thewolfpack 1 Posted December 31, 2013 Greetings fellow Survivors! DayZ is currently about the gear and not about the charater you play. - It doesn't matter if you die and you are a member of a large group, because they can just guard your corpse / loot you can equip your respawed char back. - New spawned chars just suicide attack, because they have nothing to lose, because they got no gear. Gear defines every ability you got in this game! --- A system like "survivor points" could prevent the gear / respawn problem by making it even more unattractive to die. Core system points: - You don't get survivor points by acting in the game, your char gets them by playtime like 1 point for every day you survived. With these survior points you can unlock "perks" for you char like for example: (just basic ideas) Iron Stomage - Decreased chance of getting ill by eating rotten stuff. (like -5%) Hardened - Decreased effects of thirst / starvation etc. So, with time you char gets slightly stronger, should be very slight bonus stuff ofc. --- How does that help? When you die you lose "survior points" - like 10% to 50% and some ramdom perks you unlocked. That means, you can't just suicide attack others, because you would not want to lose more points. On the other hand, you want your char to stay alive, because again you want to gather points. Server hopping would also be prevented, at least a bit, because there is a high chance you get killed and lose your survivor points. --- Level System: To unlock a perk you need like 7 points to unlock to first one and every perk you got, the points you need double: 14 28 52... If you get killed and you got 52 points, you would lose 26 and therefor you lose 2 random perks you unlocked / selected. Its a reward / punishment system. What do you think? Hate it / Love it? Tell me your ideas and feelings about this. Happy new year, thewolfpack
lundyhl@gmail.com 4 Posted December 31, 2013 No. Let's not create some artificial, arbitrary bullshit to get people attached to their characters.
deevote 21 Posted December 31, 2013 This would encourage people to stay away from high populated servers if the objective is to minimize contact with other players, right?
thewolfpack 1 Posted December 31, 2013 This would encourage people to stay away from high populated servers if the objective is to minimize contact with other players, right?True. How to improve it?
Nanoha 37 Posted December 31, 2013 I'd like to see a system of character development over gear development.
HERCULESJON (DayZ) 2 Posted December 31, 2013 Rocket already said that there would not be any RPG elements like this in DayZ.

AP_Norris 1018 Posted December 31, 2013 I thought this thread was about the rpg7 and was about to agree.Haha, Anti Armour guy in your dayZ squad.Maybe one day we will see cars that can get pretty well armoured and .50 and RPG is actually needed as a counter for people driving around with run flats and a inch of steel over their engine block, some lighter armour everywhere else, but also wearing bullet proof vests and a ballistic helmet. With a squad of 3 inside shooting anything on sight with full auto guns. svenbreakfast 231 Posted December 31, 2013 I could see some sort of "practice makes perfect" system, totally invisible, which made it so that you got slightly faster or more effective at various tasks. Transfusions for example, could be a task that takes a long time the first time you do it, but you gradually become better at it. There could be greater risks for medical procedures until you've had some experience at it, or fixing vehicles could be a process you need to work at a bit the first few times. That said your DayZ character is an extension of you. Rather than say " Ding! You gain a point to Stealth" you realize that running along a treeline is better than skipping across an open field. Or that sometimes the smart thing to do is leave the zombies alive and lull others into a false sense of security. Every time you respawn you level up because hopefully you're more careful not to be such a careless dumbass the next time. If I ever had to "spec" my DayZ character or the game played some little sound when I gained a new "point" I think I'd shoot my computer and take up knitting.
IcyBlade 48 Posted December 31, 2013 Arbitrary restrictions to force people to to conform to behaviors that you deem correct. So no not a fan. What was great about the mod and will continue to be with the SA is that it was in part a social experiment to see how people behave in certain scenarios. As the game develops, players will adapt to alterations so for instance the addition of numerous, smart and aggressive zombies that I believe are intended will cause a massive change in player behavior. So adding restrictions on current behavior is pointless as it will change anyway.
