chewythefirst 10 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) so i have a guy up in the north airbase, i ran there with friends but they are on every second day if not every thrid day. i like to play more offten than that and would like some one elsse to run about with, do some solo action. having 2, 3 or even 4 characters to choose from would be handy.what do you guys think?Edit* something I came up with as well to prevent abuse of the multi character. They could split the servers into four regions, EU, American, Russian, and well what ever they want to call the rest of the world.By doing this you could have four characters and have each one locked to just that region. This would prevent anyone using one of there for holding gear or never losing gear.So tell me all what you think of that? dromagewok@hotmail.com 164 Posted January 3, 2014 Join the DE Experimental servers, they're on a separate hive and act as a second character.

Mooneg 0 Posted January 3, 2014 yes, that would be nice, but people will say no because of realism and stuff like that
dromagewok@hotmail.com 164 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) cheers thanks for that i will try it now :) Remember to update to the beta (And downgrade when you go back to the older version servers) In steam to upgrade right click on DayZ -> Click Properties -> Click "Betas" tab -> select "experimental" in the dropdown box. It will download a small update and then you will be able to play in the experimental server without much trouble. To downgrade just click opt-out and it will restore your version to the latest public version. Have fun! Edited January 3, 2014 by dromag67
Goodwin- 9 Posted January 3, 2014 Private hives will do this in the future. No need to have multiple characters in the selection screen imo.
hogscraper 328 Posted January 3, 2014 No. It would cause more problems than it would fix. Dayz has always been about having to put in effort to get where you want to go. You decided to play every day so you need to decide whether or not a twenty minute walk is worth playing with your friends when they eventually log in. We will have vehicles eventually so this really is just a temporary problem anyway. The problems that arise with multiple characters is that it completely changes the game for trolls. Lets say you and two friends are at NWAF when a larger group of people roll in. What happens if you each had four different characters, all geared and all in different places around the airfield? What's to keep you from logging out once you know where they are, logging back in and killing one or two from a distance. Logging in on another guy to kill a few more then back to your original character? Making choices that keep you from dying is a major part of the idea behind Dayz. What happens to that idea when people start making characters that don't ever move and exist only to hold a supplies? Like a tent that can't be raided it would break a huge part of the game.

phoboss 224 Posted January 3, 2014 Biggest problem would be exploiting the system. Let's say your main character is close to dieing for what ever reason. You log of, create a be one and run to the position of your main. There you log back in your main, die, and log back to the alt to collect all your gear. So no, no more than one character per hive.
fakeblood 2 Posted January 3, 2014 No as people would have storage chars if on the same hive.
bpostal 2 Posted January 3, 2014 This is one of the reasons I'm personally looking forward to release as there will hopefully be multiple hives. This should give me a guy to play with my friends with and a guy to run around solo with.If wanting to play this game with friends makes me a bad person then so be it. current1y 4 Posted January 3, 2014 http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156426-suggestion-multiple-characters/#entry1567105 has some peoples opinions.
Ghostflux 100 Posted January 3, 2014 I generally like the idea if there's some way to prevent several characters of the same player to spawn in the vicinity of eachother. Imagine the following scenario: You're a bandit who camps a high traffic area to kill people, let's say you fail to notice somebody and he shoots you. You then immediately log in with another character to get revenge on the guy who shot you. Not very fair for that other person in my opinion.
Slyguy65 499 Posted January 3, 2014 No, if we give people multiple characters they will just have YOLO characters and sniper characters and hermit characters.... The whole point of the game is to value what little you have...you have to CHOOSE what you will be, you don't get to have everything.
ImageCtrl 719 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Private hives are confirmed. You get many characters in the future. Only one per hive. Rocket:"We want to allow private hosting, which includes passworded servers, but we are finalizing changes to our database that will allow us to run a little data instance just for that server. This gives the best of both having a database and having a private community, without those private communities affecting the main database." Bakercompany86 347 Posted January 3, 2014 I would like to see multiple characters for a few reasons. As long as they don't exist on the same hive (which is mentioned above as confirmed). When I log out with my buddies, I won't want to have to move that character just to play the game. A minor inconvenience I know, but that's why this is just personal opinion.
teufel937 49 Posted January 3, 2014 I say no it would just influence people to server hop more, and camp loot spawns, they would use one basically as pack mule or a "backup" full of top gear just in case... bad idea... bad bad idea.

If you do make sure you actually help them test what they need to test and just don't go running around doing whatever you want to.
