How low can someone get (Ghosters)

Recommended Posts

After our group got instakilled after a server restart we went towards electro and met up there, suddenly someone with an m4 was shooting from the rooftops of a factory next to the northern firestation. He killed 2 of us, then logged. One of us was on that roof when he rejoined the server but he instantly logged again when he saw my friend armed with a wrinchpipe. After 5 mins he logged on our server again, this time safely on the sniperhill killing us unarmed people with the m4.

Seriously. How low can someone get.

The question is, what were you guys doing in elektro, knowing that there's a person out to get you? Until it's fixed combat logging is annoying but nothing that a bit of unpredictability can't fix.

Well we had nothing to loose and we tried to take revenge of his courwarded act of shooting fresh spawns. There's nothing more satisfying then knocking people like this out with ur fist and putting a bullet in his head from his own gun. But combatlogging AND ghosting unarmed people is something worthy of a topic.

Yeah, but there's already been loads of topics, not to say its not an issue anymore though...private hives will make a big difference. at least in a person's ability to flank by hopping on another server, then back to the original one. Combat logging will ALWAYS be an issue..I think.

How can you know it was the same guy? :S

I think a cooldown timer between joining servers needs to be added though. 10-15 minutes would make all the difference in the world to ghosters. Assuming it was the same guy - it would have taken him 10-15 minutes before he could have even started making his was towards sniper hill and once he got there another 10-15 minutes before he could switch back to the original server, and this wouldn't be a huge inconvenience to people who need to connect to different servers for legitimate reasons.

That would absolutely kill the ghosters ability to ghost.  I support this.

If you're still in the same spot after 10-15 minutes, you're DayZing wrong.

Yes, needs to be a timer to prevent server hopping/ghosting

Also needs to be a 10 second logout timer which makes your character sit down (kind of like wow) so when someone tries to combat log, you can visibly see them sit down and they will be vulnerable for those 10 seconds. All of a sudden it's a bad idea to combat log when being held up, they see you're trying to weasel out and just kill you.

The timer should take into account whether a player has joined a different server in the meantime:

Leaves server A, joins server B, can't rejoin server A til timer's finished on that server.

Otherwise it punishes players that might have an innocent disconnect and be able to rejoin their buddies for 15mins (thus holding them up whilst they wait or making them all leave the server to join a new one)

How about some logoff sound? Its purely annoying to corner somebody and as you wait for squad to pindown the building dude inside logsoff and you have no way of knowing before assault the building.

People like this are annoying too. I wonder what will happen if they are admin of the DayZ boards.

Mad because you got outplayed?

Someone abusing game mechanics to get an upper hand isn't out-playing someone. If you could do the same WITHOUT logging off the server, then yeah I'd be impressed and say they got outplayed. Any kid with downs can log off, flank their opponent, log back in and kill them... that's not outplaying that's akin to cheating.
