Is it possible to destroy items? (duping)

Recently i have had some issues with unwanted duping. Not wanting to take advantage of the bug i usually just leave the items. But other people tend to find the items and use them against me. 

 

So i am wondering if, when i accidentally dupe, if there is some way to destroy the items?

You could try dropping it in the ocean or a lake.

If it's the glitch where a clone of yourself appears, just kill it and hide the body. That's what I always do when that happens.
