What random events would you like to see?

Recommended Posts

Ive been thinking a little about ways that you could be clued into random events. Circling birds, plumes of smoke from camp fires or burning vehicles and structures, explosions. Any others?

A zombie trying live a life.

Creep into a house at night or day to find a zombie, poking around at a cooker, a cupboard or a TV.

Zombies should be fixed before implementing such zombie hordes, imo.

After seeing the tents in Stary and Berzino removed,i got an idea. The quarantine tents should be a random event, having extremely good medical gear and lots of gear like hazmat suits. They would spawn random at one of the bigger cities at predefined places.

a lot of good ideas in here. I think these things could help the game become more dynamic and interesting

Seeing a lot of the same thing that's been confirmed as a no for standalone.

when did that happen?

Random ideas, some already mentioned but in favor:

1) Dynamic plane crashes in certain areas AND / OR just sightings. You see it but it may never go down or when you don't see it

2) Random supply drops by military / relief organization via chopper / plane in certain locations (why drop stuff in the middle of the forest unless announced or shown somehow)

3) Major urban areas being bombed via artillery (nothing too big, maybe mortar or similar). A siren would run for a minute or so as warning, people would have to get out or take cover in buildings

Advantage: Any of these are, to my knowledge, more or less easy to implement. A big gameplay impact with little effort. Yes, DayZ is what the players make out of it, but SOME "flavor" wouldn't hurt. The more the merrier.

Makes the world seem less static.

I would like the abilty to have optional missions around the map where you and others can attempt to do them such as restoring power to cities (there are power stations everywhere) and when you do so you have to hold off waves of hordes.

P.S the benefit would be that it would clear the city of zeds for awhile.

nothing but roaming zombie hordes, weather and seasons, snow and heavy rain.

Some of my ideas here.

I like the idea of random stashes or small bunkers in the wilderness. Places where early survivors tried to hunker down before eventually succumbing to the infection themselves.

Crashes vehicles of all sorts - grocer/food deliveries, ambulances/medical trucks, construction supply truck (like this bad-ass one here), just normal civilian vehicles, etc.

Various packs of zombies not tied to loot locations, just random roaming packs. Even small ones with 3-5 zombies would make running through the forests much more interesting, and make it harder to conceal your location effectively as you travel. It would also make silent weapons and melee weapons much more useful to kill quietly as you're traveling and don't want to be constantly announcing your location.

I would like to see random event like massive electric surge aim at combat logger pc >:(

Zombie hordes, although good to have, would be out of the processing league for too many people, I think.

Just thinking out loud, here, but you could simplify the AI a lot without it becomeing too apparent. Reduce the AI of all but one of the hoard to simply follow the leader and 'attack my target'. Basically all you want is for them to move towards and attack a single target.

I know, I can already see the 'exploit' from here, but it still might be doable with the limited processing resources that are available. And TBH, if you've got more than one survivor with you, multiple zombies aren't going to be a threat anyway.

no damn dynamic events...thats total bullsh1t

Considering the event type, you don't have to participate :)

At least I picture things like supply drops as random event non-intrusive in a negative POV. Then again I also see no problem with more "intrusive" things. Let's go extreme here and take sudden zombie groups in the forests or between cities, or short / medium artillery bombardment of a major city: If it comes down to it I see no difference between that and a group of players appearing.

It's just bad luck. Having certain events however makes things more dynamic. You never know out there...

It should simply not be forced by having players nearby. No "Player nearby, trigger event A" but it should be a global random chance to have XY appear at X.

What about a platoon of paratroopers dropped in (from a AC 130 flying above) with a team of scientists in hasmat suits (from some shady organisation) to collect some 'samples' of possible infected i.e us players!

There was a mod in the mod that had that. Epidemic, i think. A town would be bombed then the HAZMATS would move in with OP weapons and wipe the Zeds out of the town.

I personally don't think AI should be in SA though, becuase they're to easy to kill

Could make 'em unlootable or only drop generic / predefined stuff. Which may or may not be totally ruined as to prevent "farming NPCs", or at least "farming good stuff from NPCs". Sounds like a cool thing to witness though. And some more friendly groups could benefit from that by having temporary staging or relief points?

Just an example. I actually doubt we get to see that (at least in "vanilla") but I do admit that it would be nice to see.

DayZ takes place several years after the outbreak. Military got overrun, government pulled back into bunkers or is dead as well.

Rocket said in an interview that he only wants player caused events. (a player finds and repairs a vehicle, dies with it in a horrible accident near elektro, people find the wreck and enjoy the sight)

nothing more, nothing less.

IMO the chopper crashsites were really dumb. Hunting players that actually owned a chopper was fun though.

Just curious, is there a source for the exact or rough timespan?

It's pretty clear this isn't right after the apocalypse as most places are lost / abandoned, as one can clearly see in the game. And cars have been there some time. But "some years" seems a bit too much in my opinion. Considering certain loot spawns and / or item condition and personal flavor, I mean.

So far I assumed something in between. It's been some time ago, but not "ages". And even then one could still "justify" the named things due to intervention of other forces.

But I guess in the end it depends on the developers. Maybe it changes? And if not I'm sure some custom variant will incorporate that. But they are apparently planned, thus allowed. Quote:

Server Management Options

Target Delivery: Ongoing

Additional options for those hosting servers will be rolled out as soon as we can. We want to encourage a "hardcore" mode that will operate on a separate database, featuring things like first person only, no hide body, etc... In addition, we also want to provide passworded servers that will operate on their own shard of the database. This shard could be grouped, so that a group of passworded servers could operate on their own database. Eventually, we would like to see these different communities on their own db running their own variations of DayZ to meet specific communities needs.

So, apparently: If the Devs don't add certain stuff, custom servers or game variants probably can.

I always wanted to see way more randomization in the zombie placement. Instead of there always being roughly the same amount of zombies everywhere, it should be very random.

The same with loot spawns, you should have a random chance of finding a lot more, or maybe nothing. Consistently finding loot makes it less special.

I would love to see some very rare missions that are broadcast-ed throughout the radio waves if you have walkie talkie. Like very rare airdrop. Let's say once in 2-4 hours

A zombie horde that spawns in the town furthest away from all players in the game, and then walks towards the closest town with players near it, and continues to do so until all zombies in the horde are dead. Any wandering solo zombies that come within range of the horde join it. Starting size of the horde would be 15-20.
