The M4 sound is very bad, along with the ballistics

Also any cod/cs/bf people please stay out of this topic , aka people who never operated a real weapon before. I don't care for your fake opinion, thanks.

 

Just got standalone, tried the m4 for a few hours, here's my gripes, hopefully Dean will fix this:


Sound is too muffled compared to Arma/Dayzero, there's no impact what so ever, like a .223 should sound like (this is after a game based on semi-realism

Ballistics are completly off the charts, but this is something to be expected I pressume? Sometimes it feels like the sights should be aligned more to the left vs top right.

 

Bullet drops are NOT aligned vs real life stats.

General feeling of the weapon feels bad in my opinion.

Now. The sounds of the weapons are muffled as you say, I hope they'll be louder in the future. As for the accuracy of the M4: It is on the bugtracker atm, and is considered a bug, that the dispersion is at 0.1 when in arma it is 0.001. This makes rounds hit basically at random. 

 

Hopefully it will get fixed soon, although there is more important stuff to be done first.

 

Other than that, I like the weapon, not that I have much knowledge on firearms.

Seriously, this is the only reasonable answer, regarding the announced sound-overhaul for the future. Hope, they've allready archived some nice weapon - and hit - sounds.

It's been stated in another post I believe, that most sounds and animations are placeholders for the moment.  There's not even sounds for doors opening and closing, so I would assume this is something they will be taking care of in the future. Tho I I get the feeling adjusting of and implementing new sounds will be a higher priority considering that the sound of the gun being more accurate does not hinder gameplay, at least for the most part from what I can figure out. You can recognize it's a gun shot and that it is different than the mosin and pistol, so as of right now probably not a high priority as much as an aesthetic feature for more accurate sounds.  I also believe I read they just hired an audio guy that worked on the mod ( never played the mod, just followed it so could be wrong that he worked on the mod or a spin off mod of dayz) 

 

Though, it's not like I'm going to tell you and others not to report/comment on these things, because that's the point of us testing and playing the alpha, to report/comment on this stuff.  Thanks for your input.

Lay Prone, deploy bi-pod, look down ACOG.. Good up to about ~250 meters.. Any further and you're lucky to hit 1 out of 3.

Rocket and the rest of the team has said numerous times that the sounds aren't anywhere close to being final. In Dean's words "audio is the easy part". They want to nail down the mechanics first during the alpha.

This is very apparent when your breathing/movement noises are replaced by a partial zombie screech.  I know this happens to me often.

 

And in that regard, the sound of me shitting myself is still the same....

Instead of simulating the actual hearing damage one inflicts on himself by firing the real rifle, perhaps we could have a few seconds of "ear ringing"...

That....actually sounds like a fantastic idea. Fire a military grade weapon like the m4 or one of the super snipers and your hearing is jacked for a few minutes thus reducing your awareness of things around you. Of topic I know but I liked this idea.

Why should it be just military grade weapons? You really wanna use earplugs if you are shooting with pretty much any weapon. I think ArmA II:OA ACE did it pretty well, so maybe we just need to find earplugs :)

I don't think they redid the m4 sounds, they hired their sound guy after making the m4. He worked on the mosin and the mosin sounds good.

Well real gun sounds are deafeningly loud, so we can't really go this loud (i accidentally lifted my ear protection as someone fired an M4 and i couldn't hear a thing for a minute)

Having fired around two thousand rounds with Finnish AK-clone in the army. I think you should wear hearing protection while shooting military grade guns or you would lose some of your hearing.

Why is it everytime someone suggests real sound over subsonic this argument get's brought up?

I'm not obviously talking about having a sound that inflicts damage to your ear drums.

But you can in fact simulate sound that AT LEAST sounds like the real counterpart.

Look at movies like Blackhawk down vs HEAT, one of them is OVER THE TOP fake, take a guess which one. A weapon is VERY loud in real life. 

But that's not what this thread is about... I want a weapon that in 99% sounds like the real-life counter-part, see Arma, see arma 2 ace, see dayzero, see stalker with mods.. shall I go on?

 

Having fired around two thousand rounds with Finnish AK-clone in the army. I think you should wear hearing protection while shooting military grade guns or you would lose some of your hearing.

 
 
Congrats? I fail to see what this have to do with my thread?

I want a sound that's 99% close to the real one, i'm not talking about damaging your ears..... seriously guys is this the type of level were on now, where one has to explain himself on every god damn detail?

 
What if someone suggests a frag-grenade to be more real-life-like, do you think he means he want's you to use a real grenade closeby to your pc in case you die in the game?

i wish weapons could make sounds like in arma III, atm m4 sounds like rubbish, it's not hard to rent an m4 and record few sounds and implement them in to game, after all over 600k alpha games have been bought so far, money should not be issue.

Exactly.

Hell lurk 1.2 on stalker, a small group of fans used REAL Weapons to record the actual audio.

to me it only makes game better cause i have fired some assault rifles and heavy machine guns, i know how they should sound, many people here have not heard or used real gun so they do not know and therefore they can not complain, cause they have no experience with guns. as for ballistics, i do not know, i have not used m4 much in game.

I suspect they reduced base accuracy on purpose. In the mod an m16 with ACOG was a godly weapon, now you start with crap accuracy and must collect all the pristine parts to make it into a mid-range weapon.
