Farming Suggestions/Possible Implementations

    • Basic
    • Basic, but with some advanced aspects
    • Complex

This Topic is just about somethings I've been thinking about when it comes to farming and these ideas/examples of what should be done.

 

What if there was a way to grow food? even live off the land? adding something like this would add so many aspects to Dayz that many people don't realize.

 

Ex: You plant some potato seeds and after there fully grown, you harvest them but, some are rotten potatoes.

      You could take the rotten potatoes and put them in some sort of a compost bin for fertilizer.

      Then you use the fertilizer for making plants grow faster and for greater harvests.

 

You could take the things you grow and use them for some sort of cooking by using other things found throughout Chernarus.

 

Ex: Use the potatoes in a frying pan with maybe some kind of meat to make some kinda soup.

 

These are just some ideas that could easily be expanded on so add your own ideas below. I would love to hear them!   :D

 

(Edited) If over 20 people are interested, I will go more in depth about some more ideas.

We should be able to farm corn and shit, mine ore to make weapons and make a house out of cobble stone then we can make awsome dimond weapons and fight ENDOmens.

Farming system is always nice, but not in a real-time game. You know that it takes  2 weeks to 3 months to grow a plant ?

shart the bed hes got a point .. & only feasible with some sort home / base system . not a prob in your own personal underground bunker ! 

even accelerated farming time of like 72 hours is pushing it , less the concept is to be able to grow anywhere in "any" of the already available fields ? 

plant your stuff & come back in a week to check up on it .

It doesn't have to be in real time but, they should implement something with base building down the road with farming to some extent. I don't know exactly how farming could/would be able to be implemented but it would be a nice addition to Dayz in its own way. It would have to be tweaked a lot but, I feel it would allow people to come together to work together to survive together. It would make it easier if you had a bigger group. Again, everyone will have there own opinion on how they think this should or shouldn't be implemented.

you know a certain percentage of players will try & destroy anything you build , & im not talking about ur thread ! its the Govna syndrome . 

im sure somewhere down the line there will be some sort of farming mechanic . your just trying to gauge the complexity of it  . so flesh out your ideas in a game flow frame of mind & articulate the risk vs. reward .

I don't think a farming system is practical, but I am definitely not opposed to it. One of the aspects that they hope to implement from what I can understand is clearing a city of zombies, so on server restarts servers don't spawn zombies within those borders, so perhaps you can cordon off an area to farm.

 

You just know some dickless douchebag is just going to stomp your tomatoes into the earth, though...

There are many vegetables that are ready for harvest within 1-2 months. Is there a uniform time within the game relative to real time? Or do servers set how long day/night are?

If we ever get any sort of persistence on servers between restarts I don't see the harm in adding basic farming, in fact I've kinda' fancied it for a long time. It would be neat to be able to plant potatoes or something in some relatively hidden area and come back to harvest them, not to mention the possibility of players defending an area of land or a village because it's got stuff growing in it.

We should be able to farm, but it should be easy... With a few complex aspects to help growth... You know, plant a crop: Basic

 

Plant a crop, then create fertaliser, and fertalise it: boosts growth! Complex

Nicely said. Not sure how the persistence will work for buildings, but if it is very server intensive, they could make farming last 5-6 hrs. I know that sounds too short, but there is always a line that needs to be addressed between realism and what a game can simulate.

Adding anything like this is always good. More options and things for players to do is a good thing and being as we're going to survive, what the fuck does anyone think they're going to do in an apocalypse? The canned food will run out and people will grow food like we've been doing for 10,000 years.

 

However I don't want some knob to end up planting corn on every available plot of land or rearing 10,000 heads of cattle. There has to be limits on what the players can do.
