badman85@gmail.com 14 Posted December 31, 2013 i had taken a prolonged break between the mod & SA and dont seem to remember the server restarts . at least at the current frequency . are restarts to be a permanent part of the game as they stand now ?
blurhitz 244 Posted December 31, 2013 As far as I know they're restarting the server in order to restart loot too (because there is no loot respawning currently). So, after they fix loot respawning, I don't think servers will keep restarting every 4 hours.
DropBearChick 1217 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Yes......................"............And it's meant to spawn loot on restart to prevent loot cycling Edited December 31, 2013 by spartan54820
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted December 31, 2013 Restarts will be required, but hopefully after they fix respawns it'll be say every 12-24 hours (or even longer) instead of the roughly 4 hours it is now.
AshleyP 121 Posted December 31, 2013 It's a shame DayZ doesn't have the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mythology - the developers could make server restarts literally part of the game by calling them psychic blow-outs, or something.

Yeah but it's not part of STALKER. I don't think any amount of lore in the DayZ universe can explain it. :P And in STALKER it only applies to anomalies IIRC.________ I imagine they'll stay as they are for a long time and time between restarts will increase later on. I don't see the issue though, 4 hours is a good time. It's not like you lose your gear and have to start over.
ninjacalypse 551 Posted December 31, 2013 i had taken a prolonged break between the mod & SA and dont seem to remember the server restarts . at least at the current frequency . are restarts to be a permanent part of the game as they stand now ? Currently, server operators are using periodic restarts due to current bugs with loot not respawning. Things like tents and camps aren't implemented yet but in the DayZ mod, server restarts wouldn't effect tent contents. Hall has also talked about personal underground bunker/bases as well. These would probably be a persistent feature for normal server restarts.
gamer222 86 Posted December 31, 2013 Restarts are part of the game cuz there is no zombie animal loot respawns
semipr0 402 Posted December 31, 2013 Restarts are part of the game because Arma server processes chew through memory like LOL. I miss the good old days when you only restarted a game server because you needed to update it or there was some kind of unforseen technical issue. These days server restarts are a necessity because the unforseen technical issue is the goddamn software the server is running. This isn't just isolated to the Arma engine games though its pretty common in most next gen FPS titles as well. Its just slightly more problematic for the DayZ experience because it interrupts persistance and thus screws with immersion.
