DevilDog (DayZ) 455 Posted January 5, 2014 We all know many people don't like playing at night, it's dark and scary and you can't loot crap unless cheat or use a flashlight. I hope to see that change. We should experience all aspects of this game, not just the day. So here is what I would suggest (as if anyone important will read my little post lol). First standardize all main hive servers. No more 24/7 main hive servers.2- All the servers should be on the same day/night cycle. When it is night on one it is night on all. This will stop people from leaving cause it is night.3- Have a short day/night cycle. 4 hours for an entire day in game. So 6 game days in 1 real day.4- Have the day time last 3 hours and then the night last 1. If you can't last 1 hour at night before the sun starts to rise then too bad, go eat dinner.5- Eventually (it's alpha ;) ) have things like generators you can hook up to certain buildings, or power you can turn on (or shut off for the 'bad guys') to entire cities ect. I think this will force people to play at night and make it more interesting. (I didn't add the many things already suggested that I agree with like make it a bit brighter, stop the gama 'cheat' ect.)
creature 1189 Posted January 5, 2014 I don't play night servers right now because of the few people who CAN see without using a flashlight. It's not an even playing field atm.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted January 5, 2014 I enjoy playing at night, I just wish lanterns weren't bugged and 'break' every time I log out.
Karmaterror 982 Posted January 5, 2014 But but....24 hour cycle....realism....booooo! I can see the allure of a shorter day night but that's a real immersion breaker for me. 1 hour of night just dosent seem worth it lol. I like the idea of the servers being locked to all the same time, but yeah without the short day night its unfair on others. Grrrr theres gotta be a way to get em playing at night but keep immersion.....wait....private hives!! If your server was your home you would have no choice but to play at night. For me that's the best solution, make each server private and you cure night play, ghosting, server hopping, low pop gearing, (and with a good loot spawn timer) farming aswell. If they did add shorter cycle id say no shorter that 50% so 6 hours each 12 hour full day.
crazyandlazy 376 Posted January 5, 2014 Call me a pansy but I have to object. I already have enough heart throbbing as it is. No need for me to faint.
derpdiggler 69 Posted January 5, 2014 Daytime is a hell of a lot scarier than night to me. I love night time. "Ooooo, look someone is using a flashlight. I guess I better teach them why that's a bad idea." -- Me
fig0451 85 Posted January 5, 2014 I'd like to know if there is anything they can do to fix dynamic light sources projecting through objects (buildings) before I'd want to force people into night. That and, from my experience, everyone who plays at night just dials up their gamma and brightness, and if that doesn't work they just don't play on night servers as running around with a flash light is a giant 'please shoot me' beacon.Shorter day night cycles, having a loot system with respawns, penalties for hopping servers and fixing the bugginess with the lights going through objects will probably be enough to get more people playing at night. ratiasu@hotmail.co.jp 122 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Night-time only events. Like heli crashes, but only at night. And obviously something that actually makes sense to be a night-time only thing. Stuff related to the tides? Nocturnal animals? less perceptive zombies, temperatures that vary during the year. Summer days being very hot and difficult to get around with with heavy gear, but the lower temperatures of the nights could make it bearable. Oh, I got it... Boat crashes! After all, lighthouses aren't working anymore, and this would normally only be an issue during nighttime or severely bad weather. You know... Stuff like that. Oh, and fireflies. <3 ^^ Edited January 5, 2014 by Ratiasu
Ken Bean 175 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Night time is different from daytime and I love it. I don't see it as problem that not everyone likes it too. I also don't have a problem with other folks prefering daytime. It makes it very realistic, that the server is not crowded with the usual DayZ population at night. It's nice and awesome the way it is. Please don't try to force the community to play at every time. And for the love of god don't speed up the time, like having 4 days in one. This is something that also makes Dayz so outstanding, that they really use real time. Edited January 5, 2014 by Ken Bean
