That's the first word I think of if an apocalypse were to ever bear down on our society.

No laws, no repercussions, no right or wrong. Just the dregs of human life trying to survive it. We may think 'humanity' will save us, but isn't it our own humanity that drove us here in the first place? Wars, suffering, cruelty and disease...the ever extending gap between the rich and poor. A never ending cycle of greed, deceit and warfare.

Where no one governs, we govern ourselves. Greed, humanity or just the balls to try and survive alone in an inhumane existence is all that can drive us to keep on trying no matter the cost.

This is my world. This is DayZ.

its not repercussions that stop me from wanton murder, its my own sense of morals.

i fear people who claim its only a higher power (law or god) that stops them from hurting others. they strike me as mentally imbalanced

If that were so, then we'd all still be where we started in the caveman times. There were no laws, no repercussions, no right or wrong then. But somehow, weirdly enough, everyone didn't just go killing everyone else, but slowly but surely civilisation evolved and grew.

Some reading of sociology never hurts before you go making such confident claims.

Anarchy is not no laws, it's no rulers. It means you work as part of a group and if you offend the beliefs and expectations of your peers in that tribe they'll boot you out (or shoot you).

your state is... I don't know, mental sickness? In an apocolypse, and in primitive times, your chances were a lot better if you were part of a tribe than a mongrel. And there's repercussions to every act of meaning.

I'm pretty sure I could go around beating up or killing random people without the cops catching me.

So why aren't I doing it?

And why are there so many soldiers coming back from war having psychological councelling because of the guilt and remorse?

Pretending most people don't go around killing each others because of the cops is a very weird (false) statement to make.

Totally agree with this.

Also, anarchy =/= chaos.

The works of Mikhail Bakunin should be mandatory reading in schools.

Morals are born from society, no? We've been conditioned to believe certain things are right or wrong because of our conditioned society. Don't get me wrong, the first time I KoS I felt pretty shitty for a couple of hours lol but this is because I've been taught killing is bad.

People say things like, being civil has got us to where we are today but where are we exactly? The large scale: we still kill other people for power. The small scale, we still troll people for power lmao. We are no more advanced in our modern world than we were in the stone age. A mod like this really highlights that fact

Why can't we all just get along :derp

If that's the case then I'd rather not associate myself with people....as I already do.

Anyone seen or read The Stand? Yes I know the tv series was lame as are most Stephen king adaptions but it's this depiction of a post apocalyptic world that I think of the most when I enter DayZ.
