What should be a zombie in DAYZ

Firstly Thanks for your work, which is still remarkable that already we are only in alpha.


It seems to me that we DayZ sum in the presence of infected zombies as those described in the books of max brooks and in the Walking dead BD and series.

But in Dayz The zombies do not yet represent a real danger.

I think that adding a few points along the Z correspond more to what we want and be more dangerous and unpredictable. So players can keep more bullets for zombies and don’t  for conspecifics.


 

1. Zombies and damage:

In DayZ  the zombies die no matter where you pull or hit.

A zombie must have destroyed the brain to no longer exist, thus in the reference cited above and many more. Should the zombie dies by head shot. Body blows that should slow them down. Blows to leg should, as soldier of Arma 2 and 3, forced to crawl but not kill them. Whether shot or stabbed it should be the same result, with more or less rapidity


  • Head = death with one or multiple strokes according weapon

  2. Heavy blunt object (Wrench, baseball bat, crowbar) 2-3 shots

  • Chest and arm = deterioration of their strength.

Their strength is expected to decrease happened to be near zero


  • Leg = change of velocity and displacement of the form

Running> Walking> Limping> Crawling


2. Player’s detection

3. The damage are zombies

Zombies are not the undead,  they are Infected as in 28 days later.  They are living humans that have become rabid in some way, thats the reason why we can kill them with a (lot of) blows to the body or shooting them in the heart.  For everything else keep in mind the zombies are currently placeholders as they work on the 'final' zombies.  There's only a few spawning because the servers cannot currently handle the intended numbers without lagging out or blowing up.

Zombies are not the undead

Are you sure? Dean Hall speaks well of zombie in his interviews and not infected.
Is this an abuse of language on his part?
I confess that at present and even more since the update it looks more like  infected . But it would be very valuable to really know if have zombies or not.
If a dev could respond on this point it would be nice.

At least Dean have called them Infected so far. The zombies came from DayZ name where Z actually stands for Zero not Zombie. The look on the infected and name of game has brought the zombie part in discussions. No confirmation has been that the infected are undead, they are just sick of some sort of disease.

It appears that the Z are not undead for realism's sake.

This doesn't mean they can't behave as classic undead Z.

I see it as a ploy to keep the realism fans happy.

But is it really necessary?

Zombie, in this case, refers to something under the control of something else - much like voodoo zombies were under the control of witch doctors. So, it's a looser use of the word, but not a usage without precedent. There are references now to zombifying parasites like Toxoplasma gondii and Cordyceps fungi (the basis for the zombies in The Last of Us). These parasites take control of the body in some way. Toxoplasma gondii is believed to be a cause of schizophrenia and Rocket has mentioned it specifically when it comes to DayZ. He hasn't said it is Toxoplasmosis, but said it may be something along those lines.

So, the zombies in DayZ are the result of either a zombifying parasite or virus. Survivors are said to be immune - which is why you don't turn when you die.

i love the dispute about zombies and infected-.-

 

 

all zombies in every movie and game are the same archtype. the difference is the level of the "dead" and how long can they walk with a hole in the body.. how fast how strong and why. dark magic? a virus? alien tec?(husks from mass effect)

same thing with warewolfs and vampires. how much percent wolf parts have my creation insteat of human parts.

what jaw will have my vampire?can he split his jaw? can he hide his teeth. what will he drink? blood?...souls?

 

we always talk about zombies. the classic horror that works since generations in movies and books.

i just hope that the final version of these zombies will have some more gore to it... like... being able to blast off their legs and they will still try to crawl to you...
