Ive played quite alot of chernarus.. not my favorite map but i have played it and know the basics from the mod etca.

First of all, in dayz i never tend to get a full map. its always some piece "sw" i get and never really the full version.

a full version of the map would take up as many slots as a motorcycle helmet. wich is strange.

And the compass is slow and clunky to use aswell as its hard to quicky see the directions.

So even with my average knowledge of the chernarus map i cant spare any space for it, maybe the compass for combat directions or directions to go. but not the map.... cause its faster to go 5 mins the wrong way than using it.

Takes too much space, and on my pc it takes more time to load in in game map then to alt++tab lol.

I don't bother with the map or compass anymore, after playing arma for thousands of hours you know exactly where you are and what you're near.

I think they should let the ingame character know where he is on the map, its not natural to pay attention to all the details when your playing on a screen and when you navigate IRL using a map and compass.

This. I am aware that it can be hard for new players to get a grip on learning such a big map and where things spawn but it just takes time and effort on your part to be aware of your surroundings and think logically.

Im just saying the gaming side of map navigation is not immersive to the real life navigation.

1. many locations look the same ingame, you have only a certain amount of trees, buildings etca.

2. rendering distance is not comparable to IRL

3. your dude is probably russian, but he doesnt understand russian signs if the gamer is not russian.

The time and effort lets you throw away the map, not use it.

I think if you dont use the map at all and learn it without a map you will more quickly learn your way around.

Im interested in how exactly the map is useful. why have it ingame if its useless

I heard somewhere that you could stick the map parts together in to 1 map but I can't figure out how to do it? Anyone know? Might just be people making stuff up

1. no 2 roadsign look same >:( some have direction/distance of next town also

2. is no relevant

3. part of fun is recognise place name, is same on map as sign which take me to next point

map is good for use because is say where is this place you find but don't recognise name from sign   ;)

map is good because it say this town is here and is mountain to north or airfield to east etc   ;)

map + compass + brain = NEVER LOST AGAIN   ;)

I just started playing, so I use the map quite often to get around. Mind you, not the in-game map pieces, I have my custom one on alt tab.

Every time I find a compass I'm really happy, since it allows me to keep off roads and move through the wilderness.

Not sure if a damaged compass can mislead you? I found one today, headed north and ended up closer to the east coast...

Could be just me though :D

2 tips:

- you can combine maps pieces so finally it will tak only one slot in you inventory (right click on map piece, you need to have adjacent map piece, ie: NW and SW)

- while running, you can open the inventory tab and inspect the compass, you will see your direction

You can add the map parts together, but look at the description when you want to know what part of chernarus it is for (some parts are mislabeled, i think SE = NE but not sure). Just drag a piece onto another and click combine map. It only works with 2 similar parts (ie NE and SE can attach but NE and SW can't) and two quaters make a half and 2 halves make a whole (so make either a N, W, E or S map and it's pair and then combine to get the whole map.).

Why do you quote me if you dont reply to the post?

Rendering distance is very relevant so you can see distant towns and mountains.

Maybe for you "map is good" but for me its better not to use it because its not worth the space it takes in my inventory. even if i took space for it i wouldnt use it..

So why do you use the map? what advantage does it give you using the map?

I've done a good bit of real world backpacking and navigation with map compass and topographic maps and let me assure it is far easier in dayz than in areal life.

While real life renders farther you rarely get the fields of view or number of clear land marks on chernarus. Trust me as far as real life comparisons and immersion go dayz is taking it easy on you.

As fair as individual maps go... In truth to get the kind of detail you can from only the maps in dayz you would need about 10 maps. You can zoom in and out for different levels of detail and gives you a huge field of view. Again dayz is taking it easier on us here.

That said I wouldn't mind being able to cut and tape them together for easy storage. As fair as maps go they don't take up a ton of room in your pack.

Also no I don't use the map in game but I don't use one to get around Baltimore either since I've learned my way around

do u got serious problems?

if u don't like the map then don't fkin use it, don't try to change the game cuz u can't handle it - if your to stup to navigate, learn it.

I think they should let the ingame character know where he is on the map, its not natural to pay attention to all the details when your playing on a screen and when you navigate IRL using a map and compass.

bs² - that, exactly that makes the game what it is

So you dont use the ingame map.

interesting...

Moste people do it like that or they use Phone,Tablet because ingame map is crap ;)

The entire handling of things Ingame is like peace of shit...always Tab -> Quikbar -> search Nr. press Nr. -> waiting

Special the compass first time "Tab -> Quikbar ->" then -> "search nr. press Nr. -> waiting -> switch Firstperson - Try to read compass.

I am sorry to say it but the entire use things system is totaly unnecessarily complicated. DayZ Mod handling was much much better!

System Fail!
