Solopopo 330 Posted January 2, 2014 So I get a red message on my screen saying that no messages had been received from the server. I've seen this message many times before so I just did what I always do when I see it: log out and back in. My character spawned at the beach with nothing. I had pretty much everything a player could want except the Mosin, and I mean everything. I had every attachment for the M4 in pristine condition, including the close and long range scopes, both handheld firearms fully functional, full ammo box, full medkit, 40 round mags for my M4, fireaxe, tactical vest, ballistic helmet, gasmask, functional cooking stove, and enough survival supplies to make it all the way across Chenarus and back twice. Can this just happen at any time? I'm not entirely sure I want to play anymore knowing that, and that's a shame because I was having a blast. I can't believe how much of my life I just sunk into this game to have everything disappear. So many close calls, so much epic loot. I know we all agreed that there would be problems that would get in the way of our gaming experience, but what the hell. I was not expecting this. Can we get a warning or something when stuff like this is going to happen? I've seen in other forums that they inform people on Twitter when they are doing database maintenance. Would it be so hard to give us a warning in game? Something to the effect of, "if you sign on during the hours of x and y, there is a risk that you will lose all of your items" Is that so much to ask for guys? Common. combatcomm1 234 Posted January 2, 2014 You said you had end game gear. Congratulations. Now you get to do it again. It's like the game knew you had everything and so was nice enough to help you start over.
MuchHigher 65 Posted January 2, 2014 There are going to be Character wipes constantly during the Alpha process. They made this clear many times.

floj 393 Posted January 2, 2014 Happened to me as well. I'm happy about it - was getting bored that I had nothing new to look for.
TheRealJaguarz 2 Posted January 2, 2014 Honestly, it's good to restart every once in a while because I get bored when I have everything after a while. Expect this when the game is in its alpha and beta stage.

Rgds LoK I'm talking about a warning that the databases are going to get wiped. Players that didn't log in didn't lose their stuff. You only lose your stuff if you're online when it's happening. This is something that could easily be avoided with a simple notification that maintenance is being performed. It isn't a glitch. It's just courtesy. Zeet. 101 Posted January 2, 2014 I walked out of a wall on the third floor of a hospital and lost hours of progression. Did it again. Good luck.

ninjacalypse 551 Posted January 2, 2014 So I get a red message on my screen saying that no messages had been received from the server. I've seen this message many times before so I just did what I always do when I see it: log out and back in. My character spawned at the beach with nothing. I've had that happen all the time with no character wipes. Wipes are usually due to server not updated to latest version, server desync with public hive or server not whitelisted by public hive. Find 5 or 10 good server where you have not experienced character wipes and favorite them. If you server hop excessively, your chances of being randomly wiped will be much greater. Don't get too attached to your gear. Character wipes regardless of a bug or not, are going to happen.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted January 2, 2014 Can we get a warning or something when stuff like this is going to happen? You do. Every time you log in to the game.

Expect this when the game is in its alpha and beta stage. Happened to me as well. I'm happy about it - was getting bored that I had nothing new to look for. I have to admit I was also getting a little bored now that I had most of the items, but that's only because there isn't much to do in the game as of now. I was gathering those items to find a good server to PvP in. I play the game to PvP. I would skip the farming if I could, at least at this stage in development. I'm not exactly looking forward to roaming miles and miles to find loot, because the world is pretty lifeless at the moment, especially in the northern sections of the map. Anyway, my point is that I would appreciate a little notification when maintenance is being performed that could result in lose of items on log in. Especially when a notification of the sort could stop it from happening. Oh well. You do. Every time you log in to the game. You get the same message every time you log in. How is that supposed to warn you about something happening at the moment? I'm talking about a circumstantial warning; one with recent, up to date, information. I guess stuff like this isn't their priority right now, but it doesn't seem like too much to ask. Edited January 2, 2014 by Solopopo

You want a message to pop up warning you when a bug is about to occur? Why would they do that instead of just fixing the bug?
floj 393 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) I heard it's a server update error...so it's not something that can be preempted and warned about Edited January 2, 2014 by phlOgistOn
nicolasvei (DayZ) 9 Posted January 2, 2014 I got an answer for ya, it happened to me several times after a server restart. Do not log instantly after, wait a minute. When I instantly join back the server who just restarted, my char dies. When I wait, it never happened to me. Maybe when we log too fast in a server that just restarded it cause this kind of bug, because it happened to me ONLY when I reloged too fast. I hope this is the answer you want to hear, sorry for the english, I hope you understand what I tried to explain to you :D
Timmymachine109 (DayZ) 235 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) It wasn't maintenance. The no message received thing is the server restarting, which they all have to in order to spawn more loot etc. it's just a bug at the moment with the alpha. Nothing you can do about it really. If this sort of thing annoys you a lot I'd hold off playing for a few months until the game is a little more stable. I will try that next time the server I am in resets. It wasn't maintenance. The no message received thing is the server restarting, which they all have to in order to spawn more loot etc. it's just a bug at the moment with the alpha. Nothing you can do about it really. If this sort of thing annoys you a lot I'd hold off playing for a few months until the game is a little more stable. If it happens again I will wait. The fear that items could suddenly vanish kind of deters me from trying to make the perfect survivor, which is what was motivating me to play. I was looking forward to making my way back to the coast and role playing a bit as a hero. It was finally time for me to head back from my loot hunt when my items got wiped. The farming is not particularly thrilling to me (although it will probably be more fun when more is going on in the game world). I see it as something to get out of the way, not something to be excited about doing, which sucks considering that it's 90 percent of what you do in standalone at the moment. Anyway, wish me luck. Hopefully Nicolasvei's suggestion works. Server resets are going to be pretty nerve-wracking from now on. Is there a way to tell when a server is going to reset so you can avoid being online during that time? Edited January 2, 2014 by Solopopo

DarthKramer 3 Posted January 2, 2014 when i see that message i exit and go into an entirely different server...what happened to you has happened to me twice. if i'm in a gameserverpro or gameproserver whatever it is and get that message, i don't chance on entering a different gamepro server. doing that, my character hasn't reset in five days of playing..and i'm studded out to the max.
