There are 2 types of people - those that server hop, and those that lie and say they do not server hop.

:D

That's not entirely true.

There's some people that enjoy playing the game and just do that instead of server hopping to get 1337 gear and pwn all n00bz.

Never.

I'm more than happy with the way the loot spawns currently, it adds a nice desperation to the game which I enjoy, and feel that, except for balancing and tweaking it is more than fine for loot to only spawn on server restarts.

If you can't find loot you are not looking hard enough, in reality it would be just the same, get off the coast and explore, there is loot everywhere.

if i cant find something i need then ill hop, the spawns are a bit whack so if you get into a 30 man server you cant expect to find everything you need

I don't hop to get loot, as exploration is the main reason I play the game. I like to go inland and visit towns door-to-door, while killing zombies. For me, the thrill is to explore, walk around and meet other survivors unexpectedly. If you hang out at popular places, like the elektro firestation, you're guaranteed to meet players at regular intervals, which takes away the element of surprise.

Besides that, I'm pretty loyal to a certain server as I know the admin and a few of my friends play there. However, sometimes I do use other servers if the connection is unstable.

I hop from time to time i like to watch the people in the server to make sure i'm not near the top of the list after 10 minutes, as i figure if i've moved from 30-40 to in the top 10 longest players in 10 minutes then obviously it's all hoppers and no one really playing the game and if i am near the top i change server but never within a loot area and if i'm close i generally move on seeing i had already looted it (sometimes not always haha) still i did no; even though i don't think it's that black and white as i consider the term 'server hopping' to be intent to exploit the game.

The first time I played my son was watching.... I had a can of beans and no can opener.... Was running around starving.. he said " why not just log off and go to another server"

I told him, "This is my story if I die of hunger, I die of hunger"

That ist he way I look at the game...they ares tories, stometimes full of adventure, sometimes passing out just feet away from the town church with a can of unopened beans in your hands.....

No I do not server hop.

Exactly, sometimes you will find what you are after, sometimes you won't, as you say that is all part of each characters story.

The uncertainty of it all is part of the attraction for me.

guys server hopping is fine, because they refuse to implement proper loot spawn timers...or add the 5 minute delay between switching servers...like wtf do you expect.

people need loot, people gonna hop

once they fix the mechanic of loot spawn it would instantly slow server hopping. there would be less point to server hop if you knew loot would respawn.

to completely eliminate it, add the 5 minute server change timer...not too bad of a wait and it works (BP a3)

I server hoped quite a bit initially, and to farm loot. But not to gear up and hunt bambies. Or bandits. Or ANYONE for that matter.

I did it as a learning/testing experience. I learned quite a bit:

what types of loot spawn and where and with what frequency.

What buildings have multiple floors, and to stay away from the walls in those buildings for fear of clipping through them and falling to my death.

General exploration.

But after all that, I'm just playing the game now. Once I get to that point where I consider myself "kitted out" it ceases to be about exploration and PVE (not enough to do in that area, atm), and becomes more about interaction with other players. Weather that means killing them, helping them, or helping them and THEN killing them, depending on my mood. I generally try to play a friendly character, but friendly also doesn't mean STUPID. If I find you as a fresh spawn, I WILL give you food and water, but I will ALSO do it with my gun in your face.

Proper loot spawn as in loot magically spawning like in the mod? The results of this poll are just sad.

Yes, sometimes. But you know how it is..

People kos, so you kos them first..

People use 3PP to ambush you, so you use 3PP to counter their ambush..

And then you play for a while, walk a lot, found a military building with 2 zeds JUST in front of the door, you kill them, open the door, walk in and found only empty clips and some random residential crap.. So you hop 1-2 times and continue your journey..

I do not combatlogoff since i usually avoid people, so if they just vanish, i can't care less.

I feel dirty now, i will jump from the tower of green mountain to purge my sins, see you on the coast.

Never. I don't play to gear up and PvP and enjoy having to scavenge for supplies so I have no need.

That so many people do server hop just to get geared up quick is one reason I've not played for almost two weeks.

as long there is no loot respawn i will server hop :/

dont know why i should run 30 minutes to another place if there is the chance that someone looted it already 2 mins ago.

B is kinda the point of the game and the reason why they're experimenting with no loot respawn system in the first place. Is the game only fun with guaranteed loot at the same location every time?

There not experimenting, they cant have zombies and loot respawning because the servers cant take it at the moment. loot respawning is coming dont kid yourself

what he said ^

but realistically they could have put a server hop timer since day 1!  would have even helped with server load

What's fun is camping a hot spot and kill hoppers. THAT is how to get some sweet loot and discourage hopping at the same time. If you camp a barracks, you will see people come out that never went in - that is your target!

Yes they are. There will be changes to the loot spawn system but it will be in the spirit of the SA system, not the one in the mod. Rocket has confirmed this himself. It's pretty disappointing how many people play this game as a shopping simulator expecting to be rewarded with gear just because they walked 10 minutes to get there :/

I have server hopped for loot mabye 3 or 4 times in the 39 hours I have been playing Day Z. The only time I ever server hop is for loot.

The first time I ever server hopped was I think on my first day of day z in one of the Elektro Apartment buildings looking for loot. Another was at Green Mountain looking for an M4 (second day), and since then i have server hopped once at Novy Sobor when I was in a server with really bad lag and it was making it incredibly difficult to loot due to the amount of zombies, and once at Vybor.

The people that voted no, are called liars.

The people that voted yes, are called honest players.

Deal with it people, people will server hop to get better gear. The game literally encourages it.

It depends on what you claim to be server hopping. I've done so on a couple of occassions, most of the time it has been because I've been lagging on the server or it has just been weird in one way or another and when I haven't felt like playing during night time. I don't always enjoy the night time, sometimes I think it's fun - but it all comes down to my mood.

One time I've been server hopping for loot, or rather... I was server hopping to see if the damn deer stands actually spawn loot or not. Still haven't been able to determine if they do or not, but not a single deer stand I've visited has had loot of any kind. So do they? Spawn loot I mean. Other than for above said reasons, no.

Just to find a server that has some visibility. Normally when I log into the last server I was on and its terrible dark, I try for a bit but end up changing servers when my head lamp has been beaten off me by the invisible zombies that can see just fine.
