Remove crosshair for all non-melee weapons

Crosshair

61 members have voted

  1. 1. Crosshair or no Crosshair

    • No crosshair at all for ballistic weapons
    • No crosshair for all weapons
    • Keep the crosshair as it is
    • Make the crosshair in another way
    • I don´t care

Why do they still keep the crosshair(the point) for third person view? I mean okay, it makes looting the bugged stuff easier but its just an unfair advantage in third person view. You can camp in the deep grass and simply snipe(with a little bit of training(1 or 2 shots)) all you see.
Why don´t they remove the "crosshair" for all ballistic weapons?
I know it feels hard at the beginning but after 20-30 minutes you completely forgot that there ever was one(Played PR:BF2 for 7 years so I know what I´m talking about).

Keep it for melee weapons and unarmed to make looting easier, but please remove it for all ballistic weapons to make camping a little bit harder :).

Pls discuss

Yes, that would be good. But at the moment looting can be a little bitch, only because of the dot you sometimes have the possibility to loot some stuff. Melee attacks can also be hard if theres no crosshair atall, aws bugged as it is right now

Most people think it would be harder without it, but if you get used to it(what happens as fast as you would never believe) you will not miss it.

for what your asking for, it would take more then just removing the dot, in a lot of multiplayer games that remove the dot, the players simply stick a dot to their monitor, its effortless to place and remove. what would need to be done on top of having the dot removed is having the point of impacted shift a random distance and angle off the center of your monitor each time you enter third person.

Sticking something on your monitor makes it not really easier. Weapons are zeroed at 200 m at the moment.

Im quite sure this a difficulty matter.
If you put it on expert difficulty it will be gone, unless they changed it from the Arma games, which i doubt they have looked at yet.

But if it came down to it, it should be removed all together, force people to aim they're weapon.

The current "I can Rambo-shoot from my hip and kill everything" is abit lame tbh, breaks immersion and is in no way authentic.

In the mod, and in Arma 2/3 ive ALWAYS played on servers with crosshair disabled, because i hate it so much :)

Neh, remove it for melee too.

People just be trying to aim where the crosshair is and they have no idea that melee weapons hit on contact now.

If they have buggy items then that needs to be fixed anyway.

In reality though it is actually a bit easier to shoot from the hip than in most games.

Most games create a giant spread factor that makes it impossible to hipfire with anything that isn't automatic, the good thing about dayZ and arma is the bullet goes where the barrel is pointing, but with that at the end of the day people could put a dot on their screen/ something and have the same effect.

What I think they need to do is increase idle and moving weapon sway a bit make shooting a bit harder and recoil a bit bigger, and holding your gun still unless lying down requires you to breath out.

That might be true, but in DayZ its really easy to kill people with hip fire.

It should not be that easy tbh, and the crosshair is one of the "easy fixes" to this problem, along with the other stuff you suggest :)

I don't think you understand the significance of how small a 200m sight-in makes  for the offset of your point of impact, what I 'm also saying is if I know pretty well where the bullet will land, I can still be effecting at hipfire at 100-300 meters, and deadly at 100 meters and less. if hip fire was as inaccurate as it is in Red Orchestra 2, you would see a lot less of it.

True, and i think a good place to start would be to remove the crosshair all together :)

In addition with more weapon sway, removing the dot would be perfect. Good ideas so far guys, keep discussing

I'm in favor of getting rid of the dot so long as that comes with removing the silly amount of zoom that comes with the pistol iron sights.

They should remove the dot and have an indicator appear only when you hover over an item.

Yes, but only to show the interactions possible.

I remember in the mod that you just hovered around and were able to spot any survivor in direct line of sight popping his name in your hud

Its already been confirmed, name tags like that will never get into SA, so dont worry about that :)

Good feature for Arma COOP, very abd feature for DayZ.

While I am not opposed to removing the crosshair/dot I have to wonder why people always seem to suggest that crosshairs while firing from the hip are not 'authentic' or 'realistic'.

I can tell a lot batter where my bullets are going to go when firing from the hip in real life than in most shooters.  In real life you have the tactile connection to the weapon which allows you to judge and gauge where your muzzle is pointing without even looking at the weapon in a way you can't in a video game.

If anything the crosshair only helps give that sort of sense to a player in the digital simulation.

The point where it gets stupid is beyond 50m as a person's innate sense of alignment stops being accurate at all past that.  In my opinion they should make that dot 'zeroed' for like 10-20m and beyond that make it extremely off.  Reason I say that, is IRL it's a whole lot easier to dump a magazine into a target at close range and hit every shot than it is to try and aim with sights and try to pin point shot at that sort of range with iron sights.  This would solve the dot being used for killing at range, but allow it's use for CQB and looting.  I use it a lot for picking up hard to reach loot.

Granted, without the dot some of us can learn to 'hip fire' at close-medium range anyways so I personally wouldn't suffer from it's removal.  In BF3-BF4 I can hip kill people on hardcore servers up to 100m without the crosshair.

On a related tangent.  Anyone else ever thought it was stupid that games would give crosshairs to assault weapons, but didn't have them for sniper rifles?  Because a sniper can't shoot without the scope right?  =P

N crosshair at all, I'd love to play this as it was in the hardcore servers in the mod.

No crosshair is not really hardcore(I know this was not your intention), would be shit if this would only be for hardcore or private hives. Should be like this in entired game
