Question about FPS and Performance? Sorry =(

hyperthreading should improve gaming performance for games that use more than 4 cores...

 

dayz doesnt use more than 4 cores...very few games in 2013 even used HT

Most modern games will get a performance increase from HT and some won't get any benefit - but DayZ seems to be crippled by it.  Something isn't right.

I feel quite stupid about this...

 

I checked my drivers, all were fine. Checked BIOS, all good. Checked Power options. I noticed that I was running the Power Saver preset.

 

So, naturally, I put it on High Performance. Started up DayZ. Slow, to begin with...but then I got in-game. Wow....no lag whatsoever. I'm now running a happy average of 40FPS.

 

EDIT: I just looked down, and got 120FPS.

I also have a GTX 690 and its a great card. But only 1 of the gpu's is working for Dayz so it runs pretty crap at 2560x1600. Either nvidia or dayz need to get that sorted. While they slowly update Dayz SA maybe try Arma 3 - Breaking Point mod. Both gpu's run close to max, get smooth 60fps and BP has lots of guns, vehicles, tents, zombies etc :)

One thing is use Fraps or Dxtory to keep track of fps, i wouldn't try guessing. Using -winxp bumped me up from 37 to 42 fps looking over Zelenogorsk.

Win7 64bit. I verified it multiple times. Another guy reported 20fps increase, but i assume that was a rough guess.

what does the -winxp parameter do exactly?  does it degrade the image quality at all?

No, i mean using the "launch options", within steam. Right click "DayZ" in the library menu and select launch options.

 

One big problem with this btw, you can't alt-tab out and back in or it crashes i think.

 -winxp Doesn't work for me, I get a CTD on boot up and an error saying: Device Reset Failed. =(

 

Was worth a go though.

Forces the use of an older version of directX

as far as I remember

 

This is physical cores not virtual -cpucount= 

 

These two values can be lowered to help with fps sometimes (in the C:\Users\YOU\Documents\DayZ folder in the .DayZProfile  file)

viewDistance=####;
preferredObjectViewDistance=####;
 
where #### is a numeric value
Bear in mind that a minimum I think should be 1k as that seems the distance an other player is first rendered with the bubble system.
Lower than that and you risk them seeing you but you unable to see them.
The above is unconfirmed by a dev as of yet.
 
Using -winxp might (I am unsure) also make you use less memory because of the -winxp mem limit thingy.

Well as -winxp didn't work and I've tried all the other tweaks such as the -cpucount= Steam commands and the DayZ.cfg tweaks, viewdistance e.t.c..

I tried running DayZ with HyperThreading Disabled as a few people seem to think that HT hurts the performance on the SA.

My results were, no difference, possibly actually reducing performance by a frame or two, but I will put that down to margin of error.

 

Oh well, all these tweaks were worth a shot. Guess I'll just have to live with it until it starts getting some optimisation.
