finding an axe

Recommended Posts

been playing for a few days now. absolutely loving it. very easy to lose a good few hours without realising it.

like most i have died a lot. mostly cos i really struggle to find a decent melee weapon. i have to skip alot of houses etc because there are zombies everywhere i go! i get a a little loot then have to run!

i did get a fire axe once. i stumbled accross it after a few hours of running from zombies. it was really cool to be able to take a few out rather than just running and was a massive help. any tips on finding an axe or other decent melee weapon? are there places where they are more likely to be? does wearing a motorbike helmet help me to be unrecognised by zombies?

im just about to respawn due to a player interaction gone bad. i know im gunna miss that fire axe.

hope i can find another asap. tia

dayzdb has a map of the game. if you find Balota it has stuff there by the air strip there is a prison and stuff. Also there is M4 in the barracks Watch a video or two from Frankiein1080p on youtube.

search the little shacks, industrial and farm buildings and garages ( as you would in real life)...get a helmet ( same places) and craft some bandages using your t-shirt when spawning at the coast ( when you start bleeding and have to run there will be no time for it)

avoid the airfield at the coast !

Don''t avoid the airfield on the coast!!

If you're a freshspawn, you have nothing to loose! Loot all the barracks, and if you've found nothing or found a weapon with some mags, run like hell towards north!

You should check out the military base next to Vybor(?), if you're not fully geared yet.

Edit: There's a hill near this base. You have to secure this little hill, so you can proof, that there's no sniper around. Plus, you get a full overview of the area.

The fire axe is the best Axe in the game prooving a instakill for choping in the head and body. You should always aim for the head in any type of meele or shoot out

I don't know what kind of player you are...but you can get a lot more out of this game by playing it properly and not just rushing from one military base to the next....being mudered by CoD kids or kill a few fresh spawns yourself ...then do the same thing again and again and again....

Fire axe spawn very often on the first floor of prison building. For a splitting axe, look for farm and industrial building.

Axes and especialy fireaxes are my number one item at the beginning. There is just NO reason to not take it even if badly damaged.

OFC at times you have to leg it to avoid the unclean/undead but as soon as you find THE axe its time for revenge. ( keep in mind to circlestrafe them counterclockwise and hack away. )

Oh and to "avoid airfields at all cost"

I do that. If iam alone i go there at nighttimes. During the day might work but i get too attached to all my little bits and tibits. ^_^

In terms of zeds around towns whilst looting, I find it's best to try your luck and grab as much as possible from a few houses in one part of the town, then once you get the attention of the zed(s) you can run back the way you came and then loop back round. This leaves the zeds to lookout over the buildings you've already cleared for anyone following you.

Until I find an axe/baseball bat/wrench/crowbar I tend to avoid killing the zeds and just manipulate the AI like this. Less damage to yourself and a free pair of eyes on your six (I play solo so this is v helpful).

And yeah, I avoid Balota Airfield until I've got armed up from the North and want to come play with the pvp'ers - too many clans/groups of players/server hoppers for anyone soloing to have a chance at getting in and out in one piece imo.

Thanks that's some good info. I'm totally new to dayZ and I really don't know my way around. I'm playing solo and so far I have resisted the urge to use an 'out of game' map. I can't read Russian and I kind of like the fact I have no means of navigation yet. I have been to an airfield and a prison but only because I stumbled into them. I was shot at the airfield as a geared up player spawned pretty much on top of me. I already love this game. Now to go axe hunting ...
