I wanna be a medic!

Recommended Posts

I remember seeing a topic a while back that goes into detail of how to become a good medic. In RL I like to think I am a kind-hearted person, and wanna transfer that to this game. I have been playing for 2 weeks, and have come across loads of people, and I can say with hand-on-heart, I not even raised my fists, its not in my nature, unless in self-defense, or course.

Can some nice person help me out here?

Regards...

Dress for succes!

Match your gear in red and white colours and always hand carry a med-kit.

As for weapons, at most an axe for zombie defence.

Try to stock up on various medical stuff, like saline bags and IV kits.

I can't guarantee your survival, but this is what I would do.

I think that's awesome. I like the idea of being a go-to guy for medical treatment. There are a lot of video's popping up on how to treat sickness and injuries in game. I would start there.

Here's one about food illness. (bottom line, have charcoal tabs and blood bags)

You sound like a good guy to have on one's side. Good luck to ya!

PM me if you want my steam name. You sound like a good guy to know when he's in game/vice versa!

Your probably gonna die lots :P part of the job, but finding a team will help loads.

As a dayz medic my self I have my own set up:

Bright Clothes and no military helm. Don't make it look like your hiding , but still try to hide :P This way, if you are spotted, not being in camo may make people think twice before killing you (Based on my bobble hat mission)

Also I try to ware a respirator mask when I find one, but don't know how wise that it. I do it for the looks

I ware no guns on my back and keep my axe in my backpack, hoping I look more friendly.

Keep a pistol and 2 clips if you can. You may not wanna use them but if your a medic in a team, falling over dead wont help them. Also dying to be nice isn't a good ethic, cus then you cant help anyone.

Medic packs are good but yellow boxes are better. You only need so many pills and potions

Try to have

                vitamins

Bandage x5 (always on a hotkey)

Sticks for splints (dont pre make them)

Charcoal is important as well, but one pack over 50% will do

haven't seen pain killer tablets to be affective,

                Morphine

also as a medic, it good to have water and food, to get people healthy, so their blood will regen. I find this easier than blood bag/Blood tests.

So with the yellow boxes, you can put a mix of medical, water and food in each. Making survival packs.

All good info here. The main one is to have the Med Kit in hand whenever possible.

I don't go in for the bright clothes, somtimes it pays to be a bit circumspect in that regard. I'm happy with my black jeans and tee, bobble hat and a big red mountain backpack to carry my medical supplies. I've made one small change since this image was taken, in that I managed to find a badly damaged Tac Vest. Using that for the storage so condition is pretty much irrelevant.

I don't carry a gun, ammo or any of the accessories, but what I currently have in my backpack:

4x Yellow Containers

     2x Med Kit and Canteen

2x Med Kit and Bag of Rice

*A Bag of Rice and a clean water source seems to be the quickest way I've found to get to the 'Healthy' state.

2x Sticks for Splints and rags to make them up

2x Vitamins

Sundry other med items when available

Charcoal Tabs, Morphine, Epi, Sterile Bandages, Pain Killers, Alcohol, Blood Test Kits, etc.

Sundry Cans of food.

Note: I'm running with Med Kits WITHOUT Blood Bags. Hate those things and the evils they cause. Plus, if you haven't got a Blood Test Kit then you're more likely to make a bad situation worse. Usually I've replaced them and used the slot for storing a full Saline Bag in each kit.

I don't make house calls. I'm located at the Stary Sobor Supermarket on the Delicious Donuts server. That's my base and if you want to find me that's probably where I am (except for the few times I go down to the coast to visit family ;) ). I don't travel the countryside much, unless there is an immediate threat or pressing need somewhere close by. I don't tend to vist other servers too much as Work and RL mean that anything out of the Southern Hemisphere is pretty much not going to be conducive to arranging such a visit. So I tend to treat people without terminal conditions as they have to have been able to get close to Stary. There's the passing trade, but that is rare and infrequent.

In the down time, I run around Stary and grab anything usable and bring it to the supermarket. You've got to have a day job, right?

Good call on the saline kits. I should have said that myself instead of blood bags...

Is the goal to give medical aid and food to those who KOS?

No, the goal is to treat the injured and save lives. Not to discriminate, or be judgemental

I'd like to know more too. Though I'm not the hero I used to be :P

I know the thread you mean but I'm too lazy to find it.

It would be quite interesting to play as a medics support person as well

Trusted Medics of the Wasteland offer training in the trade, available to everyone, not only TMW personnel, if you're interested in more in-depth experience. just post a training request at http://tmwdayz.com/

if you want to assist people in the SA, you should definitely check (TMW)Merinos video guides (if you havent already) to brief you on the mechanics of health, nutrition, blood and poisoning, those are pinned in the New Player Discussion subforum and offer invaluable info
