The magnum is a little too common now

Recommended Posts

As I'm running my most enjoyable loot route today, I noticed something disturbing.  There were 357s EVERYWHERE.  The firehouse at the NW airfield had 5 of them in one room.  Considering the 357 ammo is less plentiful than shotgun ammo, wouldn't it be better to tone down the spawn rate?

Does anyone know how to throw 357s at people?  I know they're relatively heavy, so it should hurt a bit.

Replace the gold coins with 357s and you have me.

What good is a .357 if you don't have a speed loader or ammo for it...? I've found one speed loader in my 40+ hours of playing. You waste your six shots your dead, doesn't matter unless you load all 8 .357's you're carrying. It is an alpha mate give it time rocket has a plan

They up the spawn rates when they implement new guns. Because testing. Because Alpher.

well, then do what you like to do and take them all, then throw somewhere, isnt that what you love to do?

It's an alpha, m4s are way too common too, there's  no point in making threads like this.

If the spawn rate is so high to encourage testing, then should the ammo spawn rate be increased?  I think the 357 is more common than rotten fruit right now.

I don't need to dump 357s.  They're far too common, and the ammo is far too rare.  I don't typically dump 45s either.  I usually just hang onto the mags to distribute and take the ammo.  In case you're wondering, I dumped about 400+ rounds of 556 in the woods today, and left several magazines in a bush in the middle of a field.

You can look at this two ways.  There's the way that it's intended and the way most people see it, but can you imagine what it would be like for someone to come upon a huge pile of supplies hidden in a pine tree?  That lucky guy would feel like he won the lottery.

Just like has been said before, the only reason the guns are common is because of how few there are, and for testing them. They want feedback on the weapon's performance and any glitches that may occur with animations, scripts, models, etc. Then, once the full-game is released and we have a substantially large number of guns, I'm sure the spawns that need toning down will be toned down accordingly.

That's wonderful that they make them so common, with the intent of having them get tested, but the lack of ammo makes them difficult to test.  Let's not pretend that 357 ammo isn't the rarest ammo type.

There is some truth to that, I have magnum and had just 2 bullets. 1 was wasted on zombies to test if gun works.

I keep the last one for myself...

Guns or items are pretty common because they need testing. I think later on game is going to be really hard and items are rare.

^ This.

I'd bet that every new gun we'll see high spawn rates on for a while.  This makes sense because they'll want to see a lot of rounds go down range for testing purposes.  So do them a favor, and get out there and sling some lead!!

Magnum rounds are really rare.  Since the patch, I've found maybe 50ish (I'm trying to estimate with accuracy) magnums, but only 5 rounds.

From my experience they upped the ammo spawn rate for Magnums when they added the Magnum to the loot table.

Agreed, I found 7 magnums in the NWAF fire station yet not one single bullet throughout the entirety of NWAF. Not wanting to server hop but wanting to test the thing.

M4 is still more common.. Anyways, why are we discussing loot distribution when 90% of the loot isn't in game yet?

Because 357s are about as common as cans of soda, but the ammo is less common than shotgun ammo?

First off in terms of realism, does it make more sense that fleeing survivors would take 6 Magnums with them, or load their pockets with ammo?

Second, *you* cannot find the ammo.  Two days ago I gave my buddy a loaded magnum and 40 extra rounds.  Yesterday I found another 30some before my character got reset.

Clearly you're fortunate on the 357 ammo front, as I'm not the only one with the issue finding 357 ammo.  Yes, I haven't been to Balota in ages.  I spend my time up north.

So when you say 357s you mean the gun not the ammo? You confused me.

As for the ammo, it is quite small and quite easy to be overlooked. You have to really pay close attention to every corner of the house. I have found around 100 .357 bullets in civ houses, and I can't call myself a thorough looter.

I'm thorough.  I pick up all the ammo I see, save for shotgun rounds, to dump in the woods.  I actually dumped a full ammo can today, because I'll likely never use the ammo from the 3 full ones I have or the mags that I have.

I'll just have to keep looking.  Maybe I'll find a treasure.  The guns are plentiful to the point that you can trip over them.  The ammo seems scarce in comparison.

I haven't found a single gun since I've been playing. Admittedly, I haven't survived long enough or made it up north where the good stuff is, but still....
