azynkron (DayZ) 12 Posted December 30, 2013 This is not about more guns e t c, but it feels a bit fuzzy what we actually are testing.Clearly there are alot of bugs and alot of tweaking to be done which is ok since it's alpha, but I still can't quite grasp what we actually are benchmarking here?Is it a pure performance testing phase we are into? What do you want us to focus on in the feedback? I can live with that the game is limited since I signed up for it in this state, but atleast we need VIP slots on the servers. I don't care about passwords since our group isn't harvesting stuff anyway, but oneof the key points for paying for a server is that we atleast have guaranteed playtime for the group. We for one will not continue renting a DayZ server if we can't set this up. There's no point for usto dish out some 50 Euros so that OTHER people can play.

Jaygoon 240 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) So you want your 30 or 40 slot server with how many v.i.p. slots? Cos v.i.p slots mean you and your group can gear up with no threat, then go on other servers and kill all those who have a threat stoping them gear up. Its called cheating!!! So don't pay for the server join someone elses server and buy your own when more options become available as if you can't justify it at the moment there is no point to continue, then in time when you feel it's worth it then sign up for it :)

Captain Pronin 28 Posted December 30, 2013 It's all about server performance, stability and security right now. They are basicly testing how the server is handling a load of 50 players and how they can implement all the planned features without killing it.As a bonus they get enough bug reports to keep them buissy for the next months.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 30, 2013 Hello there Essentially you are testing EVERYTHING!. Your best bet is to make an account on the official bug tracker and see what has been reported and what status things are at. Bear in mind that obvious issues will have already been spotted by keen eyes and the reproducibility of a bug is important too. Thats if you really want to help out. You can just play if you like, youve helped out a bit by opting in to purchasing the Alpha (and saved some money in the long run). Rgds LoK
deebz1234 243 Posted December 30, 2013 where did the 80 and 120 person servers go? i say lets break this shit, start bringing the server pops up.

Its called cheating!!!No, VIP slots means they have reserved slots in their own server. So they dont have the problem if its full of not being able to play on their own. Its still open to public, as stated aswell in the comment that they didnt want a password. SO HOW THE FUCK IS THIS CHEATING?????????????
roanlamond@gmail.com 67 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) Do anything outside of the box. Find the limits of the map and see if you can go beyond that maybe? Try to find points in a server where you fall through the world. Glitch in buildings, some weird algorithm that turns your beans into one shot kills. Basicly do things you wouldn't think to do to break the game. I get you want room in your own server but you can do all of any testing in any server. ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted December 30, 2013 Everything. You're testing each and every thing in the game. This is not just about bug fixing and performance, either. Despite the (ridiculous) mantra on these forums and elsewhere, we're also testing the quality of the game's features. The entire point of having an open Alpha with this many players is that the team can get instant feedback, both in the forum of internet chatter but also and more importantly by examining metrics and data they collect after implementing new features or changes. Bakercompany86 347 Posted December 30, 2013 There is a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't see in addition to our bug report. Bug reporting helps make the devs aware of things they might not find on their own, as obviously they don't have 600,000 employees to play the everliving hell out of DayZ. What's most likely also going on, is data collection. Heat maps, statistics, many things are recorded and give the devs information they need to help adjust the game. When they do these things, they see where players go, what they loot and when, patterns. All kinds of things that help them fine tune the game.
liquidje 38 Posted December 30, 2013 If you think you pay for a server so you have VIP spots, then at this moment you do not understand why anyone should host. You rent the server for helping development and because you want to contribute to it. Nowhere were VIP spots promised from the get-go.
