pretty startled the first time a zombie followed me upstairs like a week ago, but when she got the top where I was, she just turned around and went back downstairs to the area below where I was.

I've definitely noticed the difference! The biggest improvement seems to be with fences and gates currently; ever since the ninja-patch that overhauled it, I have yet to have a zombie clip through a fence after I vault it; they always seem to successfully pathfind around it to an opening, and it doesn't break LoS. Truly phenomenal improvement, the only phasing issues I've seen are with some walls, and even then, I've got about a 25-50% success rate that zeds will actually find doorways. I haven't observed if it's tied to specific building architectures that they know how to path, or if it's just an inconsistent behavior, but the current state of affairs is an across-the-board improvement from the initial alpha build!

It would be easy to make them into a serious threat, but judging by the amount of times they had to nerf them in the mod, the community would probably moan and groan until they nerf them here too.

 

Increase the numbers, make them more aware, let them sprint as fast or even faster than players and they would be much more annoying and a bit more of a threat.

 

Then make it so only head shots will kill them. Of course then the tears would start to flow in the forums. I don't care what anyone says, a swarm of dozens of zeds charging at you faster then you can run, that don't die from body shots would change everything.

so and how do you improve features?? by fixing bugs and glitches. and what happens when you implement a new feature without testing???? i think u maybe could find that answer by urself

I hade some zombie slut following me for at least some time. Everytime i though i lost her she appeared again. God dammit. I wish there whould be 10x more of her kind.

...And what do you think would happen if they fixed all the bugs now and then added a tonne of new features? I don't mean to be rude but you aren't making much sense.

 

The logical approach is generally to concentrate on getting all the features in place first, while fixing major bugs and issues along the way. Then after that's done you can concentrate on bug fixes secure in the knowledge that all the new features aren't just going to break everything and take you back to square one.

I 100% agree with faster zombies that can only be killed by headshots, or any other means to make them very scary. Whenever I clear out whole cities with a fire axe, I can't help but think "THESE (player detector) things wiped all armed forces, destroyed tanks, trained soldiers and ate most civilians?"

And there goes my immersion.

I love you anyway DayZ :rolleyes:
