I think you can use "f" whilst the torch is in your hand.

Not sure about headtorch though :)

but headtorch is one I using more

I like the idea of having to open inventory to do it, as with lots of things. It compensates for the groping to find the button in the dark and taking a hand off the weapon to do it. If you've got one hand on your head when someone jumps at you, you would hardly be able to unload on him less than half a second later. 

 

Anyway thats just me. Some quicker way through the inventory (like not having to right click) would be good.

Get batteries first. Load them in to the light source. Use scrool menu or manual turn on/off from tab view.

Did you remember to put batteries in ;p

But seriously. F seems to work for me. When torch is in your hand, try moving the scroll wheel and there might be an option in top left, highlight it and press on scroll wheel :)

F works for me for handlight (flashlight or gas lamp),  it display on screen "turn on" / "turn off" options, pressing F a second time switch on/off the light

but the hotkey don't work for rifle attached flashlight, it's a knownbug ;)

If you have the flashlight in hand you have to also 'ready up' the flashlight with spacebar then hit F to toggle it on and off.

You are right, 'flashlight = certain death'. But for whom? That's the question, right there!
