Utterly Disappointing

Recommended Posts

First off i would like to say the "idea" behind this game is fantastic, however, the execution behind it is quite pathetic (even for an alpha). The list of issues with this game could go on forever but i will start with server lag. Let's say you and some friends are running around town engaging in firefights, you run up on top of a building to get a better vantage point and BAM, dead, all because the server lags you off of the building. Or even better, you frantically try to pull out a weapon because you happened to run up on someone and guess what, not happening, you just stand there like an idiot while you get gunned down. So even on top of the appalling game mechanics you have to deal with lag, which makes a skillful firefight non-existent. Another huge aspect of this game that makes it so undesirable is the community. I understand if you are fully decked out and you are running around with your gun drawn that it should be fair game to shoot, however, while running through buildings looting or running through a town, chances are some "DAYZ Pro" is going to gun you down from inside of a house or behind a wall and then run up to your body yelling "get raped faggot." This would not be a problem if you didnt lose all of your gear and then HOPE you get a decent spawn which you will spend the next 20 minutes running to your body. It may seem that i am "raging" but this is a consensus that has been reached among many of the people i play with or have spoken to with about the game. If i were the dev team i would focus on making what they have more stable then rushing to push new content.

Gave up after the first sentence.

Dean Hall has stated MANY times that you should not buy this game due to it being an early alpha still.

You can't play the game unless you hit the "I understand" button on the screen where it explains that this is an incomplete alpha.

Yet here you are, complaining about the state of the game (I assume, remember I never read this).

One word for you. Idiot.

you complain about stability, but ignore the fact that the game is in early development stage, thus unstable, broken and incomplete.

you complain about ruthless pvp, but ignore the fact that ruthless pvp is one of core aspects of the game.

you complain about death and gear loss, but ignore the fact that a.] persistant storage is on the confirmed feature list and b.] permadeath is a core aspect of the game.

Your last period: they say thay are and they are definitely not rushing out new content. The end of the sense of your post.

Also, perma death is an important characteristic of this game, if you don't like it I'm afraid you won't like even the full release.

Anyway...why comment without reading? That's stupid, no offense intended.

My good sir,the lag issue (especially in towns-cities) is a common problem that we all share, and it's already planned to fix in the to-do list next patches.

Other than that you will have to befriend the idea that your charachter-or gear are not to be attached to.

This is what makes Dayz.Grats on your first post.

What is utterly disappointing is that people 1) Do not understand what an Alpha version of a game means, 2) Do not read the copious amounts of warnings both on Steam before purchase and in game once purchased, and 3) Sign up to the forum to bitch about all of the bugs IN THE ALPHA VERSION OF THE GAME that the Developer said not to buy because they somehow feel hard done by.

Because I knew what the topic was about just by reading the topic title and first line. Just another whiner from the priviliged console generation crying that an early alpha access game isn't fully optimised.

Let me guess - You go to the junkyard and buy a burned car with a total loss, and later you'd cry about the fact that it doesn't drive. This game isn't meant to be played right now, it's meant to be tested, and this will continue for atleast a year for sure, while they slowly apply all the fixes. Lags, rubberbanding, bad mechanics - That's what you've been warned of, but you still bought the game. And who said that they only focus on new content? Not every freaking developer does the same thing. I see that you don't even have the slightest clue about how this works. But yeah, this Alpha game is "sooo bad", even though its more stable in its current state than a big, well known shooter triple A title.

Sorry man, you saying "the state of the game is pathetic even for an alpha" shows that you do not understand what an alpha is. Not trying to be a dick here, but it's true. You have no clue what alpha means. None, zero!

The state the game is right now, in this very second, is called alpha. Nothing more nothing less. There is nothing "pathetic" about it. I usually hate the all mighty "it's alpha answer", but this time it fits perfectly.

IT'S ALPHA!

What is utterly disappointing is that people 1) Do not understand what an Alpha version of a game means

No, whats utterly disappointing is, that those people say or think they know what it means.. When the very first sentence they write shows that they don't...

It sounds to me that you're just bad.You need to be careful and patient in DayZ. Because it's an alpha you need to be even more careful and patient. Based on that wall of text, it doesn't seem that you possess either of those qualities. Maybe CoD is more your style.

Many of the people you play with are apparently idiots and not at all sure what the term 'alpha' means. Alpha is the stage when key gameplay functionality is implemented, and assets are partially finished. That means the game works, and most of the stuff is there, but assets that don't work aren't implemented while they polish up code to an implementational (is that a word?) state. Basic coding for fires is there, as are the ingredients to build them, but the code isn't allowing for it yet. The basics for vehicles are there (mine your game directory or check the config files) But the code isn't stable so it's switched off. Right now is the stage where most everything is there in one form or another, but it hasn't been tested or has proven it needs work. Right now is when they are bouncing ideas off the testing groups to see what works, what doesn't, what features they should be working on, and what's going to get left out. Alpha is buggy as hell. After this comes the code freeze, where they stop putting in new ideas and work to polish what they've got code wise (work on stability, things that make things crash, collision. In most games that doesn't even happen until about 6 to 7 months after alpha starts. In this particular game they are working on the code-freeze portion while they are working through alpha, though they are focusing on the alpha portion as it is what is called 'playable alpha', which essentially means they are working half as an alpha and half as a beta at the same time. Most games don't even allow external beta testers until beta starts.

You bought into an Alpha my friend, as the page clearly states, and as the game states every time you log in. You ARE NOT here to ENJOY playing the game, you ARE here to find problems with the game and report them in a respectful manner.

As a side note, if you bother to look at the dev roadmap at all you'll see that their priority is to achieve server stability and implement the non-function features of the game so that it will be ready for BETA (FUlly playable state where they test server stability and overall game stability, iron out things they've missed. That's the level of the game you are looking for, I suggest you participate in a respectful manner in this ALPHA, or patiently zip your lip and wait until BETA next year.

you can read this in the meantime....

Edit: Not sure why it changed the text to black.....

I am not going to go into the fact that you chose to purchase an unfinished game.  You must have read the warnings and yet you hit the Add to Cart button in Steam and then the Purchase For Myself button.

Yes the alpha has bugs and the Devs know about these issues.  As an alpha purchaser you should be helping with bugs and issues instead of treating this as a complete game and complaining when you die to the many issues currently in the alpha.

Complaining about permadeath and having to gear up again will get you no sympathy either. This is what DayZ is about and until they bring out the Softcore version you will have to make do with a mechanic which has served both the Standalone and the Mod for nearly 2 years.

Raping dead bodies and forcing people to eat shit for no reason, just because you can laugh about that kind of stuff. you guys are so discusting. I have a deeply aversion against that kind of player. just fucking sick people

I rather die than lettin you do what you sick mind is telling you to do.

all i have to say. LIVE FREE or TRY DYING.

If you aren't free, try dying. Solves freedom problems since 65 million years.

And remember aswell as 50 said "get rich or try dying". If you don't get rich, try dying.

This was a small-community game. All of a sudden you and hundreds of thousand others who never even played the mod, decide to buy it in EARLY ALPHA, and expect to have a game you'd actually enjoy playing? This game is catered to "us", not to "you".

I stopped reading when you suggested a "skillful fire fight" should exist in DayZ.

You're playing the wrong game.
