Military Weapons, Snipers, Ect.

Recommended Posts

Lately, I have noticed that the argument of "This is not a Zombie MilSim, it is a survival MilSim, why do you need an AS50 Rifle? OR a D.M.R. Most civilians would not know how to operate a firearm anyway."

While this IS true, you do need knowledge on how to operate a piece of equipment like an anti material rifle, as well as any firearm. But to remove them completely from the game is just ABSURD. The military would still have these types of things, not just laying around, but they would still have them. As I know it is in Alpha, I'm not complaining about the game itself, but rather why remove these types of weapons? Why not just make them EXTREMELY rare? To say there would not be military snipers deployed, is insane as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper_rifle

Above are two links, first being the D.M.R. of U.S. military. Not a sniper rifle, it is an M4A1 Carbine, effective for up to 550–2,200 yd. I can not hit the broad side of a barn, while inside the barn with this weapon in game. (In Alpha, I know, it is going to be tweaked until its finished.)

Second linking being of a sniper rifle Wikipedia page. The Mosin in game, is of WW1-WW2 era, far out of date. The Arma DayZ mod DMR looks identical to my 30-6 Hunting rifle. A very common firearm owned by many.

On the topic of other weapons, the AR-15, is actually very common 'hunting rifle'. Some would say this is an assault weapon, as it is not, an assault weapon is a fully automatic rifle. (Let's not get into politics here, lol.)

My argument may have gone way off track, but the point is, sniper rifles and military grade weaponry would not be common, should only be found in military bases, ect. They should be rare, and hard to get, but not removed from the game. Perhaps make the bases harder to get into? Rather than have a huge, gaping hole where a cement wall should be? The main gates should have to be locked and perhaps a cut open with another tool? Perhaps even add an armory, as on military bases, weapons are not usually carried in barracks, but put away and counted every day.

(In Alpha, I know, just trying to provide a topic to debate about, so please don't flame me.) All I was saying, is I have seen people complaining about sniper rifles and what not, and not wanting them. The average citizen is usually a hunter, or has hunted before.

Only as a extremely rare spawn on a crash sight maybe, otherwise no.

That's exactly what I was meaning, only extremely rare occasions like that. Or perhaps even wrecked convoys, (that'd be pretty awesome.)

Hell no. At least not super-arcade-easy-to-use like in Arma2.

Nothing like a .50 caliber anti material rifle should be easy to use. Were they going to implement a skills tree? I realize a character dies and that character is gone, but perhaps if they put in a skills branch and maybe books or military manuals they could make it to were your character has to have the actual ability to fire a weapon like that without displacing his shoulder or messing the actual weapon up some how. That would also make players more cautious as they wouldn't want to lose their skills.

Hi.

You really should try reading the articles you linked before posting this kind of mis-information.

The DM's role fills the gap between a regular infantryman and a sniper (typically being deployed at ranges of 250–500 metres or 270–550 yards) and DMRs have been developed with this middle ground in mind.

These rifles have to be effective, in terms of accuracy and terminal ballistics, at ranges exceeding those of ordinary assault rifles and battle rifles (typically 250 m or 270 yd or less, and up to 500 m or 550 yd, respectively) but do not require the extended range of a dedicated sniper rifle (typically employed for targets at ranges from 500–2,000 m or 550–2,200 yd).

An M4A1 effective up to 2 kilometers.

Regards.

Hope the game never ever ever has any semi automatic sniper rifles outside of maybe the svd with 5 round magazines and perhaps the vss.

Well, we must put into consideration that Chernarus is a post soviet state, therefore, I don't think that many U.S. made weapons would be present on the country.

While any civ can pick up a weapon and effectively put it to use, maintaining it is a different story. Your average joe isn't gonna know how to gut and care for these firearms. Therefore, if one is found, I'd expect it to lose quality during use.

Actually from what I've seen most people in favour of bringing back weapons like the AS50 seem to assume those against want no sniper rifles at all. Whereas I seem to see more people who are in the camp that wishes to see soviet not European or US weapons, which in itself isn't a no sniper rifle camp.

I did read through the articles, I accidentally copy pasted the wrong information, I apologize. Thank you for pointing that out. As you said, DMR would be used for the middle ground in mind, but I still can't hit the broad side of a barn inside the barn. D:

Of course military weapons shouldn't be removed from the game. DMRs and M107s and other out-of-place Western weapons should be removed from the game.

I want to see certain "military grade sniper rifles". I don't feel any of the following weapons would be too terribly out of place.

Ah, yes, post soviet state. But doesn't the tactical shirt sport a U.S. flag on the arm? Could be wrong. Not sure though. Maybe I'm over analyzing things. xD

But there is a U.K. assault vest in the military areas, which would hint that they had some form or role in the quarantine efforts.

I like this, the feel of a wooden scoped rifle, feels more survivalist to me.

There could be many reasons for this one of which is its just a place holder. But from my point of view it would make most sense to start adding "local" weapons first then move on to rarer small amounts of other stuff.

It does resemble the us thing is the patch is backwards, the stripes and stars are also hard to make out, even on a pristine shirt.

Hey OP you should of really checked out that wikipedia link on DRM's because huh

DMRs range from a wide area. Soldiers of the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq. The soldier on the right is armed with an M4 carbine. The soldier on the left is armed with an SDM-R.

Was Chernaus the start of the outbreak? If it was, there may be some sort of jointed relief effort, but a place holder could be the reason.

I'm not sure, I know some U.S. uniforms have the flag "backwards".

Not sure if that's a standard issue uniform or not or if this is some sort of meme.

If we still had a flag carrier to lead a charge what would the flag look like if you were on the flag carriers right side?

Hi.

I read somewhere in the forum that the so called 'lore' of DayZ involves some type of civil war, with NATO forces in to aid in some way.

If this is true it would totally explain the western weapons.

That said, gimme an AK-74 with kobra optics please  , I'm not really the snipe from 1200 meters away type, though I'm definitely not complaining about those pesky snipers.

Regards.
