Battleye over VAC?

Recommended Posts

Serious question.

I had totally thought standalone was going for VAC for the servers. Why Battleye?

From my experience, Battleye is balls deep in poop when it comes to actually catching people cheating. It's horrible. Even for ArmA it hasn't been all that great.

So what's the deal? Did Valve or Bohemia not agree to something? Am I the only one who has had bad experiences with Battleye? Some kind of deal with sticking to simple coding?

Unsure on the exact path on time stamps hopefully there will be both.

Target Delivery: Late 2013

We are working on additional anti-hack to supplement the implementation of VAC. We have been working closely with Valve for VAC as well as our other anti-hack partner. Details of this will be released shortly. The most important thing to remember is that anti-hack is really the secondary defense - the primary defense should be good architecture. We have already identified (and fixed) several key vulnerabilities in the three days since launch. There are more we know about and I am sure more we don't. The purpose of this early phase of alpha is to identify and fix those. As our architecture now relies on the server controlling and adjudicating everything, we can close off locally controlled functions and back doors - which is what we have been doing.

I know this was posted on 01-04-2014 on the main BE site

Bohemia Interactive a.s. has contracted with BattlEye Innovations to integrate BattlEye into its popular DayZ standalone game released just a few weeks ago.

It's important to note that like in Arma 3 the removal of cd-keys from DayZ will mean that BattlEye is finally able to effectively ban cheaters from the game.

So you encourage people to never stop to make war on BattlEye based, mostly, upon rumours that you yourself cannot tell are true or not?

--Edit--

Meant to post in "General Discussion".

I suppose it could qualify under server discussion too, but If a mod could move it I'd be apperciate it.

Both VAC and BattleEye are employed.

Please ask some private hack users about their preference (BE vs. VAC). If they are honest they will most likely give you a clear answer.

1st off BE is actually pretty good, its issue wasn't that it didn't catch cheaters because it did, but the Stolen CD key that were constantly flooding in to the hackers was a never ending battle now we are talking about steam controlled CD Keys the battleeye bans will be noticeable this time, team that with VAC it's a win win.

2nd don't listen to KOS it can cause seizures. just trying to get through his dribble requires the enigma machine.

Some say VAC sucks, some say PunkBuster sucks and some say BattleEye sucks.

Years ago I was somewhat close to the anticheat scene involving PunkBuster and some of its games, some of the private hacks remained undetected for a year or more, I don't know if it was a matter of them having too many games to support or deciding that the number of people using those private hacks isn't worth their time or what...

Same thing with VAC, some hacks remain undetected for a frickin long time, some are never detected.

What I'd like to see is detection methods for hacks that are totally private, exchanged between friends and closed communities or totally self made.

Since you are working in the anticheat business, what is your opinion on battle-eye screenshots (PBSS)?  There were blockers for punkbuster (black screen, custom pictures, desktop screen, picture just not received, screwing around with the data in the screenshot, hack visuals turned off etc.) With the release of windows vista and directx10 punkbuster screenshots somehow broke and I don't think they ever bothered to fix them. What is up with that? Need of elevated privileges in the OS to take them? Ease of blocking? It would certainly require a higher bar of entry for hack creators. Did they copyright the technique or something?

Thank you. And from Steak and Potatoes post I gather that they would complement each other - Battleye banning the keys in the process.

My question was answered. Still curious over how admin will work with the two, but I guess that will be at a later date

Battleye have a great history. but in dayz mod it was awful - its not due to the battleyeclient, rather the game architecture im sure.

Hello there

Im very glad BE is in. I want to be able to contact a human if in the tiny tiny chance i get a false positive.

There seems to be the occasional hiccup with installs, but they're sorted quickly and id rather have an install issue than scripters in game.

Rgds

In this case, we have double protection against Hackers.

VAC and Battle-Eye make a great combo in my eyes, VAC specializes in taking EXTREME prejudice against hacks that have already been done, tracking the person down, scanning them for any rule breaking modifications on the game and eliminating their access to official servers.

Battle eye does KIND of the same thing, but in real time as you play the game scans your PC for any data injection/script manipulation in the games client (and server) and instantly (if it detects an anomaly) either bans or kicks the player. (VAC has this functionality as well just pointing out that battle eye too does this)

You shall hear no complaining from me on this subject matter.

With the limited access hackers DO have to exploit the system, I believe the issue will be isolated enough that we won't have a widespread issue, there will ALWAYS be cheaters, and that is why there will always be peripherals like Battle eye and VAC to purchase to protect your software.

SOME may be harder to detect, hack wise but it's a game of cat and mouse and in this case, there are two cats and one mouse (per say).
