At this point in the development cycle, I'd rather they focus on big patches/updates as opposed to putting out a whole bunch of mini-patches addressing an issue here or there which doesn't really make much sense.  I'm not expecting a new patch every week either.

Actually, they're on two week break because of the holidays man aha. Although they do big patches and do hotfixes and mini patches. They are fairly fast so I expect this game to get good quick. I think there has been at least 3 patches since release? The last one being on the 20th.

Hope he makes a fortune, he deserves it for making the best game in many a year :)

Had my character for 2 days and got tons gear, having to cross a big field to the nw airfield and im shitting my pants.

No other game will make you feel that way ;)

Not so keen on the idea of weekly patches lol why character wipes and i feel many of the patches will require this as many people carrying items etc that have changed so we will be starting a fresh.

I would like a prior warning of a patch doing a wipe so instead of playing safe with my characters i can go hey patch tomorrow clean slate and by this then go time to head back south and join the safari shooting down there and havee some fun squeezing of a few hundred rounds on the m4 (or much less if im shot sooner lol ).

I know dayz started as a mod on the arma2 engine but I was just wondering, with dayz:sa selling almost 600k copies to date in alpha, is the arma2 engine the best possible home for a standalone version of this game?

I hope this guy and the company behind him made TONS OF MONEY.

At the end of 2014 we will have one of the best "first person shooter", "survival game", "Hardcore mode" ever.

I'm extremely happy that the game is selling well.  This means people are excited for the game, and that the development is being funded well.  I have complete faith in these guys to patch the game and continue to push it towards excellence.  Even in this stage, the game is so fun.

They took a break for the holidays, which I wouldn't want them to miss out on time with their families.  They'll be back at it soon enough.

Because everyone knows that the Lead Game designer gets 100% of the profit from the game.

600,720 x 30 = $18,021,600. I'd say they're pretty fucking rich at this point. Time to hire a couple more devs and speed things up.

They deserve the money they get. But I feel they should invest in paying some new people to help streamline the process of the development map and bringing in new maps as well as experienced programmers, animators, modelers, etc to get these bug fixes and progress levels far further down the road. Of course holidays count as down time though.

They already hired a whole new team back in September/October, when they moved into their offices in Prague. More people does not necessarily mean faster development.

The engine for DayZ SA is a rebuilt engine that uses parts of the Operation Arrowhead engine, some code from the Arma 3 engine as well as it's own code. It's not the Arma 2 engine and it's not the Arma 3 engine.

In Rockets words, they wanted to build the engine from the ground up.  I'm sure they salvaged many pieces of the old engines.  But from what I understand this beast is their own creation.
