Ear plugs for firing guns or else you get a loud ringing in your ears

Recommended Posts

Already a function km Arma2. It is included with the ACE Mod. Also firing off a weapon close to a buddy could bust his ear drum. It's an awesome feature.

I agree. Don't see why it would be too hard to implement.

You can pretty safely fire a weapon outside without ear protection, it's only when you start shooting indoors where the sound reverberates that you'd start running into issues.

Hasn't been my experience with assault rifles. They hurt my ears pretty bad. .22 is pretty quiet but even 9mm gets pretty loud.

Just my two cents, but its not necessary. In a real world high stress environment you're going to have auditory exclusion to include tunnel vision, yes there is training for this, but until you've experienced it you can't truly know how your body will react. As for myself I would never wear earpro in a real world situation unless I have some MICH High-Noise Com headsets or the like.

sorry I went instructor mode there for a sec

Have a buddy fire a weapon right beside you. Next you your head. All you would be warriors would be singing to a different tune.

Been there done that got the t - shirt.

For gameplay reasons along with having an appropriate amount of realism as dayZ calls for, I would like inside vs outside.

Maybe some enclosed areas like tight backyards/ streets of Churno/ Elektro you get a bit of temporary hearing damage, but no where near indoors.

Ear protection should definitely be item, from standard plugs and protectors to military quality protectors

that are electronical and muffs out the loud noises and has volume setting if you wish to hear everything

around you slightly louder then you normally would (useful if someone is sneaking up on you).

Since this is video game the hearing damage should be temporary, rather then becoming deaf completely

if not wearing ear plugs.

What kind of a maniac would wear earplugs to restrain his hearing? I'm sure if Russians wore earplugs during WW2 they would have lost.

There are ways to hold your head when firing a gun that drastically reduce the likelihood of causing ear ringing.

People whom do not wish to become deaf and if you do not wear it, then your going to "restrain" your hearing anyway

when your ears start ringing. Ear protection is pretty mandatory for military personnel now days.

Also what does World War 2 have anything to do with this?

Moderately sized assault rifles don't leave a ringing in your ears just by firing it. If it did, they wouldn't be used IRL. I have been on a firing line with 20 other people and no ear plugs and I could hear just fine. Now, I would like to have ear plugs for the sake of why not. But, if my ears started ringing after firing one shot, I would stick to melee.

Jesus christ you are fucking crazy, if not ringing you are seriously damaging your ears.

You get ear damage or ear pain whenever you fire a gun. The decibels are higher than what is safe for us.

Proximity to the muzzle is the thing here. If we get higher caliber weapons without ear protection, going permanently deaf from burst eardrums is a must.

My dad manned bofors in WW2, they didn't use ear protection and his ears bled on many occasions.

I mean if we're trying to be realistic.

I want to have in the game.

LOL, you cannot fire guns outdoors safely.

Indoors is FAR MORE DANGEROUS than outdoors, doesn't mean you it isn't dangerous.

Yes you can. Jesus I think we have a safety freak here.

I know how to make this fit in.

  • Not needed for small handguns unless firing multiple bullets quickly
  • If you leave them in you can't really hear much so players or zombies could sneak up behind you
  • After each fight you have a chance of losing them if they are in your ears at the time
  • Mostly found in military areas or gun shops

Firing guns outside-no need for earbuds, indoors is a must, unless u want to permanently damage them.

And speaking from my own experience, only thing that left a scar on my hearing is a freaking RPG, thts right, AK`s and LMG are fine, as long as you are firing, and not like sticking your head right infront of the gun. So you can get the indoors ringing effect, if someone shoots over you, while you crouch, or lie down.

Also, if the wind is in your face, the gunpowder is sprayed in your face, obscuring your vision, true story, will never forget that freaking firing range))

Yes, if you're firing .22LR. If you're firing anything bigger, you'll notice effects pretty quickly, and your hearing will start taking some damage long-term. It's much worse standing next to the firer, though.

This thread has crazy people, firing guns outdoors like it's nothing.

Wait a few years and you'll regret it.

I'd love to see that as a feature, however this game is already so far from realism that we probably won't see this implemented.

if you be banditing nonstop, shooting rambo style, more bullets more chance to hit something, then yes. fire a couple of chots now and again, no probz, unless its something heavu ofc. I imagine even 1 shot from the infamous 50cal would leave you semi def for a while)

Hello there

I too like the idea.

I would like weapon handling to be far from the akimbo AKs whilst leaping through the air as much as possible.

Guns are LOUD, surprisingly so for those unused to it and dependent on the load/calibre etc can vary hugely.

Id like to see possible temporary ear damage al la A.C.E.
