Phalanx102 59 Posted January 11, 2014 I've never played the mod before, I only have 2 friends that I've played with as well and neither consistantly and I wanted to get some honest opinions and stories from others. So I've been playing DayZ for seven days and I've died 5 times, 3 of those within a 3 hour period. I've been sniped, beaten, eaten, axed, and funny enough literally chased until I passed out and killed. I love the thrill of not having a weapon at all, sneaking behind zombies and trying to avoid bandits until I can get myself supplies. I love the power that a gun provides you with; the safety, the intimidation. My current character has survived for the last 4 days straight, a personal record (lol). I've held people up at gunpoint with no ammo, I've also provided a random person with supplies, still at gunpoint. My personal agenda is to provide as much help as I can to the survivalists, and to kill as many bandits and ill-will players as I can lay my grubby hands on. As far as gameplay goes I'm very impressed but I see so many things that even in Alpha need to be immediately addressed aside from the standard combat logging, server jumping, hacking bullshit. Zombies need to be far more plentiful, need to spawn on player proximity, and NEED to be fixed. It's just a huge survival aspect lost when you can't close a door on a zombie, or when you can clear a town in under 5 kills for the next 4 hours. Melee combat also needs to be fixed, when I've been "alive" for under 10 minutes, just found my first baseball bat but I die because none of my hits on that zombie that just popped through a wall register, it makes me far more irritated than if I had died to a legitimate cause, and I know people agree with me. Also, I understand that this is a standalone, separate from the mod and there is a lot missing but when are we going to get specific descriptions of content updates? I'd like to know what to look forward to, what to criticize and what to leave alone until a later date. Yes, I'm new. Yes, I might be putting my foot in my mouth. Hopefully you just love me and give me beans.

Ubernaut 297 Posted January 11, 2014 My best advice to you is to lurk the forums more and read everything the devs post. Listen to the interviews, watch the YouTubes. I mean, unless someone here has the time to separately type out all the things that are expected to happen with DayZ... There's plenty of resources already online if you're really curious. Try www.dayzdb.com.

Dchil 829 Posted January 11, 2014 So I stuck my foot in my mouth?I wouldn't say that, but you have said that certain things need to be fixed, which Rocket & Co. are already working on.
Phalanx102 59 Posted January 11, 2014 I wouldn't say that, but you have said that certain things need to be fixed, which Rocket & Co. are already working on. I've just found it hard to find a real report on the small specific fixes, but I've used my noodle a bit and been less bullheaded in the last hour and found at least a couple answers I was looking for. Also wanted to get opinions on what everyone's least favorite bugs are.
korpisoturi (DayZ) 127 Posted January 11, 2014 Protip:1.Find fireaxe and only fireaxe as melee weapon, kills players and zombies on one hit.2.When Fireaxe equipped, keep it at "lowered" stance not like its keeping it up on your face.3.Check that you have enough roof to swing it. Either outside or find a place inside which has some room. ( walls, roof, etc as far-away as possible)4.You can walk backwards when zombie is chasing you, this makes it to line up nicely for your hit, when ready stop(or walk at it) and waste that fucker And thats how you kill zombies with melee without taking damage

Ranadaine 35 Posted January 11, 2014 Hmmmm... Am I making things up, or the zombies started to have more respect to walls and fences since the last patch? On some occasion they even followed me upstairs using stairs (not ladders), actually.
